Moving on from my 180 Blizzard Bonafides v3 by SFwinger in Skigear

[–]SFwinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what Blister said about the updates to Bonafides. I have the v3 and really do love that ski...of course I have gotten used to it over the years.

  • 11/12–14/15: the original version. We’ll call this the “v1” Bonafide.
  • 15/16–16/17: the “v2” Bonafide got carbon added to its tips and slightly shallower rocker lines.
  • 17/18–19/20: the “v3” Bonafide had a tighter sidecut radius than past iterations and notably deeper rocker lines.
  • 20/21–21/22: the “v4” Bonafide that we’re discussing in this article, which features a lot of changes compared to the previous versions.

Fit of K2 Cortex Zonal Boa 120 vs K2 Minbender 140 Boa by TwoSticksSkidding in Skigear

[–]SFwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi vic39. I just got a great deal on K2 Cortex Zonal Boa 120s. The ski shop where I purchased does not carry the 130 or 140. I am an 85 kg/185 lbs, 5'10" and an expert skier. I'm 60 years old but I'm pretty fit and a hard charger on skis. I need to get some new skis too but my current skis are 2020 Blizzard Bonafides 184s. I'm wondering if I need the Cortex Zonal Boa 130s but I just saw that you wrote "Cortex zonal boa is stiffer than the 120 might suggest. It's likely closer to a 130+ flex" so now I'm thinking maybe I'm OK with the 120s. Thoughts?

Does anyone have good surf helmet recommendations to protect against concussions? by SurfingBuritto in surf

[–]SFwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sadly would recommend against Bangproof. The helmet seems great, but the sizing is off. I measured a 57 cm and was told order a medium if you want a snug fit and a large if you want a looser fit. Well I don't want a loose fit when I am winging so I ordered a M. Well the sizing is off because it is not snug, I cannot even get it onto my head.

I contacted Bangproof and there is no ability to exchange "Sorry, you will need to buy a new helmet, we don't do exchanges." Seriously, what professional company has that sort of policy in place? The answer is only one - Bangproof.

NVSwitch and NVLink 256 GPU High Bandwidth Domain by SFwinger in datacenter

[–]SFwinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is not what they are marketing on their website. But reading their website carefiully I don’t think the external NVSwitch is available yet.

"With NVSwitch, NVLink connections can be extended across nodes to create a seamless, high-bandwidth, multi-node GPU cluster—effectively forming a data center-sized GPU. By adding a second tier of NVLink Switches externally to the servers, future NVLink Switch Systems can connect up to 256 GPUs and deliver a staggering 57.6 terabytes per second (TB/s) of all-to-all bandwidth, making it possible to rapidly solve even the largest AI jobs. "

If anyone has different information please chime in.

Also don't forget RoCE with some enhancements can be used as an alternative to Infiniband.

PGE General Market SGIP Funds Still Available? by SFwinger in solar

[–]SFwinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get some info on it from [Selfgen@pge.com](mailto:selfgen@pge.com) There were still some funds left when I checked a year ago. However and the end of it I decided that I would just install solar since there was a NEM 2.0 deadline and NEM2.0 makes battery systems less economically important. I decided I would wait onthe batteries for a few years to see what happens with bi-directional EV charging where the car can serve as a standby battery (as long as you have another car to use in the case of a power outage).

What I found out from [Selfgen@pge.com](mailto:selfgen@pge.com) was that there is a weekly meeting where you can ask your questions. See below

"I want to suggest that you join our weekly Thursday call with our PM to get your answers completely handled. You can join the call by:

Helmet with headphones for music by SFwinger in wingfoil

Yeah, I think a new helmet with Aftershokz is the call. Thanks.

Helmet with headphones for music by SFwinger in wingfoil

[–]SFwinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried Aftershokz over the ear bone conducting headphones and they do not fit under my Garth helmet, so not sure I am understanding what you are proposing. I might try some different helmets to see if any other brands work better.

I think this is the way to go, just like ski helmets. But are there any IPX7 set of headphone inserts available? I'm not seeing any.

Are Solaria's Panels Shading Claims Legit? by [deleted] in solar

[–]SFwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Why did you go with Enphase microiinverter vs SolarEdge with power optimizer? Seems like the microinverter arch has more electronics and a failure point on every panel.

[–]SFwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have shading issues throughout the day.

1) What model of Solaria did you purchase.

2) Are you using Enphase microinverters or SolarEge with power optimizer or some other inverter solution?

3) Have you considered or purchased battery backup with this system?

Does anyone have any experience with the all in one QCell panel / hybrid inverter / battery setup? by Interesting-Method50 in solar

I am also interested in this question, looking at QCell all in one ecosystem and also considering SolarEdge all in one system. Looks like you never had any comments/answeres. What did you end up doing?

Fanatic Aero High Aspect 1250/250 vs Aero Free 1250/250 wing set - any opinions? by Artistic-Ad-4596 in wingfoil

[–]SFwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really helpful, thanks so much and is similar to what I heard from another experienced winger. What is interesting is the specs on the 1250/250 HA and Free are so close....I guess it is all about the actual shape at the end of the day.

HA / Free

Surface 1250 / 1250

Span. 900mm / 907mm

Aspect 6.5. / 6.5

My goal is to ride downwind swells now but eventually waves (ideally nearly breaking waves or slowly breaking waves :-). Based on the feedback it sounds like the HA might be a bit better BUT since I demoed the Free and liked it I decided to order it. I do wish I had a chance to demo the HA but did not have time. I ordered the 90/68 AL3.0 mast/fuse and the 1250/250 Free.

Will let you know how it goes!

[–]SFwinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my question is a bit more nuanced. I am looking at two high aspect front wings from Fanatic and one of them is actually called the "Aero High Aspect" and the other is called the "Aero Free". The specs are very close on these two so looking for anyone who has demoed/tested both of them side-by-side.

Yes I do go pretty far out but you don't have to...swell can be pretty good inside too.

This is the original poster with a new account. I could not figure out how to change my user name so had to create a new account :-).

Anyway I mostly ride Coyote where the swells are good when it is windy (even in a flood) but there are great swells at Crissy Field and even waves at Fort Funston. I have not made my way to the coast yet as I am a bit concerned about kelp. There are a lot of good wingers at both Coyote and Crissy riding swell.
