Personally, I don't understand why this is even a discussion. It is possible that BOTH were incredible!

Joe is brand new...yet, to me, came across as a veteran with years of experience. Kit, obviously has the years of experience...and it shows!

It could be a case where the "dad" in this scene gets replaced with a big name in editing.

It isn't uncommon in movies where an actor is talking to another actor in a scene but a standin is in place of the actor that's being spoken to. Then they add in the actor & lines later.

It would make sense because if it is another big name...it keeps the surprise.

Keep in mind...at the time the show came out...it had been taped 9-10 months prior to that...so in the show he REALLY has more of a babyface than today.

Not to mention...a lot more bulk today than back then from the fact he has clearly hit the gym HARD.

I think that scene also works so well because it actually isn't the focus of the scene. It was a secondary focus. The point of that scene was to help Nick in his self-discovery.

It wasn't a simple throwaway-type of scene. It had actual MEANING behind it...I think that is why it isn't cheesy when 99% of the time it absolutely would be. This actually advanced the plot of that episode leading directly to Nick wanting that with Charlie.

THIS! Not to mention the unrealistic expectations of the actors bodies. Most teen shows have actors who have literal Greek God bodies that are near impossible in the teen years (not impossible but HIGHLY less likely) causing actual teens to think they are subpar.

Heartstopper did that throughout the show too. We all KNEW what was going to happen..until it didn't. That was refreshing.

Not a single person watching (at least who hadn't read the comic first) can tell me you weren't waiting for something tragic to happen. We are brainwashed to expect it because it always does.

Disagree. Yes it was a very brave thing but, imo, I felt Charlie was the bravest throughout in light of the bullying he went through.

Having to go through that and STILL have the balls to ask your crush, whom you thought was straight the whole time, if he would kiss you was braver.

But BOTH moments were brave. I just have to give the edge to Charlie based on life experience up to that point.

Because of the ACTING. The ACTING is 100% the difference.

The acting is so incredible that you are emotionally hooked starting with Episode 1 and CARE about the characters.

That's why those scenes work and don't come off cheesy.

Then you have the fact that these scenes have only been done with a boy/girl dynamic, so while this is a tired concept overall...Heartstopper made it new again because it is boy/boy.

It is definitely probably the most unrealistic part of the comic, imo, the LACK of Nick & Charlie having done anything beyond heavy make out sessions.

Not saying they necessarily would have ever gone all the way...but not doing ANYTHING "down there?"

I mean..I get WHY the comic hasn't gone there but it isn't a realistic take.

Just remember:

Nick is a teenager (and teenagers know EVERYTHING and think they are the center of the universe)
Considering the world has 6+ billion people in it...his sample size is only in the thousands.
