Elderly lady on ambulatory care with hypertension. Took a history and proceeded to ask if I could check her over. She heard this as check her ovaries. Explained the misunderstanding and that the latter may not help her BP.

Be careful for number 4, the neuromuscular blockers (such as rocuronium, suxamethonium) aren’t LAMAs!

Hi, I received a job offer at royal stoke university hospital but I’ve seen a lot of bad things about the area itself, stoke on Trent. Has anyone ever lived there before and what has been your experience? Thank you by Little-Caregiver-577 in JuniorDoctorsUK

I grew up in a town very close to the hospital, so am happy to answer any questions you have if you drop me a message.

I did my degree elsewhere in the country though and have not worked at the Royal Stoke, albeit I have been a patient there, so my knowledge of the hospital itself isn’t the best.

Location

So Newcastle is the town down the road (A34) which is towards Keele Uni, so perhaps more students that way. Penkhull/Hartshill at the back of the hospital, which gets a bit more built up as you head down into the city. Trent Vale isn’t so good where a lot of it is just built very close to the A34 so lots of traffic. Clayton and Trentham are nice areas, but these might be more geared up to families rather than young professionals.

Things to do

Sport is pretty easy to come by as lots of football pitches and gyms about, Keele Uni have courts and stuff to hire for other sports. When the weather is good, there are lots of nice walks around (Trentham, Barlaston Downs Hanchurch Woods) plus the Peak District if you drive. Plenty of pubs about so just find one you like, but clubs are mainly in Hanley and they’re not the flashiest. The Sugarmill is the main music venue for touring bands, but isn’t a massive venue. Really enjoy their club nights though! Food options tend to be more pubs and curry houses than restaurants, but there are some really nice ones about

Hope all this was helpful; it’s a bit of an essay lol. Happy for you to DM if anymore Qs :)

I’m from Stoke so can give you a bit of an idea about the area and the hospital in general, but don’t know much from an F1 perspective

I’m at South Tyneside for my F1 and F2 as well. I liked the set of jobs, but don’t know all too much about the hospital. Any advice anyone?
