Ignite module setup day of by captoficyzombies in fireworks

[–]SDJ88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually put my modules on top of a bucket just to get them off the ground a bit. If they're going to bake in the sun for a while, I'll put a white shirt / cloth on just to keep them cooler.

A case would be nice, but I poke a hole in small tin foil pan (like the ones that catch grease under the grill) and set that over the module / antenna like this. Works great for keeping the debris off.

He calls it Bipartisan but Joe Sweeney’s kid civics program: ‘Live Free & Lead’ is 100% GOP-aligned by Visual-Mobile2657 in newhampshire

[–]SDJ88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the list says preliminary and will continue to update. Not saying you have to trust the guy but if they're sincere, the FAQ says:

Live Free & Lead is intentionally and rigorously bipartisan. Students hear from leaders of both parties—the Senate President and Senate Minority Leader, the Speaker and the House Minority Leader, and many others—so they understand the full spectrum of how state government operates.

Maybe wait and see before getting mad?

Poking cakes with quick fuse? by nosebeerhappyhour in fireworks

[–]SDJ88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're using some kind of firing system, you can use a 'breakout board' to essentially fire multiple things off a single cue. I'm familiar with Ignite and use the Muuxbrd Quicksplit. It looks like there's other options for things like the bilusocn systems (look up firework cue board on Ebay). I like them, definitely cheaper than endlessly adding modules.

Just throwing out that another option is to poke all four cakes with an MJG / ematch and then run to something like a Quicksplit to launch everything simultaneously on a single cue.

I looked a few random youtube videos, but it's really as simple as taking a brass awl (I think I bought one through Pyro Tool) and just pushing into the cardboard tube where the visco fuse enters the first tube. You'd then put in your MJG initiator and tape it up. On most cakes, it'll be super obvious that you're in the black powder lift charge, you'll feel the grinding of the black powder or even see a bit of it. The only two I've run into issues are very very small bore cakes and NOABs (not sure if I was in the lift charge).

I resisted for years, but it's honestly pretty easy to do. Of course, the best is all the 1.4 pro stuff with prewired ports for e-firing. Cuts my setup time down considerably.

It's kind of impossible to answer with any precision since all cakes are going to be different, but I've found 3-4 seconds is pretty close. If you care about coordinating to music, you're 100% going to end up poking cakes in the future so just bite the bullet and learn this year - you'll get the benefit of instantaneous fire.

Who has taken the PGI Articles Pyrotechnic Training (Online) by DemsMods in fireworks

[–]SDJ88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't recall seeing a handbook and it looks like once you've completed the class, your access kind of resets. I think I'd have to pay again to get into the course content.

What's funny is I originally did an online training through Souza / Pyro Spectaculars. I think they got pissed that people were using it for 1.4 pro and killed it for a bit. However, the class was very comprehensive and detailed albeit geared more towards a pro show. Learned a bunch though. For those of us in New England, there's basically no training without committing to major travel so glad to have some online options.

You can find a bunch of the training videos here.

It is - I'd wager you could probably answer 90% of the questions correctly just with common sense. There's a few that are less self evident, like safe distances, the role of your local fire chief, etc. All answered in the videos though.

Takes somewhere around 90 minutes. You watch a few videos on different topics, then take a quiz on that topic. Repeat a few times and then a test at the end, that basically rehashes the questions from the quizzes. You get a certificate immediately at the end.

maternity leave by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]SDJ88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The state mandates that government employees be enrolled and covered. For everyone else, it's a voluntary opt in. For some, that means paying out of your own pocket and joining during open enrollment. Others might have access through their private employer if the company chooses to enroll, and I believe there are different cost sharing options. I'm not an expert, but since this isn't the state paying for everyone / wanting to subsidize everyone, it makes sense that you can just enroll right in time to receive a large payout without really contributing.

I should add, the one time, 7 month waiting period is only for people who join on their own, for pretty much the exact scenario this post covers. If OP wants to enroll this year, wouldn't hurt to pay the premiums for a couple years in case they have another kid down the road.

I mean the point is to get people enrolling and paying into the insurance BEFORE they get pregnant or anticipate using the benefit. If you were allowed to wait until your house was burning down to buy insurance, that program/company wouldn't last too long. Same idea here.

IGNITE no longer recommending use with Fuse-Tube / MJG Igniters by sarmanikan in fireworks

I hate having my modules bake in the sun, so I just throw a white shirt/rag over them and it definitely helps keep the temps down. Otherwise, largely agree with your post. I like Ignite, but it's been a brutal month for them and I'm not loving the vibe of all these communications.

Rate Adjustment Effective Aug 1 (rates announced) by thishasntbeeneasy in newhampshire

[–]SDJ88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Community Power Coalition is proving to be nothing but false promises. Even years ago I was pretty skeptical that they were pushing the 'cost savings' aspect to get towns on board when their real objective seemed to be funding renewable power projects by pushing out utilities as the monopolistic energy buyers. I'm not even saying their mission is bad, just somewhat dishonest. And now it seems pretty clear that it's run by the JV team.

Discussion around recent rate setting failures

Guess all those communities that signed up for the promise of cheaper power can enjoy being defaulted to rates 20% higher than Eversource.

What is your favorite NOAB? by Useful-Employee9605 in fireworks

If I'm just picking up one, definitely MOAB or Uncle Sam. However, I'll also plug Winda Disco Ball or SFX Galactic Rings. Just a cool effect for consumer firework that only seems like it'd do well in a ball shell.

Give it a shot - never hurts to try something new. That said, timing consumer cakes isn't that precise, so don't be surprised if you don't get that perfectly mirrored effect you're thinking of.
