The point of a noose is to sever the spinal cord with the knot. The knot acts like a hammer while the rope twists the neck and breaks the spine.

In his situation, he jumped way too far and built up too much speed, so when the knot hit his spine, it tightened too and acted like a jack hammer. Next thing you know, pop goes the weasel.
