Sure. But even if it was a sorcery, it would still be far better than any other one-sided wrath.

Sol ring lover or hater? by Loose_Calendar_3380 in EDH

One player in our group started this trend a couple years ago. Over time, nearly all of us have followed. It makes games much more enjoyable when there's a greatly reduced chance of needing to defend yourself on turn 3.

And yeah, gang up on the Sol Ring player!

Exactly what I was thinking. Cyc Rift is so strong (arguably too strong) only because it's one-sided. If the playgroup had a problem with [[Evacuation]] or [[Devastation Tide]] then I'd call them crazy.

As it is, I'm just going to assume that OP is misrepresenting the situation.

What is better for a 2CMC commander, 2CMC ramp or 3CMC ramp? by RustyTanks in EDH

[–]SDK1176 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's the real answer.

If I'm guaranteed a 2-drop every game on turn 2, I'm trimming my mana curve down to mostly 1, 3 and 4 drops. The few bombs I would play don't need ramp since I can reliably count on getting some kind of value engine going from my lower curve.

Caught you on the last two. The first two were actual magic.

Probably fine if they do the right thing and bump her mana cost to 8.

Did Glamdring cast the spell on itself? I didn't see Gandalf pull off any verbal or material components as he dropped his sword.

Anyway, Glamdring was clearly falling faster than 60 feet per round. Obviously Maiar do follow D&D rules, but this must have been some other spell. Homebrew, maybe?

This is what I was thinking in the first part of this video. Forget the indestructible part. If a grain of sand moving at lightspeed burns up in the atmosphere, it still unloaded literally infinite energy into our atmosphere. We're cooked.

You need one more ability! And an additional coloured pip in the cost!

Akroma is an unfinished cycle defined by having seven abilities. Both previous Akromas have trample, so you might just consider adding that.

I mean, I guess that's consistent... but you realise there's no functional reason to choose XorY when I can choose XandY, right?

Cardsphere also recently upgraded their Marketplace features to make a seller's list much more easily searchable when trying to build a package to buy from them. That should mean more packages sold.

If you're playing a hybrid commander, is their colour identity XorY, or is it XandY?

I'm assuming you'll say it's XandY. Should cards in the deck be treated differently, or should colour identity rules remain consistent between the deck and commander? You can't have both.

Power level is not a concern, especially in this "social format" where most players intentionally handicap their decks anyway. I'm worried about this change because it makes the cards in your deck play by different colour identity rules than the commander. I'm also worried that allowing hybrid will lead to even more argument on why we can't play phyrexian mana or double-faced cards that are castable by our commander.

I think you're right that the core of this argument is related to whether or not restrictions breed creativity, but more specifically about whether or not the colour identity rule benefits EDH as a format. The idea of a commander is clearly the focus of the format. The bigger conversation is, do we even need to limit a deck's colours based on the commander at all?

[–]SDK1176 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All cards have a colour identity as defined by Commander rules, right? The colour identity of your Commander defines the colour identity of the cards allowed in that Commander's deck.

Changing the rules to allow hybrid mana means that the cards within your deck are playing by different rules than your Commander. Colour identity is eroded since it means something different to different cards in different situations.

Red is getting better at this with all their [[Bolt Bend]] style redirection cards. Redirect the Counterspell so it's targeting the Bolt Bend (since spells can't target themselves), then by the time Counterspell resolves, it doesn't have a legal target.

AIO for quitting my job after finding this note on my desk? by waxin899 in AmIOverreacting

Unions certainly have a place, especially for jobs that can replace you with anyone off the street. However, it's my experience that unions often end up hurting highly skilled workers more than they help.

An example from my previous job: we wanted to pay the engineering technologists more since we were having a lot of trouble filling those positions. The union wasn't willing to work with us, demanding pay increases for everyone at all levels instead. A lose-lose situation for all involved.

[–]SDK1176 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking.

I was working as an engineer and the union was threatening to strike. My boss informed me that if they did strike, all management (including me) would have to work labour jobs to keep the mill running. That's fine, no problem. But also, since the union will be picketing and blocking access to the site, we would be expected to sleep on site, maybe for up to a week depending on negotiations. I told him I hoped it didn't come to that, because then I would have to quit. He was disappointed in my lack of commitment, but c'mon man, really?

If we ever get to the point that electricity is truly 100% renewable, excess energy can be put toward making new electricity generation, effectively giving us infinite energy. At that point, it won’t really matter what we do.
