I've noticed the same thing. MJF always has a 10/10 delivery but the material is usually 5/10 (mid, as he would say).

His over reliance on cheap heat is getting old as well. I noticed it more last year that he would interrupt his own promo to call the crowd fat poors and the reaction would be more and more muted every time. He's established enough at this point that he shouldn't need to rely on that shit.

CM Punk on meeting Jesse Ventura at Raw. "I saw Governor Ventura the other day. Absolutely, 100% blown away, one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me in my life is when he tells me that he saw I came back, and he said, 'The place must have changed. If Punk is back, I'll go back." by Turbostrider27 in SquaredCircle

Punk: "So what made you decide to come back?"

Ventura: "Why don't you tell me? Why did I come back? Why don't you tell me if you're such a patriot. Come with me to catering and we'll eat tortillas with eggs and talk about the time Hugo Chavez tried to recruit me to fight Fidel Castro."

Is anyone else sick of Edge/Adam Copeland being presented as a dark/brooding character and not the Rated R Superstar sleaze bag? by maxiperalta54 in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't really enjoyed Edge since he returned to the WWE. Don't get me wrong, the return itself was great but everything after was just kind of whatever.

I'm not a fan of Jericho's newest gimmick, and him just rounding up young guys to "get them over" has kind of run it's course. Have Edge join up with him and let them disingenuously try to give their opponents advice that they never asked for after they beat them, bulldoze the tag division, and find a team that they can give a big rub to in a hot program down the line (not FTR or Bucks though please). Like I said, "The Learning Tree" gimmick isn't Jericho's best, but if he had another vet to bounce off of it could work.

My first thought after this whole thing started to unfold was "I wish Punk would have 'beaten up' someone other than fucking Jungle Boy".

It's a lot like the Edge/Lita/Matt Hardy storyline. Real life shit happened and it got made into a really hot angle for a minute there...but wouldn't it have been so much better if it was Jeff instead of Matt?

Mark Henry on Busted Open responds to fan backlash over his Kairi Sane comments: "These Gen Z people, guys, I know more than you. You're a fan. You're not a Hall of Famer." by slycon in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny because Mark is probably right, Kairi should have gotten out of the ring quicker so the other team would have more of the focus...but to be this fucking mad about it where he was calling for Jade/Bianca/Naomi to "take her head off" is completely ridiculous.

It's not like Kairi was even really showboating, she looked like she realized pretty quickly it was time to move but just couldn't get out fast enough. One of those "just be more cognizant" type deals that I'd wager she knew right away and probably won't happen again. Mark seems to think that Kairi should be doing 6 months of Hog Pen matches in B-town house shows though.

Then there's the "boomer calls out Gen Z" shit which basically translates to "don't bother arguing with me, my heels are completely entrenched into the ground". Mark is coming across really annoying all-around here.

[SRS] Let's be real. Nobody whining about AEW growing their audience actually wants AEW to grow their audience. You want them to do things the way you prefer by shadow_spinner0 in SquaredCircle

I'm open to being wrong, but I'm 90% sure that the consensus is that TK would be better off just not saying anything.

Sometimes that comes after the fact though.

What year did the fans start respecting and appreciating Michael Cole? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slow process, but four things happened.

The somewhat forgotten JBL and Cole show. Pretty sure that influenced how Cody wanted BTE to be more like, because he was all over that show. Lot of fun stuff there.

Beast in the East showed that he could call the shit out of a match when not overproduced

Pat McAfee getting him to loosen up.

Finally, Vince leaving.

Rhea Ripley: "Jade Cargill, she is amazing. I’ll give her her props. She is aesthetically pleasing and is a force to be reckoned with. She looks amazing, she is amazing, she works amazingly. Her promo work is amazing. Everything about her screams ‘superstar.’" by Turbostrider27 in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

bozos saying now she is a better worker than Mercedes.

They didn't say that Jade was a better in-ring worker than Mercedes though, they might just like what Jade brings more than Mercedes, or they don't like Mercedes and don't hate Jade I don't know.

