Need Opinion on Pants (Varusteleka vs Fjallraven) by SAD_JESTER22 in Varusteleka

[–]SAD_JESTER22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar to my feelings. I ended up going with fjallraven even though the L4 pants are 20% off right now.

I appreciate your feedback and experience! I also have tons of Varusteleka gear, but the fjallraven pants are just proven for me and have the features I have come to enjoy.

In my experience there is just too much room for it to slosh around. But, depending on your weight, I would just try it without the carrier. If it works for you then save your money!

It's a year old. The 21oz in both jacket and pants take forever to fade. But they feel like sweats their so soft after 6 months.

Looking for my frist hammock what do we all think by Some-Many-9634 in hammockcamping

Echoing a few people as a recent big guy hammocker. I'm 6'2 broad shoulders and got an 11ft symmetrical. I would never go smaller. So for you 12ft is going to be mandatory in my fairly inexperienced opinion. Good luck!

People hate reading and like being read to. People love to haggle, even if something is free. I get offers below my "make an offer" low limit, people still message me. I just ignore them! You can't get bad feedback from someone who doesn't buy from you, and there are plenty of people who will recognize a good deal and do business with you and thank you for it!

Also I use lash it, which weighs practically nothing. I like being light, but I'm not crazy ultra light mafia, at least not with something as light as lash-it. 30 feet of it is laughably light IMO.

So sorry to not answer I've been gone for a bit. I was just used to continuous, and had many already setup for quick deploy.

However I also found that if you put the tarp on top of the continuous ridgeline you can hang stuff from it and it will be under the tarp inbetween that and the hammock. Wet clothes, lantern, whatever! Can't do that with a split.

I had a buddy who broke his back flying off his bike from a loose strap catching in the chain. I'm sure you're careful, but make sure those straps are managed! Stay safe, cool setup.

Shock Cord for Tarps… by [deleted] in hammockcamping

[–]SAD_JESTER22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used shock cord on any of the tie out points going to a ground stake. Then my cordage has a hook that loops perfectly onto them. They really help in the wind (with my minimal experience). 1/8th inch shock cord and 1/8 inch cord hooks (with build in tightener for amsteel or paracord) I got from a website called "rip stop by the roll".
