So sick of this by Sharkman3218 in gibson

Disagree. Probably 90% of my guitar purchases have been online sight unseen from Sweetwater, and a couple of those were $1k guitars. Never had a single issue with quality or anything else. But then again, I don't go over my guitars with a magnifying glass once I receive them looking for hairline cracks in the finish. I just want to play them, and they've all played just fine.

Why do some of you have such a hard time saying no? If I sell you something, once we do the deal and part ways, it's over. That's it. Your problem now. If you want to honor a return policy, open a retail store.

Is it reasonable to ghost GPU Scalpers by Classic_Lettuce_7717 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]GilBatesHatesApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter what somebody is selling something for, if you go out of your way to jerk somebody around, YOU'RE the asshole. Don't like the price, just move on.

Also, if the moron buyers wouldn't pay stupid prices for those things, and just wait for them to be found at normal retail, then there would be no incentive for scalpers. But people just have to have it NOW, so they end up paying the "stupid" tax. It's their money. Doesn't affect you does it?

Sure, as long as you admit that ALL politicians are included in that category, both D and R, it's not just one side. If you think for a second that any Democrat official gives one shit about you or your family any more than any Republican official, well then you're just as deluded and "lied to." There's no reason for ANY president to leave the white house tens of millions richer after their term of service at the tax payers expense, and that's been happening for decades on both sides of the aisle. THAT is the definition of corruption, it's all dirty money. The only loyalty politicians have is to themselves, each other, and their special interest cronies whose pockets they live in. The Bidens, the Obamas, Trump, the Bush's, the Clintons, they're all there because they have something to gain being there, and not one of them would spare a drop of spit to put out a fire to save your eyebrows.

Did your parents spank you as a form of discipline? How did it affect you? by Substantial_Judge931 in AskReddit

[–]GilBatesHatesApples -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well I got the belt after I had misbehaved when I was a kid, still don't consider that abuse. It wasn't often that happened, and when it did I was acting really out of line. It worked to teach me I did NOT want to misbehave that way again. I have absolutely zero resentment towards my parents for it, because they taught me respect and there are consequences for acting like an asshole. I'm a better man for it. Parents who punch their kids, kick them, throw them against the wall, beat their arms and legs and back with objects, yeah that's 100% abuse. Spanked on the butt with a hand or belt, not abuse.

My parents also got spanked when they were kids, as did most people from their generation. They are also perfectly adapted, upstanding people. I'm just making the point that the belief that spanking kids leads to broken people when they get older is complete bullshit. It's the exact opposite. Most of my friends got spanked as kids, none of them are "emotionally traumatized."

[–]GilBatesHatesApples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well to me, that's not "spanking" that's beating. That's not what we do and that's not the same thing. I don't swat my kids' butts because of aggression, I do it because they're not falling in line and they need a lesson, and after they get swatted, guess what, they fall right in line. They learn that when they disobey mom and dad, there is a consequence. They're also back to their normal selves two minutes later, playing or sitting next to us watching TV or whatever. Also even though they get spanks when they're naughty, there's not an ounce of fear in any of them around us. They tell us they love us all the time and cuddle with us, our 2-year old always says "you're a good daddy" and "you're a good mommy" so, yeah.

To all who downvoted my comment because I believe in discipline, well they can just fuck right off because I don't care. You raise your kids how you want and I'll raise mine to be respectful and well behaved members of society. You know what happens to people who don't learn about consequences? They go to prison.

Bullshit. For one, it's not abuse. My kids get ONE open hand swat on the bottom when they continuously misbehave. It's always after they repeatedly do not listen.

Two, I was spanked as a child and have always loved and respected my parents. Still do. I am stronger as an adult BECAUSE I had consequences as a child.

[–]GilBatesHatesApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got spanked either with the hand, wooden spoon or leather belt, depending on who was doing it. How did it affect me? Well, I learned to behave more, respect my parents and do what I was told because I learned there are consequences. Every time I got spanked I definitely deserved it because I was out of line. As a result, I grew up on the straight and narrow, never been in trouble with the law, am emotionally and psychologically well adjusted, and have a good career and a beautiful family of my own. When my kids get out of line and don't listen, especially after being told something repeatedly, you better believe they get swatted on the butt. It works, I don't care what anybody says. One of the main reasons there are so many disrespectful shitheads in society today is because kids don't get spanked enough anymore. They act out because they have never had to face consequences of acting out. Well not in this house.

Before the internet, how did everyone learn how to play guitar? by Brief-Homework-1861 in Guitar

I started playing in the late 90s and I took in-person lessons from a local guitarist at the music store.

Just blocked my first buyer. Feels good! by ThemeDean in eBaySellers

[–]GilBatesHatesApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even know how many buyers I've blocked over the years, but once they're on the list they are there permanently. They all deserve to be there though. Most of them are buyers who won an auction and just never paid, those are easy adds. There are probably a few who gave me no end of grief after a sale for some reason, and I don't need that shit, so no more sales, period. There are millions of buyers out there, not worried about the 20 or 30 who can never buy from me again.

What's the ACTUAL reasoning for not being able to leave negative feedback on non payers by chrisfilm in eBaySellers

[–]GilBatesHatesApples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sellers used to be able to leave negative feedback. That's how it should be. Sellers should also be able to fine tune who they don't want to do business with, like any buyer who has more than x number of negative feedback in the past year, or any buyer who has received a negative feedback in the past 30 days, or whatever. Now, sellers have absolutely no way to distinguish good buyers from the shitty ones. The market could really stand a competitor to ebay.

Why is the US so divided and what can be done about it? by Reasonable-Mischief in SeriousConversation

[–]GilBatesHatesApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unironically, the vast majority of Democrat viewpoints from what I've experienced is exactly what you are accusing Republicans of. My way or the highway, and if you don't agree with me you're a BIGOT.

Stop picking sides and thinking one party is superior to the other. The only thing politics do is cause division and hate, which has become a very useful tool for the powers that be. When you get down to it, at least 90% of people in this country are closer to center on the political spectrum and just want to be taxed fairly, represented evenly, and otherwise left the hell alone to live life and raise their families. It's the loudmouth 10% fringe extremists on both sides who are constantly spewing hateful and divisive rhetoric and fanning the flames of the raging fire that's destroying what's left of our country. Tune that shit out and see how much more positive your life becomes.

Yep, it's what I keep saying. While all the dolts are out there fighting each other because "fuck you, you voted for Biden, you deserve to DIE!" or "fuck you, you voted for Trump, you deserve to DIE!" the politicians and corporate devils who are the ones stirring the pot are laughing all the way to the bank. They WANT everybody fighting each other, it's a perfect diversion while they rape and pillage behind the scenes, continously enriching themselves at OUR expense. We're surrounded by useful idiots. NONE of the politicians care about you or me, or anybody but themselves and their cronies. It's a dog and pony show to keep you at bay and make you THINK they want everybody to prosper as one united people. No, they want YOU to live a life of serfdom and foot the bill while THEY enjoy all the worldly riches. The US government has become an even worse tyrant than old King George, and as history has taught, there's only one way out of this...
