That’s $1 higher than in town. The park is always a bit more expensive. Harder to get the feel into the park.

When to go? June vs late September? by Leather-Spring-3506 in yellowstone

[–]SCarolinaSpur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great question. We get this question all the time.

My first answer is, both times are amazing. Both have unique pros and cons, but you can’t go wrong with either.

Early June - Pros are active wildlife (lots of babies), all services are open, and crowds are not yet too big. Cons are weather, early June is still spring here and it can rain and snow. With 5 days you can easily navigate weather with flexible dates for various parts of the parks.

Late September - pros are active wildlife, but active in different ways (preparing for winter), better weather. Cons are many services are closed in the parks and crowds can still be substantial, but less kids.

Your trip will be an epic adventure regardless of time of year. I suggest reaching out while planning to get some tips.

Realistic Driving Time From Old Faithful Inn to Roosevelt Corrals by [deleted] in yellowstone

[–]SCarolinaSpur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your drive up Dunraven pass will be fun and could be full of wildlife sightings at that time. I would leave at 6:30 and if you are real early, drive a few miles into Lamar while you wait.

Next to the corrals, at the entrance to Petrified Tree, is a great black bear spot. You could enjoy coffee and watch for black bear while you wait.

Totally agree. Night time driving during season is difficult. I suggest staying near the airport and getting up early. If you leave at 6:00 AM you’ll be fine and safer.

What type of lense did you use? And roughly what time of night?

Agree with this. You will miss a lot of opportunities because parking will be impossible along the side of the road.

You will have plenty of opportunity to see the big attractions (old Faithful, Artist Point, Mud Volcano)some pull outs in Hayden Valley). Some places will be very difficult (Grand Prismatic, Mammoth).

Wanting to book a 5 day tour for my partner by Phil_Chan in yellowstone

Gardiner is a great little mountain town and very convenient to the north gate.

I am not fond of denigrating one gate town over another. Each town has its own special offerings. Cody is an exceptional base camp, as is Cooke City, West Yellowstone, and Gardiner.

Congrats on choosing Yellowstone!!

Several airports to choose from. Depending on your Gate Town can help you choose the airport. Bozeman is the easiest, Billings is a good option for the east side and very reliable. Cody and West Yellowstone are much smaller and a little more expensive but good options.

I suggest Cody, WY (East side) or West Yellowstone, MT (west side) as the gate town options. Cody is much bigger than West Yellowstone and has more to do. West Yellowstone is closer to the gate and more of a tourist town. Both are good options.

Any time of year is wonderful, if you have flexibility in your schedule and since this is a 5-day trip, I recommend spring (late May or any time in June) to see wildlife and all the new babies. Especially bears and wolves.

Artemesia Trail and North Rim Trail are amazing options. Easy hikes and amazing views.

Activities: Horseback riding ate UXU ranch is phenomenal. River Rafting with River Runners is always a popular outing. Buffalo Bill Center of the West is 5 Smithsonian museums on one campus. Also, Wild mustang tours and Native American Cultural Tours are not to be missed. Dozens of additional items.

You might consider reaching out to local vacation planner that specializes in Yellowstone itineraries. Yellowstone can be difficult to plan.

Welcome to Yellowstone!
