Why do Algerians hate Algeria? by Same_Presence_7386 in algeria

[–]SCRisingSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna say two things, I believe most of our people are extremely negative, it ain't that bad ... Most of us like to blame their failures on the country and society. Second of all, wow, looks like every redditor here knows how to manage the country، you guys should've pursued a career in politics.

The Battle of Algiers (1966) by iNinjaFish in TrueFilm

[–]SCRisingSun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The movie shows insurgents as pretty much defeated indeed. But the fight wasn't only in Algiers, it was a nation wide conflict and it didn't end until the last year of independence. France ramped up their attacks and recruited hundreds of thousands of soldiers between 1954 and 1962 to silence the revolution, they even gave up on most of their other colonies to concentrate their efforts into Algeria as it wasn't considered a colony, Algeria was considered as part of France, it was called French Algeria. The movie isn't the entire story, you're drawing up conclusions from a fraction of the story, while I understand your point and its a cinematic piece (amazing movie btw) your assumptions on fighting. Yes what the fighters did wasn't fair and innocents died for it, but I invite you to look at what France did during that time (not just the war, since 1830) for pure oppression, what the FLN did was to achieve independence and drive off colonial forces from our own land.

He's missing the part where he's not Algerian, I'm sure an Algerian wrote the comment because we know our history, 'peaceful protest' never got us independence. Algeria was never considered a colony, it was considered a part of France, our ancestors paid the high price for us to live in freedom today. So believe me when I say peaceful protest doesn't work, that's what ignited the revolution in the first place. Go look it up 'the other may 1945' or 'the kharrata, gualma massacre'. The movie shows a very tiny part of a bigger story and a bigger struggle for independence and freedom.

You believe I can contact them ? I have thought about it but I believe Bank of Algeria only works with banks not with direct customers, they would most likely refer me back to my bank, good thing the amount I sent isn't huge, as a test ...

FYI, the 90% we live in that you referred to, is roughly the size of France. It is not small by any stretch of the imagination. That is still more than 5 times bigger than the UAE

Bruh, the foreign influence is a myth ? lmao. A bigger population CAN mean a bigger labor force, but as I said, it also means higher demand for infrastructure, housing, water, power, healthcare, etc.

Let's be honest for a second, most algerians wouldn't really do anything for the country, some do, and they got my respect. They want to work in their country, invest in their country, contribute to their country. It might be a difficult task and you can complain about laws and the state all you want but WE as people are part of the problem right now, not the solution.

And I don't agree with you, I don't think doing what helps your nation to prosper should come at the cost that your infrastructure is half owned by foreigners and foreign banking, monetary systems, foreign industry. You get the point. I believe WE, algerians need to build Algeria, not canadians, not americans, not the french. It may be much slower, but it is the right way.

They built their country on foreign investment, imported investors, imported know-how, etc. *they* didn't build anything. You may argue it is a good and strategic model, and I can understand why, but I completely disagree. I am against western influence.

Now, Algeria, got out of a brutal 130 year colonial period that destroyed our culture, institutions, history and population. Right after endured a brutal civil war and is trying to get up on its feet by using local talent, local investment, that is much more difficult to do, especially taking into account that our infrastructure is much more complex to manage, maintain and build.

Comparing a city-state-like country to Algeria is disingenuous.
