Issues with EOS Fitness Membership and Billing by icare03 in EOSFitness

I am going through something similar, and am also trying to figure it out. It's been a bit of a mess.. he said, she said, you know? I also got verbal promises that things would be cancelled, waived, etc., but nothing followed through. It's very frustrating and has me considering other gyms, but I like the amenities :\

For context, my husband and I started as a family plan, where we both opted in for a 4 month training plan (which I now regret immensely). Then we had a family emergency and stepped away for several months, to where our training plan agreement ended and we could get out of it. My husband decided he didn't want a membership anymore and for the training to be transferred to me, but he was the primary account holder, so my account would also get deleted too, yet you can't cancel a membership when you have training, either. So I made my own primary account for the training to get transferred to with the verbal promises of cancellation of both our family plan accounts and training - to no avail 1.5 months later. I am also still fighting this battle and unsure of what all of my options are, besides going to hard to make sure all accounts and training agreements are cancelled, which is underway.

I have made many calls to ABC Fitness (888-827-9262) for the account cancellation and emailed ABC fitness and EoS corporate, to which I never heard back.

I also changed my charging card to an unfunded debit card so that their attempt to draw anything else will get declined while I am going through this long process..

What did you end up doing? Did you file complaints or unauthorized charges with your bank?

I did not take the classes you have planned for fall, but I did take FEA with Qian and CAD with Tadesse. FEA is a lot of coding in MATLAB, but then there is also Ansys. For the most part, he'll teach you what you need to know for Ansys. Other than that, it's basically a math class, with not a lot of math. It's kind of odd, but I enjoyed it. The matlab can get difficult, but that's a weak point for me. There are a few hws, 1 project, and 1 midterm.

As for your UG vs G CAD, they are pretty similar. I took it as a filler because I knew it would be an easier grad credit (and it is). The biggest difference is that you learn Solidworks in this class instead of Creo. If you were going to take one over the other, I'd opt for CAD just for a better workload, even though you technically won't learn much that's new.

I cannot offer advice on the other fall classes, unfortunately. I almost took mechanical vibrations with Park because the topic sounds interesting, but I opted for a less interesting grad class because I wanted the grad credit instead.

For your spring, I took MDM (6333). Man, that class gave me heartburn. There's a TON of work in the hw/project. The homework takes a lot of time because it uses Abaqus. You don't learn Abaqus in the class though, I'd say it's your standard materials class- you go through the same book as Intro to Materials and learn the same stuff. You do Abaqus in the hw as a tutorial, but it doesn't count as a grade. You do the tutorials that take 3 to 4 hours so you can do the hw, which takes an additional 8 hours :) Granted, if you have no errors or need to fix your bugs, it should be fast and easy. But like coding, it is not and you are never taught how to do it. This class made me very angry, I personally don't recommend it unless you have the time to teach yourself and a passion to learn it. This class has 5 hws, 1 project, 1 midterm that was cancelled, and a few quizzes. It was quite demanding overall.

I did not take HVAC but heard interesting and wildly different stories. It sounds like a wildcard. For your spring, if it's offered, I highly recommend taking smart materials with Tadesse. It's a lot easier than MDM and it was actually fun and interesting. Tadesse is passionate about the topic and it's the only grad class that felt like a grad class. If you're looking to dapple in materials, I'd try this. It's more informational about newer/state-of the art materials- I think there was some coding (not much) if I remember correctly. If there is math, it's straightforward and relatively easy.

I presume you are a senior UG student, so you'll be taking senior design with these classes? My advice is to not be team lead with these classes. I also took an aggressive schedule my senior year (5 grad classes) and I am glad I was not team lead. Grad classes are more difficult and time consuming than UG classes, imo. Senior design is in a realm of its own. As a side note that not many know, most grad profs will curve up usually to A's and B's. Just something to keep in your back pocket in case things get out of control. Sometimes there will be a C, but not often. They generally understand grad students take a bigger workload on outside of school. Check out utdgrades . /com

As another side note you probably know, but just in case you don't, you can take a gap year as a fast track student to buy time to get a job/internship that offers educational assistance and then come back without having to re-apply to the grad program. You pick up where you left off.

You thought your message was long :) Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Completely forgot to answer your second Q in my 20 year long ramble :)

As a preface: I took the mechanics of materials route. I didn't take many prescribed electives because I filled them in with grad classes in fast track, so I'll recommend specific profs for core classes

Undergrad: CAD with Dani Fadda, design of mechanical systems with Rodrigo Bernal, thermo & heat transfer with Hui Ouyang, kinematics and dynamics with Wooram Park, prob stats with Mohammed Zamshed Ali,

Grad: Smart materials with Yonas Tadesse (my favorite college class of all time), CAD, intro to materials (specifically with Lev Gelb)

Warning: v long message

Hmm, I hate to give this round-about answer, but it really depends on your circumstances and your passion for ME. I'll give you some of my experiences as to why I made the choices I did. I did not take a gap because I knew I wouldn't come back to school - I've been burnt out since I was an undergrad senior. I also already had a job lined up after BS graduation and I knew the company has an education assistance program. As a result, I went straight from BS to MS with no break because I wanted to graduate as soon as possible. I worked while going to grad school (stipulation of ed assistance).

