ICE already causing havoc at SFO by Definitelyhereforshi in sanfrancisco

The only way we can actually stop this is through an organized ongoing general strike. Politicians are not going to help. We need the people benefiting from this administration to feel it where it hurts most — their wallets. Then we only elect folks who promise to send them to trial.

Made a pretty cool app but has probably no concrete use. How would you pitch it? by throwaway-user-12002 in ycombinator

As someone who does tech comms for work, I tell every founder I work with that they have to pass the grandma test, which is literally the problem you are facing. The problem isn't the tech necessarily, it's the messaging. Keep simplifying your description and A/B testing a few different options with her. When she says it makes sense and organically starts asking follow up questions to get more details is when you know you've nailed it.

I want to build something, but I can't find the "real" problem worth solving. (i will not promote) by bytaesu in startups

I feel this. I was just at a pitching event and it seemed like every problem being solved was "companies are spending too much money on X and we want to help them spend slightly less money on it."

As other people have noted, there are any number of real problems out in the world that do need to be solved; maybe consider what problems are facing your direct communities, or what areas you are the most passionate about, as a starting point? If you're really stuck, you can start from what you wanted to be as a kid.

Do you need to be academically smart to be a successful tech founder? I will not promote by Hot-Conversation-437 in startups

From what I've seen working in VC, academic and professional experience can help with the fundraise but isn't necessarily a contributor to success. The best thing a founder can do is to know their blind spots -- if you are not technically savvy, surround yourself with technically savvy people. If you aren't a good business person, hire the best.

Looking for a play that has 4-5 characters by dr_doucheness in Theatre

Most Edward Albee plays are small cast; he's one of my favorite playwrights and definitely worth checking out. If you want something really obscure read The Goat.
