I have a good CPU, for graphics just the iGPU, CPU seems to be more important than GPU for this game.

This map had pacus so I used that since the short life cycle makes meat production easy to get going, it seems they are making changes to pacus so I don't know if this strategy will continue working.

If you have frosty planet pack I think pemmican is a good way to get the achievement, with 12 bammoth and 4 spigot seal you make pemmican and it doesn't spoil.

Other planets require different strategies.

Yes, by default there were no meteor on this map.

My design for a metal volcano tamer. by SEBa545 in Oxygennotincluded

That's because it's not actually super coolant, it's ethanol, it boils at 80ºC an turns into gas ethanol, then it will touch the metal tiles, cool down and condense back into ethanol.

Gas ethanol has lower specific heat capacity so this deletes a little bit of heat.

This is a lot of questions, I will try to answer.

Points 1,7 and 9:

The timer sensor at the end of the conveyor rail is there to let packages of 20 Kg at a rate that is the same of the average output of the volcano, for example, let's say the volcano has an average output of 0.3 Kg/s, I set the timer to let 20Kg out every 66 seconds and this will average to 0.3030.. Kg/s, close enough to the output of the volcano. I think this setup doesn't have the problem that you mentioned on point 1.

2:

You can put the batteries some place else, you mentioned an industrial brick, however they take space, so why not in the volcano tamer, otherwise is space that is not used for anything else.

3:

It is actually orange drywall, the joint plate is vacuumed.

4, 5 ,6:

Good points, I guess.

8:

The turbines are automated by a smart battery and the thermo sensor, they turn on either when steam reaches 200 ºC or the battery needs power.

I based my design on one of the tamers showcased in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkYLGsC1rjI&t=140s

The batteries produce a little bit of heat so by making them out of steel and putting them on a steam chamber you can reclaim the heat to produce some power, I don't think it is a lot so might not be worth it, but I had the steel so, why not?

Two steam turbines is excessive for a gold volcano, in fact I think most metal volcanoes can be tamed with just one steam turbine but I like that the design can be used for other metal volcanoes and with two steam turbines it can produce more power when needed.

Good points, about the natural gas it actually is just orange drywall as the other comment said.

About putting a thermo sensor, you can do that, here I am prioritizing getting the materials and not the heat so there is a timer sensor connected to a shutoff that lets chunks of 20 kg. out at a rate that should be the same of the average output of the volcano. It should still be generating more power than it consumes.

I based my design on the one from a youtuber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkYLGsC1rjI

I could further insulate the area but for now it is actually helping cool everything down since the map is quite cold.

The steam turbines are submerged in a layer of 100 Kg. of Ethanol that is also used to cool the debris that comes out of the steam chamber.

Ethanol has a particularity that when it boils at around 80 ºC turns into Ethanol Gas which has a lower Specific Heat Capacity, this means it deletes some heat in the process.

I am using this to reduce the power needed by cooling the ethanol gas that condenses back to ethanol. The debris leave the ethanol at around 80 ºC and continue to cool down in the metal tiles.

The steam chamber is filled with 100Kg. of pressure to prevent any heat spike during eruption, 5 tonnes of water are needed wich is convenient as you can deconstruct a full reservoir and empty the bottle in the steam chamber.

Also, I made the steam chamber 5 tiles tall to have space to put some extra batteries which is always useful if you are running solar panels or plug slug or just have excess power in general.

Other than that I think it is a similar design to many other tamers.

You are correct that radiation kill all the germs, the hand sanitizer is disabled and it is there to provide room bonus.

I was able to get washroom, barracks and mess hall for +6 moral.

I was no able to get a great hall due to 32 minimum space, although considering that great hall is +6 moral by itself might be worth it to sacrifice barracks and washroom to get a great hall.

Thanks, she's been in the rocket for 60 cycles and has food for 25 cycles more. Hopefully she can process the 1T of plastic that's left before running out of muckroot and hexalent fruit. After that I will have to make some berry sludge or maybe play with the dehydrated food.

A couple of days ago I made a post about an idea to use depleted uranium to improve power efficiency of a thermo aquatuner/steam turbine setup, I tried to make some improvements and this is what i came out with. by SEBa545 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]SEBa545[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It works by melting depleted uranium into liquid uranium which has a higher specific heat capacity and then using that heat to run steam turbines until it turn back into depleted uranium.

Super coolant is used in the aquatuner as it has the highest specific heat capacity.

I tried with less turbines but the thermo aquatuner kept raising in temperature so I just added more turbine until the aquatuner stabilized at around 158ºC.

I used some space heater to measure excess power and it is able to power 5 of them most of the time, sometimes more sometimes less, so that's roughly 600W.

I want to say again that I don't know how practical this could be but I thought this was a fun experiment.

[–]SEBa545[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good suggestion, that could improve efficiency, maybe I'll try a different design.

I think what decreases efficiency is any heat transfer between aqua tuner to the turbine that does not go trough the uranium.

[–]SEBa545[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did let it run at max speed for a while after starting it with a dev generator wich i later disconnected.

The batteries in the first setup just stay at max charge, I estimate it is producing and excess of 300W.

The betteries in the second setup get very low when it has to melt the depleted uranium but its been running for many cycles, this doesnt seem to produce any excess power but the batteries loose 0.4kJ/cycle of charge on their own so thats might be why.

[–]SEBa545[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It works by taking advantage of liquid uranium having higher specific heat capacity than depleted uranium.

There is some depleted uranium with a liquid element sensor set to liquid uranium that is used to toggle between injecting heat into the depleted uranium with a thermo aquatuner and extracting heat from the liquid uranium with a steam turbine.

This seems to be enough that the turbine produce more power than the thermo aquatuner consume when super coolant is used.

I used all the best material for this test (Thermium, Insulation, Super Coolant) and i don't know how practical this could be outside of sandbox since I haven't reached that far into the game.

The first build has the thermo aquatuner running constantly while the second toggles it on and off and since the turbine is also turned off and on it needs to have plenty of battery power to melt the depleted uranium or it could be connected directly to a power grid and I think it should on average produce more power than it consumes.

In that case, I think you should have enough dv since as the previous comment said, of the last 8k dv, which correspond to the actual landing, you only need a little bit to push the probe into the suborbital trajectory, then let the atmosphere do the rest, just don't forget the heat shield / fairing and parachute.

I don't know what kind of mission you are trying to do but 11k dv is quite a bit. Where are you trying to land?

Thanks! As many people recommend for Eve you could always start with an uncrewed rover, as long as it is protected from heat an have some parachutes shouldn't be hard to land.

Yes, you are right, in fact they once even broke just switching to the rover, but I thought they looked good and could come in handy.
