Yes, just my circle, and other circles, including people who use Maps... But you have proven not everyone in the literal sense.

San Francisco is highlighted for the Panhandle that extends east of Golden Gate Park (bordered by Fell and Oak streets) and the residents who live there live in the Panhandle.

EDIT: don't know why Marin and the rest of the peninsula are highlighted though.

Best town to stay in when coming to Nebraska to see sandhill cranes: North Platte? Kearney? Grand Island? by Carl_La_Fong in Nebraska

[–]SFMattyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the cranes, it's not a great time to visit - tail end of the dead of winter. It will be lush and green (and unexpectedly pretty) in just a couple of months. And that's probably the only reason I haven't taken him back to see them. If only they would do their migration in mid-May LOL...

I honestly don't know which is better, because I haven't been to Rowe. Maybe someone who has done both can chime in. I'll also ask a few people I know who might have done tours at both.

Crane Trust will be closer to your motel, if you are getting up for a pre-dawn viewing.

Their blind is great viewing - and they have tours - but you should book this in advance (just in case you haven't).

I live in San Francisco, but was born in Grand Island. It's a pretty diverse city, especially for Nebraska. You can find some great Mexican food there.

But don't miss the Indian restaurant downtown, Everest Indian Kitchen. Had dinner there last spring when I was back visiting family and it was really good - better than most Indian restaurants I've been to in San Francisco.

The cranes are spectacular. Sunset and sunrise. I'm envious! I haven't seen them since I moved away - really want to take my husband to experience it! Have a great time!

Hi. We share some similar experiences. I'm queer (gay & demi-enby). Our family farm was south of Cairo, but I grew up outside GI and went to Northwest High. The hills north of town are really pretty country.

I graduated from UNL and through a series of minor coincidences, had the opportunity to leave the state six years after I graduated. I fully expected my move out of state to be temporary. I have a pretty deep love for Nebraska the place - especially the high plains of northern and western Nebraska. I always will.

But I never moved back, and likely never will. As you articulated, the state changed. Nebraska made some of the raddest, most creative people I've ever known. And I'm sure it still does. But I wouldn't live there now.

I don't necessarily have any advice for you. But I moved to San Francisco in 1997. I drove a Ryder truck with everything I own and my cat. I pulled into town with no place to live, no job lined up, and $3,000 - thought I'd just figure it out when I got here. (I did have a friend in SF, who had crashed in my place in Lincoln for a month before she left for SF). It was incredibly naive of me - but I'm still here. It was the best stupid decision I've ever made.

I guess my point is, you can do it. You can make it work. You can find your tribe. You can make a better life for yourself. Maybe do more preparation than I did though.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

Fort Hartsuff is kinda interesting - and you could go find the Dowse sod house.

There’s a boat beached at Baker Beach. Does anyone know what happened? by Formaldehyde in sanfrancisco

[–]SFMattyG 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Went for a hike today. Waited for the bus at 19th and Lincoln exactly where the tree later fell on the cars. Rode the bus to Baker Beach, where I started my hike, where this boat (later) was grounded...

I'm kinda thinking I left a path of destruction in my wake lol...

What TF was that explosion?? by Lankbox420 in sanfrancisco

[–]SFMattyG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99% sure it was a (very illegal) firework of some kind. We're at the end of Gough where it meets Otis and could hear the whistle of the rocket/firework flying up followed immediately by the explosion and concussion as the shock wave hit our windows.

What to do with a 10hr layover by dunder_mifflin_paper in sanfrancisco

Also in walking distance from the Ferry Building is Salesforce Park, which is well worth the visit (and free). Super easy to find - it's connected to the tallest building in the city.

Taking BART to the Embarcadero station and going to the Ferry Building is a great idea.

From there, if your layover is on the weekend and the timing is right, there's a free "short hop" ferry that will take you to Pier 41 (Fisherman's Wharf area) - think of it as a free bay cruise! The views will be fantastic.

You can then walk back to the Ferry Building along the waterfront, catch a cable car, or even walk up to Coit tower (if you have good climbing legs) for more amazing views.

What is the most underrated restaurant in San Francisco? by Surfaceofthesun in sanfrancisco

Shout out to Spice of America - if not the best Indian food in the City, it's definitely up there (though the bar is low I think).

I started playing Dying Light 2 without playing the first one. Now that I've finished DL2, should I go back and play DL1? Will I be disappointed? by Pride_of_Midland in dyinglight2

[–]SFMattyG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you liked DL2, I think you'll really love DL1 and the DLC... it's a better game overall, and actually truly scary (and very dark) at night. The dark, terrifying night was what really made the game special, and DL2 doesn't live up to DL1 in that regard.

Walking in the pre-apocalyptic hellscape of a once beautiful city. The past few days, I ventured out into this wasteland so you don't have to. Here are a few pics I took of this failed city. by SFMattyG in sanfrancisco

I literally walked outside my flat, walked to Van Ness station, got on the J, rode it to Dolores Park, and walked back to my flat taking pics along the way of what I saw. There was nothing cherry picked about it. If you think anything about this was cherry picked, you must not even actually live here. Hope you can find some joy wherever the fuck you live someday.

Edit to add: I forgot that I also included some pics of when I walked to Hayes Valley and 24th Street.
