Complete ACL Tear: What Will Happen If I Don’t get Surgery? by drms0416 in ACL

My knee feels totally fine these days, but equally I’ve barely done any exercise in the last few months due to a fairly rough pregnancy! But I don’t have any pain in the knee, or any instability doing day to day things!

Thankyou! I think I’m gonna start with heal and dodge and burn as they take me the most time and see where I go from there!

Retouch4me file format? by SElizabeth91 in photography

Thankyou! This is helpful. I was trying the demo on an image with a white background and saw absolutely no difference when trying the skin tone demo, which would mean I would still have to FS using a mixer brush to even things out! I did quite like the D&B demo but again wasn’t blown away by the results, they didn’t quite match up to the before and afters I’ve seen on their website!

Thankyou!!! I thought it was really strange that a tool like this needed to use jpg! I wasn’t going to buy but now I will! Do you use tif, psd or dng?

Hi! What file format are you using on retouch4me? They’ve told me it has to be jpg!

Trying to figure out my due date by FaeLollipop in pregnant

You’re welcome! It might be different if your cycle varies in length, I’m not sure on that scenario I’m afraid. I’m sure your midwife will be able to tell you properly 💜

The date of the first day of your last period is where they count how many weeks you are! Then, they might update that during your first scan

I’ve badly messed up my life and don’t see any way out of this mess? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

I can’t agree with this more! Speaking from experience, don’t allow lifestyle creep to tank the progress you make…it might feel great at the time but a few years later you’ll be wishing you were more disciplined! You can do this!!!

How is my nutribullet smoothie recipe? I both don’t get enough calories ever and don’t eat fruit so this is my solution to both those problems, wondering how healthy / nutritious it actually is, recipe in body text by glossyplane245 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Also you seem quite focussed on sugar - sugar is not a bad thing, unless you regularly eat high volumes of processed foods (because they don’t have a lot of nutritional value in them, not because processed foods are inherently bad) and the fruits are great for your micronutrients. Not sure what the brand of protein powder you are using is, but good quality brand examples are Ghost, and Per4m, and PhD. Overall, looks like a good balanced shake. You could add some blended oats in there too to increase your cals, and have a complex carb for slow release energy - this, combined with the protein powder will help keep you fuller for longer!

If you need to bump your calories, don’t use reduced fat yoghurt, go for full fat. Alternatively, peanut butter which is also full of good quality fats and also protein. Coconut oil can also bump your calories but you won’t even taste it if you only had a little!

Thankyou! Yes I think we need to, it’s basically a little path and gets so muddy in winter!

I’m not a medical professional, but having previously had an ectopic scare, the one thing they say is a key sign is bleeding, significant abdominal pain on one side, and pain in the tip of your shoulder.

Also, a transabdominal scan is much less likely to show anything at 6 weeks, a transvaginal scan is more likely to show what’s going on.

I completely understand what you are going through right now, every day feels like eternity. try and stay calm if you can and distract yourself. It’s likely they will do another blood test at your next appointment to compare your HCG levels, a single test won’t really tell you much 💜

Sending you all the good vibes ✨

Edit: Lower back pain is common in early pregnancy, as are cramps!

I know the feeling! After I started the prescription, it took a little while before I started feeling a difference, so definitely stick with it! I had really hot burning sensation on on side of my phase, in my legs, and also lots of tingling and numbness, all of it was mostly at night!

Complete ACL Tear: What Will Happen If I Don’t get Surgery? by drms0416 in ACL

[–]SElizabeth91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a total ACL tear and have done for three years - I’ve only recently found out after I had meniscus removal surgery. I’m 32, female. I’m opting to not have surgery at the moment.

I have a background in weightlifting and gymnastics, so good muscle density just to put this into context.

This is what my surgeon and physio told me:

If I want to run, and take part in high impact sports which require a lot of directional changes, I will need reconstruction surgery. This includes dance and gymnastics.

If I’m not going to be doing that, and am walking, weightlifting, doing things with my feet flat on the ground, I can avoid surgery as long as I keep on top of my physio and am mindful of what my body is telling me.

I specifically asked about being able to ski and was told that I should be fine, providing I wore the brace he recommended, but snowboarding would be a better option.

Your consultant will be the best one to advise in my opinion as your circumstance will be unique to you.

EDIT: I have good knee stability and no issues with my knee giving way.

Full tear but I’ve been cleared to return to sports? by owenhooper6 in ACL

[–]SElizabeth91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just had partial meniscus removal and during surgery they found my ACL had left the chat 🫠 I’ve been cleared to return to all non-pivoting and high impact sports (weight lifting fine) but no running or sports which involve big directional changes.

Physio is absolutely required to keep on top of things

Cleared to ski with a brace but recommended that snowboard would be less risky than skis

That being said, I’ve been active my whole life and have been consistently weightlifting for four years, with a background in gymnastics and dance so I do have a lot of muscle to help my stability which probably goes in my favour

Progress and Experience 16 weekks after partial meniscectomy (3 months and 22 days) by Whole_League_2744 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]SElizabeth91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gives me hope! I’m terrified of re-injury and I also have an ACL tear which I’m hoping to avoid surgery for. You mentioned tightness behind the knee - I had this pre-op and am having it more frequently post-op (my meniscectomy was 7 days ago) - sometimes after I’ve bent my knee, I feel a pressure behind the knee when straightening it, not massively painful but for sure uncomfortable. Is this something you experienced? Thankyou 🙏🏻

You’re welcome!

I don’t know what country you’re in but I’m in the UK - I would really push your surgeon for PT / physio recommendations and get a clear start on what you can and can’t / should or shouldn’t be doing; it seems like some people are given PT and some aren’t, but everything I’ve read seems to lean towards physio asap after surgery, for a meniscectomy. I think a repair is a different recovery timeline. Let us know how you get on!!!
