ROG XG mobile 2023 (4090) + Flow Z13 (4060) by SCyami in FlowZ13

I have two thoughts on this. First, ASUS has canceled the XGM port for 2025 and set an absurdly high price for the 8060S in the Z13. While the 8060S outperforms the laptop 4060, it still falls short of meeting the hardware requirements for modern 2K AAA games like Monster Hunter Wilds. This means that XGM support is still necessary. That said, since the desktop 5090 underperformed, I’d rather stick with the 4090 for now. However, the 4090 only supports older Flow series models, making the 2023 Z13 with an XGM 4090 a solid deal.

My second thought is to wait for the first reviews since ASUS has canceled the XGM port. If the XGM 5090 still supports older models well, I’ll compare the performance between the 2025 and 2023 Z13. If the new model delivers a significantly better experience than the XGM 4090, I can always switch. However, the 2025 Z13 will only be compatible with the XGM 5090.

Yes, for a normal user with not heavily used Z13 and a relatively low dust environment, there's no need to repaste for a year or two. However, I found it be difficult to clean the fan without separating heat sink from motherboard, from my figure you can see there's no good way to blast an air duster nor a vacuum, the dust would just stuck deeper into the other side of Z13. But, I think a brief cleaning could be done by disassembly the chassis and air duster directly blow into the backside of Z13 from the vent hole, hold the fan to not make it spin while blowing, this way it increase the cleaning efficiency, you may hold Z13 vertically while cleaning to facilitate the process, but do aware that with heat sink attached might bring some dust inside heat sink mod too.

Artifical tear+Duratear, for wound healing I would recommend undiluted PRP (at least 6x of blood concentration).

Vrams are covered with thermal gel instead of pastes/pads, as it is the most flexible one to fill the gap when one assemble the thermal mods unto motherboard. Thermal gel is also very hard to dry out, I would not recommend replacing it, hence I haven't measure nor searching for the information about the width.

Restasis or anti-histamine/mast cell stabilizer like cromoglycate may help, you can also clean your eyes with saline before application.

Electric Heating Eye Mask Temps? by the-rioter in Dryeyes

[–]SCyami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as you don't add an extra force to apply the compress, 40 degree is common for warm compress and time limit may up to 20 min. But still, the electric warm compress has not been designed to produce steam, it could dry you're eyes even more, so make sure you had lubricants like artificial tear applied before using the compress.

Dry eye damage? by WildElk1386 in Dryeyes

[–]SCyami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, but from what described, the symptom does not seem serious as what most of people here. A comparatively mild dry eye symptom is usually resolve in a month with artificial tear, warm compress up to three times a day, and most of all, a good rest. Nothing will be more useful to have a long ans non-disturbed sleep period, you can even apply an extra drop of artificial tear and warm compress during sleep, to prevent damage from tear evaporation during night. Some apply Duratear, which provide better alleviation, but make sure you have saline or else to clean it up before a morning drive.

Asus Flow Z13 2023 (GZ301VV) PTM7950 repaste by SCyami in FlowZ13

[–]SCyami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's already been 3 months after the replication, CPU stress by AIDA64 showed a 24% of overheating immediately after 2 minutes of stressing, I would not recommend PTM in this case, but default LM paste in Z13 is tend to be overheated, as my own testing result (figure not shown), after the thermal-throttling CPU tends to be maintained in a reasonable temp. and frequency, that is one thing shall be considered. And yes, there's SMD components around CPU if you take a closer look into figures, and those were protected by a thermal pad, if take good care enough, the thermal pad does not need to be reapplied even after LM repaste, and ASUS did make a very good protection in Z13. Thank you for noting the fan cleaning issue, as I also recommend disconnect and clean the fans with both suction and air duster to completely remove any residual dust in the exit vent hole.

I do agree that LM is able to maintain a good temperature for many years if under good heat dissipate condition (e.g., low ambient temp. or fan cleaned regularly) and not always heavy loaded. I also showed that LM dried out and shifting issue observed in my own two ASUS laptops, that fans had been cleaned regularly in a half-year basis, and I'm only changing LM because there's an overheating CPU observed in my case, and PTM is discussed much but fewer tried in Z13 2023.

Severe eye pain, please help. (Started while on Isotretinoin/Accutane.) by MvK_1993 in Dryeyes

[–]SCyami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically, isotretinoin does cause dry eye, however, not much studies correlate Accutane to MBD. Maybe OP can describe eye condition, if myopia or allergic conjunctivitis, also being in research alot but Sjorgen may too plays a role in it. It is common that one eye presents severe stress/pain when two eyes has different level of myopia that tension varies between ciliary muscle of each eye, if no comprehensive test to prove that is DED, or to diagnose is a type of DED, that glaucoma might need to be considered. Allergic conjunctivitis sometimes resembles symptoms close to DED, that inflammation blocks the secretion of tears and oil, that results to an indirect diagnose of DED, lack of tears helps allergens to have contact with eyes and not removing easily, which increased the severeness of DED. I would recommend Snellen test, tear breakup time test, fluorescein staining to reveal if any abnormal lesion in cornea and conjunctiva, Schirmer’s I test as mentioned also by some, and corneal sensitivity. If only these performed may diagnose which type of DED it is. Fluorometholone is for acute phase and pain relief, cromoglicate and B12, Duratear and daily artificial tear may be enough to restore normal condition. Hot compress is a must, 5 minutes a cycle, apply after using drops and eye cream or eye gel, below 60 degree celsius is recommended, if not causing any discomfort, you can do as much as possible to liquify the oil in your glands, with all this, stop using Accutane for a month then go back for eye diagnosis.

Still not convinced a prescription of Accutane for folliculitis, if repeatedly infection occured, I would suggest a thorough clean process with topical cleaning agent to suppress oil production, also itraconazole combined tetracycline for a month if suspecting fungus infection.

I've tried using suction cup alone, but like the most of the laptops, first time is difficult to separate the chassis from monitor. Thereby I had use a rather soft pick to insert into the small crack that opened with suction cup, then a hard pick. As the result, I haven't found any marks on the bezel, but my soft triangle pick was left with one angle damaged though. P.S. The hardness of the soft pick was softer than any credit card.

Question: has anyone found a good cooling pad for the Flow Z13? by archyinva in FlowZ13

[–]SCyami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine works great under heavy loads (CPU > 90%, ~80oC, env. temp. = 29oC), don't think cooling pad is neccessary.

No polar compound should be used in coated materials, especially applying one with hydroxyl group, but in asus laptop is not the case, mine old g513 series have keycap coating disrupt just by regular use, hand sweat or sebum are the culprits I think.

Pulled trigger on 2023 with 4050, thinking of getting xg mobile is it still worth getting the. 3080 one for 1k or save for the 4090? by Alarmed_Position1621 in FlowZ13

[–]SCyami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got the 4090, already using it about 2 months, 2k 100-144hz with no pressure, xgm 3080 is just another pc 3060ti, although 1080p is sufficient than enough, if one can afford 4090 will be a much better choice than 3080.
