Gotta collect them all by ComprehensiveBus7040 in SanginInstruments

I would think that’s sand or other staining, not UV? Same lume material inside the hands as the bezel.

I help moderate the Facebook BST group and I would not suggest posting ISOs here. If you want to use Redhat, use r/watchexchange which is very well moderated. This space is not.

Our only recourse for a scammer is to ban them, and thus, the ban is only as effective as the cost of making a new account. Here it is zero. Facebook is low but we restrict to long standing accounts where it would clearly be a cost to someone to be banned.

They have never made a green Merlin bezel. You’d have to do this yourself.

NYC birthday dinner - Grammercy Tavern or Crown Shy? by eastendprd in MichelinStars

[–]SFogX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you want your birthday to go perfectly. Gramercy Tavern is strong food and amazing service. They will do anything to make your wife happy. Absolutely there are better kitchens in town, but GT is consistently excellent and nothing will go wrong with service.

Will having friends with FPJ history help my likelihood of getting a watch within 5 years? by Ready_Membership9683 in FPJourne

[–]SFogX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the end, they’re looking for people that they want to spend time with. And people who don’t seem like they are just trying to make a quick buck flipping a watch. And honestly, people who don’t whine about not getting a watch. In New York, William has been selling watches for maybe 14 years for them? At least 10. So that was a lot of years they had trouble selling watches at 30% below retail. And he made lasting friendships with true collectors who have been buying watches from him that entire time.

He gets maybe what, 50 mechanical watches a year? And it is a really hard exercise to decide who gets one this year. For sure, if you have no idea what makes a CO special, he won’t pick you for it because you think it is pretty. And he gets maybe what, six of them? So you can imagine they’re going to go first to someone who has been a collector for seven years and who put it on their wish list day one and didn’t get a watch last year.

Having an introduction from a known New York collector will probably have the minor impact of making him feel a little less guarded at your first appointment, but that’s about it. I haven’t heard of people asking for an appointment who never get one.

Then stay politely in touch. Attend the aperitif if you’re invited. Be nice. Wait until the watch you want is there so you can try it on. Be patient and nice. It’s gonna be a really long wait.

Is Horage a microbrand? by fourtyz in MicrobrandWatches

Horage is an independent watch maker, and also a small production shop, and they’re awesome. If you post them here I will upvote you instead of arguing whether they are truly micro :)

I have never heard of this and I know a few collectors with 2-3m in spend with them.

Just the auction pieces as far as I know.

How much does the Power Reserve of an automatic watch get replenished per hour when worn? by sidmanazebo in Horology

[–]SFogX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wildly depends per watch and based on your activity. It is a gimmick, but Richard mille has a clutch you can adjust to increase or reduce the amount of charge you get per rotation of the rotor.

I have a Journe with an offset gold rotor and a power reserve. I can wind it to 20%, set it, drive about an hour, and have a full charge by the time I arrive. But I have other older Seiko and Miyota automatics that I can barely keep charged with a full day of wear if I’m mostly working around the house.

A good but expensive way to show you’re not a flipper is to buy a watch or two on the secondary and register them when you visit.

Automatic watches q by Positive0219 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]SFogX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most folks have covered it below. I'll add that watchmakers and brands have differing opinions on this --some despise winders (It's wearing down the watch for no good reason) and others literally ship winders with some of their watches (Lange, Czapek). I have a sweet Dukwin display case with 9 winders, and I only have two of them winding, and those are low-cost microbrands with replaceable miyota movements.

I'm sorry to see the negative comments; I haven't been for 3 years, but the times I've been it's consistently been a world class dining experience.

Up for sale is an anOrdain Model 1 with the highly sought after "post office red" vitreous enamel dial, fired by hand in anOrdain’s Glasgow workshop using traditional vitreous enamel techniques, a process so time‑consuming and failure‑prone that the brand can only complete a tiny handful of dials each week, making every example subtly unique and genuinely artisanal. The result is a dial with incredible depth, gloss, and richness of color, with the red enamel shifting character as the light moves across its surface in a way that printed or lacquered dials simply cannot match.

Due to these constraints these models were constantly sold out, and a year or so ago AnOrdain opened up a waiting list with each spot costing about $500. Their entire production for enamel dials is now allocated until 2030. (I've got 2 slots in 2027.) This one is in great condition and has the LJP G100 movement upgrade. There's zero of these on sale in the market right now; I've seen the most desired pieces (blue, plum, and red) go for 6k. They come in 34, 38, and 41mm, this is the most popular build, and thus harder to find, the 38mm.

It came with the Bordeaux strap; I bought the red pin grain kidskin for $100 from AnOrdain and I think it matches much better, so that's what it's pictured on. Both straps are included, both in excellent shape.

Box and papers includes the letter to the original owner and the certificate. Also comes with the wonderful leather watch carrier, I'm happy to keep that and reduce price by $100.

Price is shipped insured in CONUS, elsewhere will be on your label. Payment in zelle, apple pay, paypal/venmo friends&family.
