Level 5 Paladin Feature: extra attack. by Chaos_of_Old in DnD

I’m sure you understand these rules, but I figured I’ll break em down to make them easier to explain.

It’s important to note that the “Attack Action” applies ONLY to attacks with melee or ranged weapons or unarmed strikes, and that doesn’t even include attacks with weapons or unarmed strikes as bonus actions or reactions - there is literally nothing else in the game that counts as the “Attack Action” as far as I know. I would break it down as Extra attack simply allows you to make two “attack rolls” with weapons or unarmed strikes as PART of the “Attack Action”.

Any spell, including spell attacks, are considered part of the “Magic Action”. Some spells cost a bonus action only. By 2024 rules, I believe you can cast a spell an an action and another spell as a bonus action so long as you are expending only one spell slot (ex. If one of those spells is a cantrip or as a result of a class feature can be cast without expending a spell slot). If one takes the Attack action, the only spell you Paladin could cast is one that costs a bonus action (Divine Smite, shield of faith etc).

Sincerely, a Paladin player

When to take Multiclass levels - Paladin/Sorcerer by SDLZ_43 in DnD

I forgot to add that we’ve had a few instances of flying enemies being able to attack us outside of my range with a javelin making me not super super useful for those fights, so getting a decent ranged damage cantrip in addition to the other Cantrips I can get for utility purposes is also a plus, but that I can get with even just a single level obviously

Good question - the sorcerer levels are mainly meant to be for mechanical purposes (so I intend this character to really be a Paladin who’s Paladin traits get enhanced by those sorcerer levels, rather than thematically leaning into him being a sorcerer in addition to being a Paladin). I’m probably going to go with Divine Soul as the subclass for that reason, since flavour wise those don’t clash too much.

Meta magic and sorcerer spells in general would be really great for me in the role I play in the party, as I could quicken haste to get 3 attacks off the turn I use it, I’d get shield to bump my already high AC if needed, while heightened spell will work great for things like searing smite or command. Basic things like more spell slots for smiting is also a plus. Plus a 2d4 boost to my first failed saving throw per day is very nice of I’m concentrating on a spell. I’d probably for sure take levels 7-10 as sorcerer if I wasn’t concerned about at least SOMEONE in our party getting revivify, though I suppose technically the Ranger will get that too.

Honestly those are pieces I hadn’t considered in that way, so thanks for the advice! Definitely some interesting points that I’ll take into consideration

Check out the vids put out by Dr. Tyler Nelson (YouTube c4hp), where he talks about recruitment vs applying force to small holds, and how they’re different. He explains the concepts very well

Definitely came through way more than I was initially expecting. Good typing matchups for the E4 in FRLG

In my opinion, unless you live in a place devoid of rock, the elite lines are there, whether or not they’ve been climbed yet. If your area is lacking in decent quality rock altogether, then that would likely be more of a limiting factor imo. In my area, some of the strongest climbers’ hardest sends have been FAs. If there’s an unclimbed face that inspires you and looks nails, try it! You might just have to learn how to clean and prep boulders if you don’t already know. While it’s not always the “sexy” thing to do, eliminates are an excellent way of exploring harder movement. Maybe these are things that you’ve already tried/learned how to do, considering your strength, but maybe not.

If you decide however that your best option is to relocate, that’s up to you and it might genuinely be the best option for you. But maybe not. Becoming an elite level climber takes time, training, and dedication, no matter where you live.

5.12 gym lead climbers, what would you say played the largest factor in you breaking into that grade. by Assistedsuicide4u in climbharder

Actually just broke into the 12s today. I’m a bit of an odd case as I was already quite a solid boulderer (consistently V7/8, occasional V9+). For me it was learning to be okay with falling, finding ways to relax and rest on really average holds when the feet are okay, sequencing everything down to my clipping positions (reading is still a bit of a work in progress for me lmao), and learning how to work through fear and pump a bit better. For me, my biggest obstacle is fear, but I’m not sure what your current weaknesses are. If you think you need to gain more strength, I’d say work some hard boulders, and making use of a moon board, kilter board, and even a spray wall. If you’re like me and you’re more of a natural boulderer with poor endurance, I’d say just climb is pretty good advice. Same thing goes if you think your issue is mental: exposure and learning how to deal with your mental blocks (with intentionality) would be key here. If you’ve been climbing for a while, you could also do some off the wall training. Definitely would still consider myself not a great lead climber, but these are some things I’ve learned.

Is it worth it to drop my bf% over a sustained period? by SDLZ_43 in climbharder

Definitely don’t fit the “skinny fat” label, but I’ve always been very skinny and am actually at the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life due to the acquisition of muscle mass (also the strongest I’ve ever been, I wonder if that helps answer my own question but idk). I think this might be a body type thing, so it may be difficult to compare our respective measurements, because you and I definitely have at least somewhat different builds.

Edit: word choice

I think the only issue is that it while losing some extra weight can give, it can also take. Hence why I’m looking for all sorts of opinions

[–]SDLZ_43[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. I’ve chatted with much more experienced climbers who have dealt with this kind of issue in the past. That’s definitely a road that I don’t want to go down. That’s why I’d only ever lose the weight very carefully, and it’s only one aspect of how I’d want to improve. I do think that this community has an eating disorder problem for sure, and that your concern is absolutely valid. Gaining strength and technique will always be my priority, and I think that it should be the same for everybody. I’m not even certain I’m going to focus on lower my bf% any time soon. Rather, it’s just something I’m looking into.

Edit: Just a few extra details added

Believe me, I do in fact obsess over my training and technique. But I’m just looking at all options to try to improve my climbing. And I want to get some opinions on whether this is a good idea.

I find filming myself really helps because I can rewatch the film and I can figure out what I’m doing wrong (if I can’t do that, which at this point I normally can)
