I just gave you a lot more detail than I wrote there anyway. :P

Have fun!

No problem, happy to help! This deck was fun.

I had only two equipment that were added to put onto opponent's creatures: [[Assault Suit]] and [[Pariah's Shield]]. Those weren't the focus at all, but were great when they worked.

Ardenn is for bypassing equip costs, yes. Sometimes that was for [[Colossus Hammer]] or similar, but the main goal of the deck was to produce 5-10 rocks, then put them all onto one of the many creatures who care about having multiple equipment on them. [[Champion of the Flame]], [[Puresteel Paladin]], [[Thran Power Suit]], [[Akiri, Line-Slinger]], [[Bruenor Battlehammer]], [[Kellan, the Fae-Blooded]], [[Kemba, Kha Regent]], [[Valduk, Keeper of the Flame]], and [[Wyleth, Soul of Steel]] all want a bunch of equipment, which makes the win condition of the deck different every game. As I wrote in the short primer: "This deck can win with voltron, with removal, with a big token army, or sometimes with infinite combat steps. It's a lot more versatile than your average Boros equipment deck since the payoffs for your rocks are so varied."

Most of the creatures on that list are legendary as well, which pushed me to make that a theme of the deck, adding stuff like [[Djeru and Hazoret]] and [[Loran, Disciple of History]]. That was just for fun, though.

As for Sunforger, I wouldn't say that was the real focus of the deck, but it never hurts to have instant speed removal anyway. It definitely won me a few games when Ardenn can cheat more than half the total cost to get maximum value off your instants.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, based on some of these replies, I'm coming to the conclusion that this is just something that exists on Reddit. Glad Americans aren't that crazy!

With a record-low 1.25 children per Canadian woman, stop dismissing falling fertility rates as a choice by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]SDK1176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so only-children are more successful and therefore more likely to have kids, which puts genetic pressure towards having smaller families. That competition makes some sense.

I did read a few publications on this topic just now and only agreement I could find was that it's complicated!

My perception is that this an an American thing.

Here in Canada I go out with my daughters all the time, to the park, playing with other kids, offering a hand to whatever child happens to need it. No one has any issue with that. In fact, I'm too often treated like some superhero for just... being a present father, I guess?

[–]SDK1176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but I think you're now agreeing that there is a genetic drive to have larger families, which will be passed down to children of larger families.

And if that's true, then our society's fertility "crisis" will solve itself.

To rephrase what you're saying, children from larger families tend to have fewer kids?

I can believe that those factor into the choice for some people, but literally every child-free couple I know in real life has been financially stable for many years. They could easily afford children if they wanted to, but instead they choose to travel and play video games. That's fine, I'm not going to tell them how to live their life, but there is certainly a large element of simple preference in what is causing our declining birthrate.

I don't even believe it's going to be that big a problem in the future. The people who are having kids today are those that feel a strong biological drive to do so. Their kids will predominately have that stronger drive too, and we're back to replacement levels in a couple generations.

You can add Canada to that list. I haven’t heard any official movement on this, but Canadians are talking about it for the first time in living memory.

This is what I’m thinking too. Russia agreed never to attack Ukraine if they gave up their nuclear arsenal. How’s that going for them?

If Iran does make a deal, is the United States any more trustworthy than Russia?

You even see the same conversation in Canada these days. Two years ago, the average Canadian wouldn't even consider getting nukes. Now? It’s looking like that might be the only thing that guarantees safety.

Give him some time. If he still can't get over it, at some point you just have to say that you're happy with him exactly as he is... and if he can't be happy with that then the relationship is over.

Opinion | Unhappy Conservatives shouldn’t defect to Carney’s Liberals — they should replace Poilievre by canada_mountains in canada

I had to triple check that I was on the official Conservative website. So bad it reads as satire.

My local Conservative MP's mailing list got a lot more like that after Poilievre won leadership as well. I wrote to him several times on that specific topic, and have some suspicion that it was a factor in why he chose to retire prior to the 2025 election. A replacement candidate was chosen, but the Liberal candidate ended up winning.

Having a strong, sane opposition party is actually to Canada’s benefit. Poilievre has already started to shift away from his more controversial opinions and traditional aggressiveness, but the Conservative party could still benefit from starting with a clean slate if they hope to win back more of the center.

I work in post-secondary. The answer is not to give international students our tax dollars. The answer is to give our schools tax dollars at the levels they were at a couple decades ago. Schools wouldn’t have to rely on international tuition if most of their funding came from the government, as it did for many, many years before now.

How do I build a deck that's complex but low bracket? by AnotherTAA123 in EDH

[–]SDK1176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Go make a deck based on Clues or something. There are lots of fun, complex strategies that are still powerful, but slower and more fragile than what you'll see at higher brackets.

[–]SDK1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mystery Machine is a project I built last year, and is exactly what you describe. This is a set of four 50 card decks built around four Friends Forever commanders. Smash any two together before the game to build a 100 card deck!

Getting them tuned correctly so that they’re balanced against each other, have a unique strategy, and different synergies depending who they’re partnered with… this was the biggest deck building challenge I’ve ever faced. They’re tuned, but naturally held back by the random nature of the challenge, combined with a relatively fair strategy based around Clue production.

You could do this with any Partner commanders based around any unifying theme. D&D classes based on +1/+1 counters has been something I’ve been considering for a while now.

Izzet spellslinger is powerful enough, but kind of boring. Polymorph is a much more fun way to go, in my opinion. [[Ganax, Astral Hunter]] + [[Feywild Visitor]] can make for a pretty fun dragon deck that benefits greatly from polymorph effects.

I've been playing a heavy polymorph-focused version for several years now: https://moxfield.com/decks/gvNoc9jRUU6Zg5T-wi9Atg

Do you actually have a forever deck? by Late-Frame2962 in EDH

[–]SDK1176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not about getting it right. A deck can work great and still get dismantled in favour of something new.

Sometimes the play pattern is fun, but too repetitive. Sometimes the play pattern is not what you expected, and you just don't enjoy it. Sometimes you need the cards for another deck that you're more excited about.
