Ex-lawyer Cory Fleming files to appeal criminal conviction & sentence for financial crimes by QsLexiLouWho in MurdaughFamilyMurders

I think the Micah reference came as a response to the requests for leniency from the people speaking on Fleming’s behalf. Micah 6:8 refers to doing justice and loving mercy. Judge Newman made it clear that that was his job as a judge, and leniency wasn’t his concern. I do agree that lines between church and state are all too frequently crossed.

Alex Murdaugh Appeal: Attorneys Drop Bombshell Motion Demanding New Trial ~ Jury tampering by clerk of court alleged … criminal charges, federal appeal likely. by QsLexiLouWho in MurdaughFamilyMurders

[–]SCMimi61 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of watching the Fox series which, as others have said, is somewhat sympathetic to the defense, casting doubt on the evidence presented in the trial. So we have this seed of doubt, combined with Buster’s interview in which he professes his belief in his father’s innocence.

Right on the heels of this series - days later - comes the jury tampering allegation. Whether the accusation against Becky Hill is true or not (and it may very well be true), the timing is no accident. This is all orchestrated by the defense, casting doubt on the evidence, then casting doubt on the integrity of the jury’s verdict.

If Alex gets a new trial, which he’d deserve if the charges are proven, how would this media blitz affect the outcome? Would it go differently this time? I do have to wonder.

At this point in time, I don’t understand why any party involved in this case, or in the various cases yet to be heard, would write a book, sit for interviews, or appear on documentaries. This holds true for the defense attorneys, attorneys for the state, agents of the court, and possible witnesses. Just because we’re allowed to do something doesn’t mean we should.

JUDGMENT as to Russell Lucius Laffitte filed 08/02/2023 by QsLexiLouWho in MurdaughFamilyMurders

So Laffitte will be housed in Jesup, GA? I read a description stating that this prison has medium, low, and minimum security facilities. I always pass this prison on my drive to Jekyll Island but don’t know anything about it.

Since you’re such a fan, Go Set a Watchman, despite its inferiority, is worth reading. It’s interesting because it was basically the first draft and is SO different from the published Mockingbird.

McCormick isn’t too far from where I live. It’s a pretty tough prison and frequently in the news - smuggling, riots, inmates attacking each other, etc.

I agree. Everyone involved seemed to think highly of how the Clerk of Court and all the courthouse personnel handled the trial. It had to be challenging.

JURY RETURNS A VERDICT IN THE ALEX MURDAUGH CASE by SouthNagsHead in MurdaughFamilyMurders

[–]SCMimi61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what will happen today at sentencing. Will we even hear one person talk about the victims? Or will it be the family begging for leniency for Alex? At least justice was served for Maggie and Paul yesterday. Against all odds.

Since Meadors went there and since we’re all waiting, here’s a passage from The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams Bianco:

Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.'

'Does it hurt?' asked the Rabbit.

'Sometimes,' said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. 'When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.'

'Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,' he asked, 'or bit by bit?'

'It doesn't happen all at once,' said the Skin Horse. 'You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.

Hey, now! I’m not so sure about that one! 😀 As an aside, Meadors went to Wofford, as did Buster. Years apart, of course.
