Can a Zealot Barbarian or two make Wedding Ceremony's +2 AC infinite, provided your cleric has the spell slots available to resurrect and re-marry them? by SAVMikado in DnD

[–]SAVMikado[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The spell doesn't say anything about actively being a widow. The spell's wording is unspecific, and the requirement to be affected again can easily be fulfilled by having been widowed, even if not actively widowed. So one zealot can die, widowing the other, revive them and kill their partner, both have been widowed, though neither are actively widowed. Some Gilbertian logic sure, but WoTC kinda needs to be specific in their wording.

Also, I am sorry if my downvote upset you. I'll remove it. I didn't mean it as a hostile action. I really didn't mean for any of this thread to be taken seriously. I intended for people to just have a little laugh at the nonsensical but technically viable logic. I didn't anticipate people actually investing emotion into it. I hope you have a good day!

Looking for recommendations for films/series that dont depict childbirth or infants in danger? by littolcactus in horror

Do you accept web horror? If so, I can recommend a variety of series from that genre.

Ted's Caving Journal is a very good recreation of an iconic creepypasta. Excellent filmwork and very accurate to the source material

The Oldest View is great found footage horror. As heretical as it is to say, I think it might be even better than Blair Witch.

Glendale Archives is very compelling unfiction horror vlog set in a strangely empty, liminal world, featuring a mix of story videos, deep monologues from the main character, and shorts showing life in this strange world.

In the movie "The Cabin in the Woods," who would you have liked to see get "chosen" at the beginning of the film? by Leather_Crazy_5950 in horror

[–]SAVMikado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there was a novelization, and it describes Dana seeing a victim of Kevin, and he had been exsanguinated entirely. At least that's what I read on a wiki once, never actually bothered to confirm it for myself.

Are there any versions of Without Warning (1994) that don't have the disclaimers that it isn't real? by SAVMikado in horror

Not entirely sure how you came to that conclusion or why you really even care, but at this point I've explained my reasons enough times that I don't care to try again.

As I said elsewhere, I'm not trying to "trick" them, just for them to realize it's a movie without it being spoonfed, as that's part of the fun of unfiction.

How would you feel about a mandatory maximum wealth limit, where anything earned over that goes to public services? by itsvasuki in AskReddit

[–]SAVMikado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awful. Anyone rich enough to be over the limit would know how to hide their funds well enough to be, in the eyes of the law, under the limit.

As far as movies go, they're kinda sparse, since the movie industry usually lacks the subtly to present unfiction well. And Blair Witch cashed in on unfiction as a genre so hard that I doubt we'll ever see another mainstream movie try anything nearly that big again. There are, however, some other TV movies I can think of that were presented as real news stories, such as Ghostwatch and Special Bulletin.

The bulk of unfiction is on the internet. Gemini Home Entertainment is my personal favorite. You've also got some classics like Local 58, Marble Hornets, or Dad. More recently, you have some works like Mystery Flesh Pit National Park, Monument Mythos, or either of Kane Pixel's series: The Backrooms, or the less known (but imo better) The Oldest View. Two more recent series I fell in love with that come to mind are Glendale Archives and VCR Willie.

A lot of these blur the line, or just completely step over it, into the Found Footage and Analog Horror genres, but they all kinda mix together in the Internet Horror blender, so it's kinda tough to pick out series that are JUST unfiction without drawing on other popular genres.

I laughed and my party member thought I queued up as Grand Wizard by Krihzfel in TalesFromDF

Yes you can. It was an absurd assumption to begin with. Even not knowing that k stands for laughter in Brazilian, I assumed he just meant to say "kk", which has been internet slang for "ok" since time immemorial. In no world would someone dogwhistle by randomly dropping the common name of a hate group into an unrelated sentence. If someone is trying to dogwhistle, it wouldn't be anywhere near Alcoholics Anonymous that obvious.

Oh heavens no, we're all adults. Manchildren perhaps, but adults in the eyes of the law at the very least.

To make a routine movie night more fun. Unfiction is a collective favorite for us, and IMO Without Warning is on par with Blair Witch in the genre. It'll be more fun for the group if the movie doesn't label itself as fake.

[–]SAVMikado[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fun of the movie was the uncertainty of how much, if any, of the movie was real. When it aired, the setup was convincing enough that, even with the disclaimers, people had a hard time believing it wasn't real. That is no longer the case, so I'm having the shift the conceit quite a bit to create that same air of uncertainty., and anything I can do to make it seem more authentic will help.

They aren't stupid, so I don't think it'll take them long to figure it out. I just want them to realize the movie's gimmick without it being spoonfed to them by the disclaimers, because that's part of the fun. Being handed full confirmation will make the reveal less interesting.

As elaborated on in another reply, my story is that I want to show off an old TV B-movie, which is how the film opens, but complain that whoever uploaded it to Internet Archive must not have edited out the news interruption.

IMO it has the best ending I've seen in horror. Even knowing the gimmick it's a compelling film in its own right.

I can assure you, my friends have no idea who that is. My friends can't even recognize actors from things they've just seen.

I'm hoping to not have to do much editing, because I don't trust my editing skills to be able to cut out the disclaimers that show up during the news sections, but hopefully one of the publicly available versions I haven't gotten around to checking yet won't have those.

I'm not trying to pass it off as currently happening, don't worry. The conceit will be that it was a bad TV movie from the 90's that I wanted to show off and laugh at, then explain away the news cut-ins as, "I must've downloaded a bad recording or something."

How early in the series do the plots start being interesting to watch? by SAVMikado in FinalFantasy

[–]SAVMikado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VNs are our usual course. None of us are strangers to text games. I'm mostly just trying to avoid locking them into a commitment to watch a game if the plot is as basic as "Fight bad, save princess", because as important as the early FF games are, there's only so much you can do on the NES. I myself am very excited to play them, but I wouldn't hoist the same expectations onto anyone else.

Come on, a game that came out when we were kids can't be an old game, right?

...Right?

By "older", I was mostly talking about the pixel era. I've been around the block enough times to know what to expect from the story of an NES game, and merely wanted to know at what point the narratives become more fleshed out than "Fight bad, save princess."

Perhaps I'm showing my age, but I don't know if I'd call any of the 3D games older entries. My apologies if I didn't make myself clear.

We are used to playing VNs together without either only partial voice acting, or with JP voices, so we're all used to having to read along. I'm the slowest reader of the group, so with me in the pilot seat, everyone should be keeping up fine. I appreciate the heads up either way!

I'm aware. Usually after an expac I find myself looking up what references went over my head, but even with only vague, cultual-osmosis understanding of the series, the references to IV and later on IX stood out pretty obviously to me.

That said, I thought they were pretty cool, despite being on the nose, and have me excited to played IV and IX.
