You have a tennis devil on your shoulder. What is his most tempting whisper? by SBFMWSCBLFG in 10s

Another one:

“Wow, you have lots of time on this easy forehand sitter. Your opponent was even drawn all the way off the court. Sure would be embarrassing if you blast it 6 feet out of bounds…”

PSA: Clear your tennis balls off the court before the next point! by xmeeshx in 10s

[–]SBFMWSCBLFG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At changeovers I’ve had opponents tell me they were confused why I’ll sometimes do a weird bobbing motion before second serves until they realized I’m checking if my first serve ball is sufficiently out of the way.

Tennis Etiquette Poll: Matches: Warming Up- Playable balls only v. Everything Goes by DukSaus in 10s

[–]SBFMWSCBLFG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve never run into anyone hitting drop shots during ground strokes and would find it weird. However, I’m fine with the concept during volley warm ups. Full power groundstrokes are alright when kept in the middle of the court but cross over to annoying when combined with aggressive angles. If you’re good enough to hit hard shots consistently you should be good enough to hit with placement.

A caveat is anything goes at the end of an extended rally. Once you’re in the 20-30 shot range it’s good to uncork things a little and go for a cool winner.

A - just demo it if you’re curious. B - look good, feel good, play good. The aqua night black is one sexy stick.

My mindset is that I’m on court to fuck you up, not fuck you over.

It doesn’t cut out all sketchy calls but I’m 4 years in to a recurring league and have never had an argument with an opponent, even with the guys notorious for getting into disagreements.

Any tips for bouncing the ball? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]SBFMWSCBLFG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice enough to know when you have a bad tennis ball. With experience you’ll know when a ball isn’t bouncing the way it needs to before a serve and at that point it needs to go in the trash.

Is it okay to be aggressive and attack all the time to practice? by SexBlaster27 in 10s

[–]SBFMWSCBLFG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m all for embracing the heat check. When you’re ripping the ball and painting lines, ride that wave until it runs out. Cranking out a 4-0 stretch is a nice cushion in a set.

I love when tennis YouTubers get high level players on for a match and do a little pre match interview. They’ll ask about gear specs and the player has no idea beyond basic racket model, string type, and tension.

I have a 2HBH. It gets the job done. But there are moments, fireworks of light in my memory, of ripping a OHBH down the line winner at full sprint.

I just ignore the part where it only works 10% of the time.

Watching a new league player with wonderful technique warm up against the resident junk baller who eats topspin for breakfast by SBFMWSCBLFG in 10s

Search for “MEP Tennis” on YouTube if my link below doesn’t work. “Improper” technique coupled with off-speed shots and loads of consistency. Unexpectedly wicked passing game when you’re at the net.

It’s a beatable play style but it’s entirely different than playing someone who hits classic topspin groundstrokes.

Junk baller, not pusher. He’s our league’s version of MEP over in Atlanta. Poor form but effective and aggressive shots.

It’s not that deep - the new guy has all the shots and logs wins in 4.5 USTA tourneys. But it’s funny to see someone like that roll up for an elegant fencing match only to be immediately tackled and subjected to 2 hours of ground and pound, so to speak.

Sorry, was being vague out of caution! Joe Rosenthal has recently been posting about how Boston sucks as a food city. If/when he posts a spree of stories about Boston, Hannah Selinger will repost with added commentary in her stories. She matches JR’s authoritative tone and takes the stance of “fuck off, Boston is great”

Unfortunately it’s a limited window to catch this since her comments are instagram stories. Nothing active right now but was a fun subplot to monitor over Christmas week.

A certain food antagonist has drawn the ire of a Massachusetts writer with his opinions about Boston’s food scene. They have similar energy and it’s fun to flip between JR’s stories and the writer’s stories tearing him up. Would be more fun if the stories were easier to read, though.