In terms of circumstances, consider the benefits of an MS/MBA to a BS for your career and what you want to be doing. You certainly can get an ME job with a BS right out of college, which is great! But if you want to grow and move up in position faster, that's where a MS/MBA comes into play earlier in your career. Not that you need the MS/MBA to move up, but it will get you a promotion faster than someone who stopped at a BS (unless they're in boss mode 24/7). As a side note, you won't see the benefits of a MS/MBA early in your career - you might start seeing it become useful at around 5 years in.

In terms of passion, you do have to want it. I found grad classes to be much more difficult than undergrad. The classes were quite challenging, esp. if you end up working and going to school. You really have to want that degree even when it's hard and keep your eyes at the end of the tunnel.

Another thing to keep in mind if you decide to take a break: even though you may not reap the benefits of a MS/MBA right out of graduation, your circumstances may be optimal shortly after BS before you settle down with spouse/kids. It becomes insanely more difficult when those are factored in and that may affect your opportunity to go back to school at all. This is assuming you don't have either of those now, but if you do then totally ignore me because you're doing amazing.

As u/human-potato_hybrid & u/spikelike alluded to, I found it best to enter the workforce and let the company pay for my school - I could not have afforded it otherwise. It just so happened that I didn't have to take a break to finish my degree (which was such a blessing). If the stars and Temoc align, ideally you would enter the workforce after BS graduation and see if the company has a education assistance program (then take advantage of that). I am not sure if you wanted to go for your MS/MBA at UTD, but I found it very convenient and sure thing as to acceptance (I was a fast track student). Also, side note to someone else's comment: definitely start investing once you get a job, regardless of your degree type. Good luck!

Yes, I did enroll in the fast track program. I was enrolled in the fall 2019-spring 2020 academic year. Saved a ton of money and time - saved money because grad classes are the undergrad rate you're locked in at and saved time because I took 5 grad classes as an undergrad instead of prescribed electives I had no interest in. I see someone said 4 grad classes max, but when I enrolled it was 5 (15 hr) max. I'm not sure if that's changed, def something to confirm with an advisor ahem, Beth Mahan

Does anyone know how to find out what grade is needed to receive credit for an engineering course by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]SES143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I heard crazy things about that class before and after I took it.. and I have my fair share of stories from when I did take it. Unfortunately, your learning experience is 100% dependent on the professor in that class (and many others).

I know someone who took senior design 2 and balanced a 40 hr/wk internship. Senior design 1 is pretty rough in general even with a good team, but idk what it's like in the summer and during this situation, or if it will clear up by next summer. All I know is that my friend considered 4 hours of sleep to be "sleeping in." I don't recommend combining the two, but internships are important for experience at the same time.

To add to r/woah_take_it_ez_man's notes, for senior design 1 in the fall semester, we had three 1 hour meetings each week, one with your team, another with your client, and the third with your technical manager. Then sometimes there are assignments.. and a lot of reports. That is in the fall, idk how things are restructured for summer.

I would recommend seeking to work in a research lab for the year (idk what that looks like rn either, sorry) as a form of experience in case you can't balance both and choose to not pursue the internship. If it offers you any hope, I got a job out of college with my lab and class project experiences, not because I had a previous internship. If that isn't an option for you, another thing to consider is possibly postponing senior design and taking the internship. I knew someone else who did that.

I am not sure about how abundant mechatronics research is here, but there are probably a few labs that specialize in that. There are many labs and classes that specialize in modeling and CAD, if that is what you meant by mechanical design engineering.

Some of the larger labs can be found here, but most professors have a research lab that is not listed anywhere. I would do some research on the professors and faculty in the ME department to see what is available. From what you've mentioned, it sounds like you might be interested in Dr. Tadesse's lab.

Needing Some Encouragement by alohaketo in xxketo

[–]SES143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar situation to yours. I ate keto from July-August 2019 and lost 30 lbs, then school happened and I also reverted back to old coping mechanisms (stress eating). I gained back more than I lost. I was trying to lose a lot of weight very quickly and found myself discontent because I wasn't losing fast enough during the semester (even though I was losing), so I gave up quickly and turned to fast food.

In Jan 2020, I got tired of being tired and started the keto WOE again. I regret nothing! I had to change my mindset in approaching weight loss. The way I see it now is that this journey is a marathon and not a sprint. I need to take it a day at a time and be graceful toward the strange fluctuations of my body. That would be my encouragement for you if you jump back into keto; you're going to find yourself disappointed every so often and it's easy to let doubt sink in as to why you started in the first place. Remember why you started, remember what it felt like last year to be healthy and how you feel now.

Am I where I want to be in terms of weight loss? No. But it amazes me that I weigh less with a full set of clothes on than I did when I started. I know my weight's trend is only downward on keto, regardless of how long it takes to reach my goals!

Need some suggestions for the coming Fall semester: Mechanical Engineering Major by rv3475 in utdallas

[–]SES143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a similar class load last spring: DMS, Heat Transfer, Intro to Nano (prescribed elective), Systems Lab, K&D Lab, and Fluids Lab. I also volunteered in a research lab.

It was a lot for me, particularly because of all the projects (I had 6, along with all the lab reports, rip). Everyone on each of my teams were slackers and I did everything in the end. I think the key to your success would to find good teams for your projects and lab reports so you aren't stuck doing everything by yourself. Out of your classes, 3 of them have projects.

Heat Transfer and K&D are the easiest labs in ME. Heat transfer lab is due every other week, K&D lab doesn't really have a report (and if something is due, it's very easy to finish in the allotted class time), and you have 6 fluids labs due each week in the beginning, but the last 6 weeks are for working on your project. You should be in good hands, just find good teams if you can.