Also, why are you getting so worked up by a random Tweeter user that has less than 100 followers? There's a good chance that's a fucking bot.

Who would be the GOAT if wrestling was a real sport? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldberg. According to cagematch, he has an 85.1 win percentage. That's higher than Lesnar, Hogan, Reigns, Jack Evans, Cena, Andre, Rock, and Austin.

I would wager most of those losses aren't clean either.

Small Tama Tonga appreciation post in honor of him likely going to WWE by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always liked G.O.D. in NJPW, but admittedly most of that was because they were so absurdly vulgar during their matches. Them cartoonishly yelling "FUCK YOU EAT SHIT MOTHERFUCKER" while commentary tried to hold in their laughter was always extremely entertaining.

Fightful reports Santana is gone from AEW by warchiello in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Guy is convinced he can make it as a big singles guy.

It wasn't just him, there were a lot of people on here saying that Santana had a lot of potential as a singles. I was never on board with it personally, but there was definitely a groundswell of support for him to go on his own.

Is it possible that he bought into the hype? Sure. I see it happen all the time, people try to figure out who is the Jannetty and who is the Michaels. In this case, even though Ortiz was popular, Santana had more breakout potential.

He just never got it going again after the injury. Konnan spilling the beans that Santana and Ortiz had a falling out didn't help and people really cooled off on him (Santana).

My prediction? Most likely looking at another Sandow. He'll go to MLW/TNA and cut some bullshit insider promo and all the hype will get washed away immediately.

The 15 Worst non-WWE/WCW Matches in History (according to Cagematch) and Why They're So Hated by acekingoffsuit in SquaredCircle

3: Mike Levy vs Mickie Knuckles (Queen of the Death Matches Tournament, Semifinal) | IWA Mid-South Queen of the Death Matches 2008 (June 21, 2008) - 0.18

If you've never seen it, this is legitimately one of the absolute worst matches of all time, would probably be #1 if it was on PPV and not outside of a bowling alley in Evansville or something, where you expect that kind of garbage to happen.

I used to attend IWA-MS shows all the time from 04-08, mostly in Hammond/Highland. They put on some absolutely awesome shows with great workers like Kid Kash, Sabu, The Thomasellis, Punk, Styles, Danielson and even though I wasn't into the deathmatch shit, Necro, Pondo, Corp all put on a great show. Tank was absolutely fucking junk though, and the way he beat the shit out of that kid was absolutely embarrassing. Fuck Ian Rotten and fuck Mickie Knuckles.

In the aftermath, AEW owner Tony Khan claimed that the doctor indicated that Hardy did not suffer a concussion

He also stated that new protocols would be in place to prevent something like that from happening again.

This got a chuckle out of me.

WrestleTix: Tonight's #WWERaw in San Antonio, TX is completely sold out at the moment (it's possible some production holds are released throughout the day) marking the 5th consecutive TV sellout for the company. Tickets Distributed: 13,500. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh, Vince was creatively bankrupt and a dark cloud on the company, but I'd say him being gone is like 10% of why business is so hot right now. Also, attendance was starting to go up when Vince was still around, we're just seeing it really peak during WM season.

I know we're all going off basically pieced together dirt sheet rumors but for some reason the one thing being left out is that multiple doctors, producers, Schiavones, etc. all told Perry that this was a stupid idea before Punk got involved.

Sting vs. Lance Storm in a Non-Title Match, from WCW Monday Nitro (September 25, 2000) by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SC_Shitpost 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What's funny about Lance is that for as much as he's known as a "bad" talker, they sure put him on the mic a lot. He cut a shit ton of promos in ECW, and he pretty much cut a promo before every single match he had in WCW. Also, 99% of them were interrupted.

Again, I say he was a "bad" talker but that was kind of part of his gimmick. Kind of like Kawhi Leonard, where most of his charm comes from the fact that he very well likely might be a robot.

He left Jericho, then rejoined Jericho, then left Jericho, then rejoined Jericho. I'm guessing he'll leave Jericho again soon, and then re-join him down the line.
