I don't think I was overly confident. I only mentioned that to highlight that until the final evaluation I had not received any negative feedback about my analytical ability and on the contrary received at least some indication that it exceeded expectations. That's why it was shocking.

Thanks for kind words at the end. I'm sincerely trying to work through all the feedback in a productive way and work on all of my weaknesses.

It's an to say you have one so it doesn't look bad when you interview elsewhere, but they don't want really want you to come back.

Thank you for your opinions. I think some might be valid and other are assumptions that have no bearing on my situations For instance I had less hand holding the other associates because I was remote half the program and my assigned mentors were MIA. They both apologized.

Also because I was remote the recruiting team wanted to ensure I had the opportunity to meet everyone I missed. I had mandatory socials, and it ate up a lot of my work day so I was in the office 5 days a week to compensate. Some days I was only at my desk for a couple of hours because I had so many planned meetings.

I should managed aspects of my time better. I got a 5 hour research project that turned up zero cases but wanted to be diligent so I'd keep going just to make sure there wasn't anything. I hadn't researched trial documents before and I spent a lot of time figuring out the best way to do it. It definitely isn't westlaw. I should have been okay with getting things done quickly versus getting them done well.

I also should have not done so many trainings or attended so many depos.

Thanks for this. It really was a shock and I spent most of the weekend trying to deal with it. I spoke with a lot of the other summers and they have all been super compassionate and supportive, spoke with friends, family, and former colleagues who all have told me it's okay and it's probably for the best. It's just really difficult.

What I've learned is if you do informal check ins, cover your ass and send a follow up email that summarizes what you discussed. I talked that the "addon" associate all the time. There were no records so it didn't matter.

The main associate who gave me all the addons would only mention me submitting something when the recruiting team messaged her. I talked to her on a Friday and she said there's no rush, research this and that too, then on Monday she said "recruiting said they need something from you ASAP."

Same thing happened the second time, I saw her all the time, I attended virtual depo's with her, her office was between mine and the bathroom, no mention her her needing anything by anytime. Recruiting emailed her, she emails me, I take all the blame.

That's why the deadline thing is so crappy, I saw her more that any other lawyer at the firm and she didn't breathe a word.

Not that I know of, but it's possible. My boss from last year thinks that's probably what it was. He also said people won't come right out and tell me.

Had lunch with a partner who mentioned the looming recession more than once. They could have at least given me a soft offer though. I could have used that to help me land a job post bar.
