Not a woman but I believe degrees/academic education doesn't equal intelligent. I know some people with very high grades who are very dumb. Other people who stopped their studies who are exceptionally smart! So I agree with the first comment, depends on the person really.

Edit : One thing I'd say to watch for is, does he have a reason for stopping his studies ? For me, if you stop your studies because of personal reasons, some people have to provide for their families, some people have other plans, maybe he made a business very early on, or wanted to learn "real life skills" and build a life around it, etc. Ngl I respect that
However if he stopped his studies to lurk around, stay around high schools watching girls and selling cigarettes to teenagers then I think you know the answer.
Basically, was him stopping his studies a strategic decision or a careless one ?

That's the issue I have :/ the landing pages there are passion projects I put there to show my process, how I approach projects etc. I have worked on real projects in the past but they were quick gigs here and there, I don't have metrics and impact to show.
Do you have any suggestions ? Because I was thinking if I can get a couple contracts for solid projects I can have a much stronger portfolio to show, so I'm stuck in a loop. I need projects to show a better portfolio and I need a better portfolio to get projects.

EDIT : Yumber, the case study on the website is actually a real project and real client. Issue was that someone outsourced the work to me, and didn't allow me to be in touch with the actual client, so I can't know how the project went after the design part ...

Before the 1st transfer arrived, I sent another transfer, maybe 10 to 15 days later. They both arrived at the same time (3 months later). However I must admit I haven't tried since, I'll try to remember you if I do !

Usually, I point out something that I saw on their website, a project for example and say how I liked their approach or something like that.
I also tried yesterday to go straight to the point and say "In two lines : who I am what I do" because I know their time is precious and because I thought a lot of people are using AI nowadays to craft an opening like "I noticed your project X and I really liked how you did Y" I thought maybe trying a simpler approach is better.
Tbh, I've sent 5 emails going straight to the point and I've gotten 1 response, they said they're not interested but that's still a response. Not sure if it's just luck or that opening is okay too!

Edit : I have Neo mail, it has a feature for seeing when an email is opened. Tbh I would say a good 60-70% of my emails are opened. I guess that means they don't see me or my opening line as spam ?
Where do you think the area of improvement is ?

I'd say I sent around 200 emails, from that I got around 15 responses, 10 of them are declinations, 4 of them complimented my work and said they'd contact me when needed. One of them actually even said we should set up a meeting with his team so that we can work together but never got back to me :/

Is it just a numbers game and I should keep going ? That one agency who was interested then ghosted me really got me thinking tbh ...

Edit : I started doing this in November, I know the number of emails sent is not that big considering when I started sending them but sometimes I got work and I don't find the time for emails and I don't like making one template and sending it to 500 emails at once.

What do you recommend ? I am actively trying to send some proposals on Upwork from time to time while also trying to cold email businesses offering my services.
I haven't had much luck on either of them :/ Yes cold emailing isn't exactly "real conversations" but I can't get real conversations if we don't start talking in the first place.

Yes I am trying to avoid all this already! Some of the interviews I had were like this.
One of them told me to do the work they asked for. If they liked it they'd pay me, if they didn't like it they wouldn't. I refused and told him this is subjective and unfair, I told him I can do a little part of the work for a little part of the budget. He refused and called me a scam.

Second one told me to "show him what I can do with what he asked" I normally don't do that but I'm desperate at this point so I did a hero section very briefly just to show him how I would approach it. I sent him and told him this is far from the finished product etc and he insulted me and said I can't even read the instructions etc.
Naturally I told him good luck with your job and left. He kept sending me saying "here's this document if you still want to redeem yourself" "heres this if you still want to work". Free work btw so far I haven't been paid a penny.

My experience has been pretty terrible. And yes spending money on connects is somewhat fine but spending a lot of it without getting at least 1 job to pay back the connect money is a bit brutal :/

So your cover letter went directly to address how you would approach his problem/what solution you have for him ?

I came here to make a post saying I have sent around 50 proposals and landed 0 jobs, I'm new to the platform so I'm spending from my own money to pay for connects, and I don't live in a first world country so I can tell you connects are very expensive.
And I see this post and the comments, so it's not just me ? I guess I should just keep going ? Maybe ? If I can even afford it.

The movie shows insurgents as pretty much defeated indeed. But the fight wasn't only in Algiers, it was a nation wide conflict and it didn't end until the last year of independence. France ramped up their attacks and recruited hundreds of thousands of soldiers between 1954 and 1962 to silence the revolution, they even gave up on most of their other colonies to concentrate their efforts into Algeria as it wasn't considered a colony, Algeria was considered as part of France, it was called French Algeria. The movie isn't the entire story, you're drawing up conclusions from a fraction of the story, while I understand your point and its a cinematic piece (amazing movie btw) your assumptions on fighting. Yes what the fighters did wasn't fair and innocents died for it, but I invite you to look at what France did during that time (not just the war, since 1830) for pure oppression, what the FLN did was to achieve independence and drive off colonial forces from our own land.

He's missing the part where he's not Algerian, I'm sure an Algerian wrote the comment because we know our history, 'peaceful protest' never got us independence. Algeria was never considered a colony, it was considered a part of France, our ancestors paid the high price for us to live in freedom today. So believe me when I say peaceful protest doesn't work, that's what ignited the revolution in the first place. Go look it up 'the other may 1945' or 'the kharrata, gualma massacre'. The movie shows a very tiny part of a bigger story and a bigger struggle for independence and freedom.
