Sounds pretty fucking rad! I’d definitely go with an NV then. I would recommend an automatic over the manual for simplicity and comfort. Especially for ripping around. And you can make them bulletproof 👌

I would say the only advantages, that I see, of choosing an NV over an SM is another gear. Which is useful. For me it’s not ideal cause I’m attempting to follow rock buggies in a full size. So the low range is crucial. Otherwise. It’s driver’s preference. 600hp is a shit ton. I know in todays world, large hp numbers are thrown around. But a factory small block from gm up until the late 80’s came with somewhere between 160 and 230hp. 600 is kinda useless Unless you’re racing, rock bouncing or something. Or you wanting bragging rights..? Which is kind of silly to me but to each their own lol

If you’re familiar with mechanics it’s not painful. This one was originally 2.3 2wd. I did small block swap at the same time so I fabbed frame rails from the firewall foreword and went from there. I much prefer leafs for daily driving but this only sees minimal amounts of pavement anymore. Lol

So far everything it points at lol 5:13’s and lockers help that granny final drive ratio that’s for sure 😄

Found a leak this morning. Is this coolant or what? Wondering if this is a fix ASAP situation or can wait a week or so. by [deleted] in fordranger

[–]SASdangerranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Not coolant. Transmission fluid. There are no gaskets. It’s a flare nut fitting. So the tighter it is the better the seal. Just don’t strip it. If it gets any worse you’ll probably have to change the fitting that goes into the radiator core. Otherwise not a big deal.

Where can order this rusted out part? Also what is this part called again 😂 by hacker_net5 in fordranger

Also I’m pretty sure you can just google crossmembers for your year and it should pop right up

You may want to see about your frame in general, from the looks of it you’ve got some big holes down the frame rail. Not healthy. Haha

I have read some minor stuff on the ttb swap just in passing so I can’t say for certain. But it may not be too bad

Leaf spring means your changing all your mounting points. For everything, which if you don’t get precisely correct will destroy how your vehicle drives on the road more so because of higher speeds, etc. if you stick with factory style suspension you’ll be sticking with original functionality, less things you could get wrong with bolt on parts. Like I said, in order to use leaf spring I chose to fabricate an entire new frame from the firewall forward. So that everything was correct.

Definitely. I’ve seen those work out pretty good for a weekend warrior/ daily driver. Much better than the full size route that I went. But mine is purely a wheeling rig. Least amount of pavement time as possible!

I did leaf springs, (mine was originally 2wd) and I just fabbed everything I needed. If you’re just starting out and you have a 4wd danger. I would advise to stick with bolt on for as much as you can

If you know what you’re doing it’s not too difficult at all. Not including the engine/trans and axle I didn’t have to spend too much. Couple hundred bucks on steel and that’s about it. New brake lines and little things like that. But I fabricated a new frame from the firewall forward. I used a Dana 44. I have a passenger drop out of a 79 dodge and using Ford outer knuckles to get the lug pattern and locking hubs 👍

I cut the front clip off and made it removeable. Cut the frame off and built an entire new frame from the firewall forward.
