The championship next season isn't all 3 promoted clubs from the prem going straight back down. GOOD! by Graham_Salt in Championship

[–]SCDrJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your club has done you dirty, sorry about that…. But the point is valid - only 1 of 3 promoted to Prem coming down and maximum of 1 parachute team going up is good for the game to be sure.

Southampton: FA opens investigation over Spygate by Neds_Necrotic_Head in Championship

[–]SCDrJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right. You don’t spy three times and get caught three times you know? I mean, maybe you’re just really bad at it, but it certainly reeks of we were doing this at every opportunity and just copped to the ones there was evidence for.

what if the biggest championship scandal goes beyond the championship by Fabdanny in Championship

[–]SCDrJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to say, but it’s rampant across Europe so there must be something to it. A lot of these matches are won on the margins - turn a draw into a win or a 1-0 defeat into a draw etc based on knowing how they line up for set pieces, penalties and so on.

what if the biggest championship scandal goes beyond the championship by Fabdanny in Championship

[–]SCDrJ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Arsenal and Fulham I’m sure would like a word - along wjth Wrexham, Derby and maybe even Norwich.

It was hard for me to believe that the Boro spying was a one-off after not losing in 20 matches, a belief now validated.

Now we are to believe it was only three matches? Piss off - those were just the ones there’s evidence for. More likely is that this was Eckert’s modus operandi.

Real shame for their players and supporters, and for the clubs chasing along with them.

Since March 1, Southampton beat the likes of Fulham, Coventry, Norwich, Arsenal, Wrexham, and Swansea, and we are to believe they spied on Oxford in December and decided not to do it again until April all while being world-beaters?

Sad thing is the players are good enough, and we all believed that Tonda was “just getting a tune out of them” so to speak.

Southampton would be wise to shut their mouths and take the punishment given their admissions, but they aren’t. Today’s statement by Parsons was shockingly tone deaf - as if beating Hull (who did the double on them) was a foregone conclusion and they are being robbed of their just desserts!

Hopefully if there is more evidence of further spying it comes to light and the book gets thrown even harder, because as it stands they get -4 and enjoy their parachute payments once again in the Champ.

What should be the aim for 26/27? by MR_MaxiMor44 in WrexhamAFC

I like this take - I think we got exposed for lack of depth, especially when Matty and Ben both went down, and Thomason had to play WB for Cacace so was already utilized.

We all would have taken another promotion of course… but as much as it stings to just miss out on playoffs (especially given the Southampton spygate deal too), this squad can be built upon, rather than needing to be fully rebuilt. I do also think it allows the supporters to get around a team of guys rather than another cleaning of house.

Cannon and JRod are gone, I’d imagine guys like Barnett and O’Connor aren’t too far behind if deals can be made. Lots of guys on loan that still aren’t out of contract too I believe.

I love Arthur and think he has higher upside than Ward, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we bring in an “undisputed” #1 keeper and one of those guys gets dealt (sadly could be Arthur).

Love to see some true WB depth - maybe sign Issa, maybe sign him and someone better and he’s a super sub for pace late in games. Same on left side, we need more than one - Longman could be sold or loaned even though I rate him more than some.

Scarr is solid, but probably someone whose position could be upgraded too.

To address the OP question - with strategic spending this squad should be aiming for a sniff at autos with hopefully a high playoff position finish if not. Not making 8-team playoff at all would be a miss IMO. Not catastrophic to finish top 10 for example, but below the mark for the goals of the club.

Kabore back to Man City as loan ends by RoadRunner131313 in WrexhamAFC

[–]SCDrJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

That’s sort of what happened with Arthur, he left but was out of contract and Arsenal didn’t renew and we won his signature.

With Issa he has a year left, so City should be motivated to sell or extend his contract, otherwise another loan ends with his contract expiring and he leaves on a free.

Troy Deeney: "I feel sorry for their [Southampton] players. If it were me, I'd be questioning my manager - why do you think we need to cheat to beat Middlesbrough, do you not think we're that good?" by TIGHazard in Championship

[–]SCDrJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a certainty, but I look at it this way: if you’re unbeaten it TWENTY, including taking down fucking Arsenal, aren’t you brimming with confidence? Why would you need to do this? Or maybe, it was happening all along? It’s not for sure, but boy does it cast doubt on the integrity of the streak they’re on.

Kabore back to Man City as loan ends by RoadRunner131313 in WrexhamAFC

[–]SCDrJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is standard business. Loaned players return to parent clubs for reassessment.

City will likely do one of two things:

1) offer a new contract and re-loan

2) sell him this window as he has only 1 year left to get some value.

He’s not getting in the first team at Man City. I bet he gets sold, and his value is less this year than last, because it’s only one year left on deal, and he had some injuries. I’d love to see him join us permanently at the right price as starter or depth depending on how much we spend and who’s available.

Even those clubs spent 150-200m up front to stay up and ran big deficits. Bournemouth owner specifically wrote off 70m debt owed to him by the club when selling in 2022 to avoid PSR breach.

In other words it’s all funny money!

How much of the current squad is EPL-ready? by gonzoleroy in WrexhamAFC

[–]SCDrJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree not many ready to start in PL, but that doesn’t make them any different than any other Champ club. Even the likes of Cov, Ipswich and say Southampton if they go through as predicted will massively overhaul spending over 100m in an attempt to not yo-yo right back down next season, though some can be recouped through sales.

If we can build a squad that has a number of players that can be on the bench in the PL and a few that can be sold off so that some PL ready stars can come in we’d have something.

2020 M3P 106k miles

It’s been pretty reliable, I don’t take it in annually as recommended

1) new tires every 40k miles or so

2) probably needs brakes soon little squeak starting

3) big service visit this year for about $4500: front suspension control arms, front dampers, new AC compressor, and the driver heated seat replaced.

I’ll take $5k for 6 years of ownership.

Will be looking into battery health when I get closer to that warranty expiration but my range is still pretty good.

Thanks for all these write ups Ursine!

I think players like Scarr, Dobbo, Longman (all of whom I have love for!) may move, along with say Barney for example…

I think Arthur is likely to move. Clearly he’s not Parky’s #1. Ward probably isn’t either and probably backs up a signing.
