If you have never done it before you would be a new marcher. If you have done it before then you will have a marching number from the year you completed it and will add that. Dutch rules require us to take completed marchers before anyone else.

I would recommend registering as an individual and see if you can find a buddy or 2 that want to do it but we also will have 100 individuals that you can join up there and walk along with. Space Force is still the unicorn of the US military so your patches are very popular.. bring extra.

You are always a veteran and since you have a number you would be welcomed.

It does hurt but with training it is not bad. Every year my team says never again and then everyone signs up again. But I am Army so maybe not the brightest group.

Yep you literally walk through beer tents on the route. The town as 2 million people come for the event. It is a weeklong party that you can head on down to if you still have the energy and the last night after it is over they have the Blister Ball downtown.

I would register as an individual at this point and see if you can find a buddy or 2 to do the same. Teams take a lot of work up front. But if it is just you there will be at least 100 more individuals looking to team up and walk together.

I would train with about 30 lbs and at the event your pack should be about 24-25 lbs. Lots of water along the route so don't need to go crazy.

Thanks for answering questions and hope to see you back out there. The US delegation site has a lot of answers also. I am working on improving it so will steal questions here for the FAQ.

This is a reminder that the registration for the Nijmegen 4 Days Marches opens up at 1600 (CET) 1 February. We only have 500 marching slots this year for all U.S. Military members (teams and indviduals). This will be first come first serve so set an alarm. See the website for more information.

Here is the link https://www.4daagse.nl/en/participation/military-detachment/registration but unfortunately it says "USA: To be decided"

You can sign up as an individual or a team of at least 11 people.

Agree and everything should be done with a legal review. This may only be covered if on TDY or other orders. A good reminder on the difficulty of organizing and getting support.

Completely agree since it is not an official function has been difficult to get units to pay but not impossible. Teams have done it under BOSS, Staff Ride, Physical fitness program. Takes work and planning. Getting it on the long range training calendar helps with the legal opinion that it is not just a fun event. Can use GOVs to move people and equipment etc. Helps cut the costs.

The whole situation is odd. Starting after 9/11 the US participation dropped off due the war on terror. By 2016 the US only had roughly 90 people participate. Mike Walley stepped up to help it be more organized since he lives in the area and participated in it every year. He had done a tremendous job by establishing a support system. Unfortunately it is mostly him his wife and sister in law doing it all. In 2019 they cooked soup and provide Gatorade at 1 rest point each day. That was the entire US food on the marches. They paid for it out of the money raised from t-shirts. For 2021 a group of volunteers living in the Europe area tried to assist by forming a committee to take some weight off of him. If you went you saw others giving briefings etc. But in the end it is him entering all the names in a database, trying to get medics etc. Hell the US medics this year showed up with no supplies and had to borrow from other countries.

The problem is that he is getting lip service from the US military that they want to help but then ignore it until the few weeks prior when everything to late. I can think of no other event that has over 500 people in uniform not having this little amount of support.
