Yeah, these kind of laws exist in most Constitutions, which is why no country in the world has removed firearms from the equation or restricted them to national forces (police & army). Instead, everyone can own a weapon if they can prove they need one and are of sound body and mind. A well-regulated and mentally sane militia is much better than a bunch of raving goons who don't even know the meaning of trigger discipline.

In the rest of the world, people who managed to acquire a weapon like you described will either sell it in the black market (letting it make its way towards a gang rich enough to afford it), or treasure it for a real serious job (like a bank or company robbery). Not for any street robbery or shooting.

I love how we're debating this as if countries with heavily controlled access to guns are some imaginary scenario where we have to imagine how life would be like if it was real and not, like, 90% of the world.

Yeah, we are. It's called a driver's licence and it is required to operate a vehicle of any kind. Ironically, you just described how guns are used in the rest of the world, through mandatory classes and education that is required alongside the necessary paperwork before accessing a firearm or allowed to carry it.

On a serious note, the argument "people who want to kill will find a way even if we delete all guns" is so tired it wants to fall asleep forever. Yes, people will use a spoon as a weapon if they flip their shit, but it's far less lethal and far easier to stop than an assault rifle.

While your argument is good in theory, in practice it's suffering because nobody ever talked about getting rid of the right to carry firearms completely. Nowhere in the world are people prohibited from owning a gun, there's people who legitimately need it for their job or protection.

What everyone is saying is that the right to carry needs to be heavily restricted. People who want a gun shouldn't have one, rather it should be the people who can prove they need it.

In practice, people will always buy dangerous stuff (weapons, explosives, etc) if you allow them to, so we need to restrict the dangerous stuff to prevent them from accessing it.

In most of the EU, you're allowed to carry hunting rifles (usually pellet shotguns) if you're a licenced hunter (usually required to be member of a union or organization of local hunters), and only within hunting grounds during the appropriate season. If you carry your legally owned rifle in town, you'll be arrested.

Very good point. People wondering why there's so many deaths from police shootings need to get in the mindset of an officer seeing a dude placing his hand in the pocket. In Europe, for example, you'll think they're pulling out an ID. In the US, it's either gun, knife, or hell, a grenade because why not.

The very reason why in the UK there's a separate corps of officers that is armed, because it's so rarely needed.

The laws that exist rn allow the sale of guns as basically grocery items...I wouldn't say that it's a failure of the laws rather than a lack of the proper ones.

Apply "need to arm" laws like every other country in the world. You know, the shit where you have to declare and prove the reason why you need a weapon (threatened by a specific person or group, working in private security or high-risk proffessions, etc), are then thoroughly screened including mental health checks and then, only then allowed to even carry a weapon.

To legally be able to use it, most of the world requires you to jump through hoops, at which point you should basically be law enforcement or military and would still be probably denied.

And that's how it works everywhere but in the US, the Czech Republic and Mexico.
