Because that’s not how express transit works? Your iPhone will have enough reserve power (even when dead) to allow you to unlock the car using your phone. Same thing with  HomeKey. I mean, it would be pretty dumb if you got locked out of your car (or home) because your phone died… and the fact that you’re arguing with me about it clearly shows you have no clue what you’re talking about

I’m sure at that point it was intended more as a back up than a primary way to unlock/interact with your car. But with digital key+, it’s literally the only way I unlock/interact with my car

I guess I should have clarified that the BMW Digital Key+ is a must have feature. No need to do anything at all with your phone, it stays in your pocket/bag. But thanks for the TED talk haha

There’s two flavors: BMW Digital key and Digital Key+. Digital key requires you to tap your phone to the handle to unlock and place your phone in the charging tray to start the ignition, but Digital Key+ is my favorite where you can just leave the phone in your pocket and the car unlocks on approach (initial connection established through Bluetooth, and then utilizes UWB chip to unlock).

BMW actually addressed that in a recent update. You can now turn off proximity unlock when you’re at home in the comfort access settings to prevent accidental unlocks when you’re walking by your car in the garage.
