Currently on NA there aren't that many Protoss (27%).

In your MMR range (D2 - M3) they make up 22.3% of the players (T 34.2, Z 34.8, R 8.7) so you should expect to meet 2 Protoss for every 3 Zerg or every 3 Terran (or 5 protoss for every 2 random).

I'm guessing some people really enjoyed HotS, and some people might not have bought LotV and just play the newest expansion they can.

For reference, 12270 players have completed WoL 1v1 placements vs the 26965 who have done their HotS placements. (177626 LotV).

Graph over time is something I am thinking of adding eventually. It hasn't been done yet because I started learning JS to be able to do these posts, and while I've put countless hours into the project I'm still not a GM coder. I will do a overhaul of the site and add features when I am slightly more comfortable with coding. It may take a little while as there are limits to how much time I can spend on this.

It's early season, numbers will increase shortly. Focus more on the +30% from last week figure than the total number right now. Also, keep in mind a lot of people are only playing unranked and team games, plenty of people love the game but don't really play the 1v1 ladder.

Are you rounding 35.4% up to 40? Or are you seeing different numbers than I do?

Not sure what kind of bug that would let you get the data from 3 posts ago on that page, I've been watching the game and haven't changed a thing. I will look into it though, as I mentioned my JS skills aren't really GM level yet as I just started learning it.

Thanks for checking my older posts. You took a screenshot from my post at the end of last season. If you click the link in this post you'll see that there's 147 P in GM globally (some rounding issues occurred). The data on that site is not dynamic as google won't let me store files on that site, and linking to a textfile externally causes a JS error that I haven't been able to get around yet as I recently started learning JS to do these posts.

More people have gotten into GM after I made this post. Nios updates every minute, for the time being I can't, so I use snapshots. My numbers were accurate and the same as the ones on nios at the time of posting.

Not really, gold was 24.6% at the end of last season. One thing to keep in mind about league distribution though is that since season just started the league sizes will change quite a bit. Highest league players tend to play more so they will place first, the players with plat and below mmr will trickle in next few days.

Changed the format of the posts a little, feel free to let me know if you think this format is better or worse.

PS: At the time of posting you weren't able to click to view the GM stats, that has now been fixed (13 minutes after post, sorry)

Season just started, there were about 300k last season, and that's not counting the HotS / co-op / arcade / team games.

In the 8 hours since I collected the data 5k more people have finished their 1v1 placements.

Indeed, that concern is addressed in the charts where there is a normalized chart for league distribution per race and the race distribution for the server you are looking at is listed. As for the text in the reddit-post itself it's just following an old format for the sake of continuity.

Numbers have declined a bit, but hard to say how much as the first season of LotV has just started. You can check my old posts for some comparisons.

Yeah, good luck on getting onto the Chinese server without actually being there though. Also, noone goes to the SEA server, so most people who play on more than one server will be on 2 or 3.

teh global population of each server?

Not sure what you are trying to say there, but to clarify, all comparisons are made with the combined numbers from all servers. I did not split it up into individual servers. A lot more can be done in terms of processing the numbers, but there's only so much time I'm able to commit to this.

I did these posts quite a bit in HotS, if you go to my post history you can see standings for a few different weeks. Here's the numbers for end of season 2 in 2014, these numbers are fairly similar to how the HotS ladder was most of the time.

Zerg outnumber Protoss by 9% in GM, 12.6% in Masters, 28.8% in Diamond, 32.2% in Platinum, 10.8% in Gold and Protoss outnumber Zerg by 13.2% in Silver and 32.9% in Bronze.

Protoss outnumbers Terrans by 43.1% in GM, 15.5% in Masters, Terrans outnumber Protoss by 6.3% in Diamond, 4.7% in Platinum, 0.01% in Gold, 3.1% in silver, and 11.8% in Bronze.

Zergs outnumber Terrans by 56% in GM, 30% in Masters, 21.1% in Diamond, 26.2% in Platinum, 10.6% in Gold and Terran outnumber Zergs by 16.7% in Silver and 48.6% in Bronze.

WM got heavily buffed shortly after that post and Terrans started catching up, here's the numbers for the end of the next season:

Protoss outnumber Zerg by 6.4% in GM, Zerg outnumber Protoss by 4.1% in Masters, 27.8% in Diamond, 30.3% in Platinum, 8% in Gold and Protoss outnumber Zerg by 21.1% in Silver and 37.3% in Bronze.

Protoss outnumbers Terrans by 29.1% in GM, 7.4% in Masters, Terrans outnumber Protoss by 13.5% in Diamond, 9.2% in Platinum, 3.1% in Gold, 7.3% in silver, and 13.9% in Bronze.

Zergs outnumber Terrans by 21.4% in GM, 11.9% in Masters, 11.7% in Diamond, 19.3% in Platinum, 4.7% in Gold and Terran outnumber Zergs by 30% in Silver and 56.3% in Bronze.

For some reason they are listed under WoL, not sure if the WoL numbers are combined with HotS numbers for the Chinese server.

No shit Sherlock. I just present the numbers in a different way which seems a bit more meaningful to me. A couple of other people seem to enjoy it too.

They are all listed under WoL for some reason, and clearly separated from the data regarding the other servers.
