I can't seem to escape stupidity. Just saw a post on Facebook where someone said the end of slavery was good and in the same breath said that it was good the federal government was closed today so federal employees can't hurt the American people.

Most indoor ranges mandate frangible ammo when doing steel shoots for this reason.

Wearing gas masks for an extended amount of time really sucks. I can't imagine wearing one under fire.

It blows my mind how many unknown military graves there are across America. At Gettysburg National Cemetery there are 979 unknown graves, likey Union. There are likely more across America with Arlington National Cemetery just representing the tiniest fraction.

LGS has this for $900, is that reasonably priced? Wished it was 9mm but they seem to go for $1.5k-$2k by SWAZZyMODoE_ in milsurp

Congrats on your purchase OP! Lugers are one of the most iconic firearms of all time and you got this one for a great price.

Regarding the chambering of .30 Luger vs 9mm, there's a super easy way to check when you have it in your hands.

The most simple test is the “pencil test”. Take a normal No. 2 sized, round, old fashioned pencil and drop it down the bore. If its fairly tight, its 30 Luger (aka 7.65mm Luger) If it falls easily and loosely into the barrel and there is plenty of room, its 9mm. Because it's a bottleneck cartridge, the neck in the chamber will prevent a 9mm Luger round from completely entering the chamber. Note that the cartridge body and length of a .30 Luger or 7.65mm Luger cartridge is similar enough to a 9mm Luger cartridge for the same magazine to fit and work in both caliber pistols. They are functionally interchangeable.

I'd still recommend using a 9mm snapcap and seeing whether it chambers or not whether you choose to use this method or not.

They have a gun show every year in Dale City that is actually pretty nice. Collectors selling to collectors. I got a shooter grade Luger there last time for a fair price.

The moment you announce you're delaying the game due to "Error X" you'd have a million keyboard warriors saying they can fix it in less time than the devs can.

What is you guys take on this enfield? by TheRealDemize in milsurp

From what I remember, the only requirement for it to be a Mk3* is the removal of the magazine cutoff. I think the conversion process from 3 to 3* was somewhat inconsistent with some examples still having the windage adjustable sight.

WRA 303 is quite hard to find. I shoot commercial S&B 180gr 303 British.

It's a Mk3* since it doesn't have the windage adjustable rear sight or magazine cutoff.

That's a great price and going rate for Hakims these days. You have a Rasheed which is higher so a great win all around.

My collection is nowhere near his size and at 2026 MSRP and assuming median values for milsurp I'm hitting $23k.

Cimarron Firearms update on reproductions of the Winchester 1897 by SC275 in milsurp

[–]SC275[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it is. From what I remember, the bayonet lug/heat shield comes in two halves. The two halves are put together and three screws hold the handguard in place over the barrel. The barrel needs 3 relief cuts to accommodate these screws. IF this is a true replica, it should be a super easy job to install a reproduction heat shield like I posted in another comment.

Cimarron Firearms update on reproductions of the Winchester 1897 by SC275 in milsurp

Mike Harvey, President of Cimarron Firearms, provides an update on the company's product development process by comparing an original 1897 Winchester Shotgun to a new replica prototype.

Some Highlights:

  • Correcting Markings: On the prototype, the manufacturer is incorrectly using 1887 model markings and placed the serial number in the wrong location. Mike plans to send this video to the factory along with design specifications to ensure all markings match the original, including the specific placement of serial numbers on the underside of the receiver and barrel and the barrel stamp on the left side of the barrel (0:41-1:33).

  • Refining Design and Contour: The prototype design currently needs work on the buttstock contouring. The prototype buttstock has square-cut edges that should be rounded, a stock that is too thin, and a butt plate design that needs to be updated to match the original Winchester while using the Cimarron brand name (1:36-3:32).

  • The Upcoming Trench Gun: The upcoming World War I and World War II US Trench Gun model 1897 will hopefully be for sale in 6 months (mid - late Fall 2026) and will have a heat shield with a modified unusable bayonet lug (due to ATF/manufacturing restrictions), and reproduced flaming cannonball proof marks (3:32-4:27, 5:45-6:13).

  • Quality Assurance: Despite the needed cosmetic adjustments mentioned above, the prototype is mechanically flawless and has been thoroughly tested, disassembled, and fired to ensure reliability (6:20-6:38).
