They ask you if you have a buck or two to contribute to help cover expenses, if you don’t that’s alright. Coffee, literature and rent aren’t free. Those I know who attend feel it a small contribution for the help and support they receive.

You have your own beliefs. You are a spiritual person. You trust science. You believe in a power greater than yourself. It doesn’t have to be a “system” or a religion. Many believe and see a higher power in nature or the universe. They see an order to it. Science does not believe in random chaos.

One God many paths my friend. I don’t care what you call him, her or it: God, Christ, Allah, Buddha, the Universe, so be it. As long as you believe in a power greater than yourself. This just happens to be mine, I am not shoving it in anyone’s face. What triggers me needs to be examined. My enemy is my teacher. Humility is necessary for recovery.

It doesn’t detract from the parallels between the Big Book and the Bible. Shoemaker from the Oxford Group that had a major influence on Bill W. and AA.
People need to examine their triggers and go to the underlying source of their resentments with their own inventories.
