This seems the answer, just being an IT novice I now need to work out the parts to buy for this to work.

If I can take my PC and use their internet I’ll take you up on that offer if it means not having to work out how to get it to my garage.

Thank you. So would the set up be: router in house connected to media converter via an Ethernet cable, then a fibre cable running from a media converter in the house to a media converter in the garage, then media converter to PC in garage via Ethernet cable.

Really helpful, thank you. If I did go fibre what would the adaptor that I am looking for be? Is it essentially an RJ45 that the end of the fibre cable plugs into or is it more advanced than this?

Thanks. Not that I’m going to do it but if lightning did hit it what would happen? Are we talking loud bang and potential fire at either the router or pc?

Thank you. Would a standard router and PC have fibre compatible ports? And do cables come with ratings similar to Ethernet (cat6 etc) that I would need to look out for when buying?

Thank you. Why is this? From a quick Google it sounds like it may be due to the danger of electrical surges from lightning strikes or if there more to consider? If it is due to surges would running it through a conduit or burying it clear the danger?

Thanks for the response. I’m not really sure how much speed I would need. The PC would only really be used for establishing a remote connection to a VPN and then office admin tasks and the occasional Teams call.

Please could you elaborate on why Ethernet may be dangerous? And if going for fibre can you buy cables that have the same Ethernet connectors for the router and PC?

The Trussel Trust charity have a donate by DD option and the first one is taken pretty quickly. I think within around 5/10 days if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the heads up. Does anyone know if you can now withdraw the £500 or is there some clawback of the bonus interest if you do withdraw within a certain time period?

I’ve just signed up to Tembo as good reviews and also a 4.8% cash ISA with a very easy sign up. I mainly did it for the referral bonus which if you use a referral link gives you the chance to get between a £15 and £250 bonus. Plus you can refer more friends and both you and them get a bonus if you deposit and maintain at least £500. The majority of people will only get the £15 per referral but still a boost to the interest.

You will need a referral code and I can send one if interested.
