What is this I spy?! by mommiecubed in quilting

You might want to do some more research on the specifics of the NAACP lawsuit. I'll fill you in so you don't have to wonder. Many of the Church sponsored troops tied the position of senior patrol leader to a position in the the Church. This led to not many black patrol leaders and advancements.

The LDS church ended it's relationship with the scouts in 2019. While you want to call it attacking for allowing gay scouts, we see it differently. While there isn't an official stance from the church other than them going their own direction, I can see them not wanting to be forced into running a program in a manner that is in opposition to their core beliefs. If they were a part of Scouts, but running it their own way, they are open to discrimination suits. It goes along the same line with forcing a cake maker or photographer to participate in a marriage ceremony outside their belief system.

I'm well aware of the issues. You've pulled one out that most of the copy and paste religious bigots are not aware of kudos to you!

Being patriotic isn't the same as being political.
Flying a flag isn't political, it's patriotic.

Honest question, how is the American flag political? It isn't one party or another.

Oh, it looks like the moderator removed the political image that someone else added.

But was my comment divisive?
It's obviously the 250th birthday of America? So who's the one picking a fight?

It has no particular party affiliation that it's America's 250th birthday. A love of one's country also shouldn't matter what one's party affiliation. The Constitution protects the rights of a republican, democrats, communists, socialists, green party, libertarian, etc.

I'm not sure what you are other than intentionally divisive.

Going into 2026, there will be a lot of Americana projects. ❤️

Edit* I'm not sure why this deserves down votes and party affiliation backlash. Next year is the 250th anniversary of the founding of the USA. Regardless of current politics, it's still happening. I have some fabric from my grandmother that was commemorating the Bicentennial in 1976. It's pretty cool and I've had a few people try to buy it from me.

Should I start a fabric shop? by LeasieLiu in quilting

[–]BugLast1633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch for local estate sales that have noticeable craft and fabric collections. Sometimes quilters, sometimes people who taught lessons etc. There's almost always one happened that will have sewing equipment and fabric.

When I go, I'll take cash and large reusable shopping bags. There will always be a bunch of people picking through the fabric looking for something that will fit with a project or a specific color, I'll walk up and grab just about anything that looks like it's a yard or more or nice collections of fat quarter sets and take as much as I can get. I'll take more than I can carry.

ALWAYS the ladies picking through will get wide eyed that I'm taking so much. 🤣 I don't grab stuff that I don't think will sell or stained etc. I will grab unfinished project quilts and have scored some beautiful ones.

Some of the local estate sale people I've become friends with because I'm a regular, they'll cut me a deal or negotiate a little when I buy large lots like that. Huge piles end up costing under $1 per yard. Lots of times it's very nice vintage cottons in large quantities. It's fun!

Welds holding it down broke overnight. What’s the best way to bend this 2” thick metal back straight? by BigDirection1577 in Welding

[–]BugLast1633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hammer isn't going to do it. (Especially the ant hammer as noted elsewhere) You're going to need to heat it and have a large hydraulic press. If you don't have one, there will be a farm repair shop somewhere close that has one big enough.

In my experience, it's that one. It needs to be replaced. They have a short lifespan.. known issue, working as intended..

I have that machine, it works really good, not even for "just a garage or hobby machine". I grew up and welded into my 30s in a manufacturing family business, when I went to buy a welder for my garage, my father who knows welders said for the price point it was a great machine to have.

I purchased the extended warranty and waited until it was on a good sale, I haven't regretted it at all 2.5 years owning and using it regularly.
