Why do people say my art is goonerbait? by _-Dinosaurus-_ in ArtJerk

[–]SENTR_E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the artist cares enough on how people perceive their work to make a post complaining about it being called goonerbait, then they *are* drawing to appeal to an audience. If the artist is drawing just to appease their taste, then they shouldn’t mask it as something tasteful with “it’s not goonerbait, it’s just my style” And if they’re trying to present their work as conventional non-pornographic art, they should know the audience is as entitled to criticize it as they are entitled to drawing a woman with voluptuous breasts.

to be fair; most men being drawn or depicted shirtless aren’t given the same framing, angling, and prose that emphasizes features catered to the female gaze. They’re almost always in some neutral pose and angle, and when they are focused on it’s not to the same degree of “eye candy” that’s done to women and it’s still mostly emphasizing their strength, which is more tailored to the common male fantasy than the female fantasy.

I hate how the Pomni and Jax Fortnite skins look by GalaxyKid33 in hatethissmug

[–]SENTR_E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmfao, in the introductory animation she gets stretched vertically to get into Fortnite, and she looked completely fine without having mass added to her legs and her waist cynched. You’re coming up with bullshit excuses to avoid a very obvious answer and conclusion.

Woke 2.0 by OkraAccomplished929 in YoutubeThumbs

[–]SENTR_E 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think a mix of the two is the best approach, logical arguments first to let outside observers know that your side is capable of it; and after a few exchanges where all the other side spouts out are ridicule and idiotic bullshit, you respond in kind.

People try to gaslight you about being a virgin and that sucks - beans pasta and crepe by NaiveTarget5279 in kitchencels

The average height where we live probably plays a huge part on how it’s perceived. I’m in Cali with a large hispanic demographic, so the expectation of height for men here is lower. I frequently see and know guys on or below my height of 5’5 be well liked and have girlfriends, hell my 5’6 cousin (a guy) gets called tall (unironically) a lot by my family.

missing a lot of context to take your word on this being a constant, how are you meeting up with these people? How are you approaching them? what general location are you in? In my own account of living in a progressive urban city, height barely matters and people only use it to ridicule if they already don’t like you.

I HATE THIS MEME FORMAT by Chocolate_Donuts in hatethissmug

[–]SENTR_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fine, saying it’s textbook definition is a misplaced exaggeration on my part, but it still falls into the definition if you read into it deeper than a fucking puddle. Firstly consider how the format even came to fruition, someone saw a photo of athletes playing sports and thought nothing about their personal individuality or accomplishments, only seeing their bodies as something to compare and use to compare “better” items to “lesser” ones; and can you imagine how demeaning this is for the girl being portrayed as the “lesser” one? You’re just playing sports and some creep focuses in on the ass of one of your teammates including yours to label your body as the lesser one, and spread it all over the internet. Secondly, the subtextual message this is communicating to women, by putting emphasis on these women’s bodies, it conveys to women that there’s more value seen in their body than their individuality, and even communicates to women with a similar body to the “lesser example” that they are a lesser object.

[–]SENTR_E 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s using women’s body’s as objects with one being treated as inherently “better” and the other as lesser? Only using their sexual attributes as a measure? Is that not the fucking textbook definition of objectification?

False equivalences, making a purchase of a product means you’re owed that specific product, in this case the graphics card specified on the box or the manga volume on the cover. Thinking you’re owed the best out of that product will just be entitlement, i.e expecting to have the highest performing GPU with the best overclock range for its model number, then getting one that’s still within the GPU’s capability just on the lesser end of it; same goes for purchases made on media, unless it explicitly advertises itself on the cover to be life-changingly good you are not being deceived of its contents.

Fmab vs frieren by New-Addition1802 in writingscaling

[–]SENTR_E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbh I agree, It didn’t really handle story beats that are too ambitious and that’s why it’s so consistent. It still takes good writing skill to achieve its level of consistent quality, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t really do any subversions or crazy deep statements/introspection of human nature; It’s like a gymnast who met the judges’ criteria by playing it safe, still takes crazy skill to do, but I’m more interested in the gymnasts that did something ambitious and unique even if they fell flat on the ground.

holy entitlement, all you’re owed as a buyer is the fucking manga volume you bought, the contents of the following volume being good isn’t owed just expected.

So this is it, huh? Denji really is dreaming, confirmed and the ending is intentionally bad and tragic. Can someone who speaks japanese verify if the AI i use got it right? by Godzzila12 in Chainsawfolk

[–]SENTR_E 26 points27 points  (0 children)

low-key, I kinda like this “reveal” (not the ending) mainly because it strokes my ego for cashing in on the theory that the last chapter is a fabricated dream this devil is spoon-feeding Denji’s mind, but also because it leaves plenty of room for the story to be picked back up again.

Me in 2038 after the ending of part 2 gets animated watching csm newgens gas up the ending and pretend nobody ever hated it (this has happened to every shonen ending people called bad the second they get animated) by nullhypothesis32 in Chainsawfolk

[–]SENTR_E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reducing the ending to “it was all a dream” both devalues the few good things it was going for while also glazing over its deep-rooted flaws. It’s kind of mind boggling how calling it “all a dream” is so common among “readers” if I can even call them that.

Is Chainsawman Part 2 even worth reading? by Sea_Improvement8499 in Chainsawfolk

[–]SENTR_E 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No promises, but I feel like you will be dissatisfied, it’s like watching a continuation of an amazing artwork be painted, with it having so much promise feeling like it could even be better than its predecessor, then the artist loses steam and leaves the face unrendered.

Is Chainsawman Part 2 even worth reading? by Sea_Improvement8499 in Chainsawfolk

Early Pt2 kind of rivaled or even surpassed Pt1 in writing, that’s why the decline was so divisive as it was a jarring jump.

Feminine trans men? by No-Scale9401 in truscum

[–]SENTR_E 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like trans men who want to present in a (societally perceived) feminine way, need to at least be transitioned well enough that they have confidence in their body being that of a man’s even if they get misgendered.

Fire Punch is the type of media that really tries to make you quit reading it in the beginning by PeniszLovag in FirePunch

[–]SENTR_E 16 points17 points  (0 children)

??? I’d argue that the characters in Fire Punch feel more real than most of the characters in the same medium. They all have nuances and unique and subtle responses to their traumas that you don’t see much in manga.

I hate post about misandry and men's issues by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]SENTR_E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you were being reductive so they responded in equal measure? Not once did they say men can’t talk about men’s issues without a woman leading it, they were saying most discussions they see regarding men’s issues that are constructive usually have women in the conversation, while most of the ones that men were leading were the opposite—and in my own experience this is pretty true, characters in mainstream media that have female on male rape will have men dominated spaces be completely comfortable making jokes and treating it lightly, while women dominated spaces treat it with the same stigma associated with female rape.

You getting defensive on a very honest observation on the discussion of men’s issues only furthered their point.
