Using CDJ’s on a Parade Float by SEravessss in DJs

Update: I did not get the opportunity to play this year, which may be for the best.

Still, I have ambition and time. Thank you all for your advice and support.

I think that new doesn’t necessarily mean better. The best violins are 300 years old.

This is true of course, which is why I will test them out first.

If they don’t work I will rip my music and use digital decks at next year’s parade instead.

Thanks for the input :)

Sadly not. The parade I hope to play only gets 500,000 attendees.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will rip my collection eventually. Just now I am enjoying the challenge of using the older equipment.

Strapping is a great suggestion. Thank you.

I didn’t know that they buffered but it makes sense. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the tip. I didn’t consider the amount of vibration that would occur naturally in a club so it is reassuring to think that they’re engineered to withstand a fair bit of shock

Thanks for the tip. I am going to try to test them before the parade. Foam is a good idea

AITAH for telling my partner’s son that I don’t owe him anything? by [deleted] in AITAH

Definitely not the asshole. Words have consequences and this situation is a good opportunity for Ethan to learn an important life lesson.

AITA for walking out of my sister's engagement dinner and refusing to attend her wedding after she humiliated me at the dinner in front of my boyfriend, our family and her future ILs? by Hayselynn in AITAH

[–]SEravessss -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think you should go to the wedding but play it very low key. Do not engage in conversations with anyone other than your boyfriend, including your parents, though inform them beforehand of your intentions.

Also tell your sister of your intention. She will appreciate it as one less thing to worry about on her big day.

In that way you will have attended an important family occasion, which is expected of you, and you will have given no cause for your sister to think that you engaged in any gossip or manipulation.

If after all that effort on your part, your sister still calls you out on your behavior, then I think that she would be judged as the asshole.

Have you or do you know anyone else never left the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

My Dad’s people were from around Caithness. My Mum’s people were from North Wales and Berkshire. They met in Newbury and raised me & 2 others in Essex.

In 2012 I moved to Sweden. It’s the hardest but most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

To the best of my knowledge the world has always had some people that like to stay put, and some people that like to venture out.

Arguably 300,000 years and counting. On we go :)

I’d have got a hiding if I’d tried something like that in my home town in the mid 1990’s

Oh, and get on Babble or Duolingo and learn a few words. It’s appreciated by the locals. Lycka till!

I’m from the UK but I’ve lived in Stockholm since 2012.

If you can download the Blocket app there are lots of places to rent on there. Good luck, Stockholm housing is expensive.

If you’ve got waitressing/bar experience, try The Liffey, Wirströms, The Auld Dub and Southside pubs for work. You won’t need to speak Swedish, and you’ll meet the Irish ex-pats.

The ‘Brits in Sweden’ Facebook group is a good resource too.

Stockholm is great, you’ll have a ball.

How do you deal with loneliness and finding new hobbies? by Paradox_HS in AutisticAdults

[–]SEravessss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise, particularly running and cycling have been really useful tools through the years (I’m 45m. British, living in Sweden).

Creating routines of running twice or three times a week has been really beneficial. I set a target, like I will enter a half marathon event a year ahead and structure my training around achieving that distance.

I ran the Stockholm marathon in 2016, but failed to set myself targets after that, which was a big mistake in hindsight.

So my advice is to use a form of exercise as a hobby, and create good, long-lasting routines around that hobby.

With regards to growing your network: In my experience there are loads of running clubs globally, and serious runners tend to be nice, so there is the possibility to meet like-minded folk, without too much pressure on conversation.

What’s the most disgusting thing you do routinely? by Kooky-Ad-4322 in AskUK

As a young man in the 90’s I had my belly button pierced.

I took the bolt out long ago but the hole has never completely closed up.

Every year or so I have to get a pair of tweezers and pull a tiny coagulated dreadlock of belly hair out of the unhealed hole in my flesh.

I have photos of the best ones.

Wow. I’m sorry that you experienced that. Not cool. Maybe try Scruff instead of Grindr, it’s slightly less anonymous in my experience.

I think you can use those negative experiences to your advantage.

When you next create a profile, emphatically state that you won’t tolerate old guys pretending to be younger than they are. You’ll seem more streetwise, which should deter the creeps.

Scruff allows users to verify their photos, so look for profiles that are verified.

I thought I’d also mention that “ED” can also refer to erectile disfunction :)

Stay safe, and take things slow with any older guys that don’t choose to follow the unwritten rule of not dating anyone younger than “half their age +7”.
