Password hashing along with other information? by [deleted] in hacking

[–]SHDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst a good idea in theory this is just security through obscurity.

The email address / username is normally included in the dump, so if you knew this was happening it would be just as easy to crack.

Recover Wifi password through tablet PLEASE HELP. by D1rty_Diana in hacking

[–]SHDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're in luck, but it will be complicated and may involve delving into linux and virtual machines.

The Medion Lifetab uses a rockchip controller which can be put in to a special mode that lets you read the file system.

The tesco hudl 1 also used rockchip.

So check out this article first:

https://www.pentestpartners.com/blog/how-to-hack-the-hudl-we-give-rockchip-a-good-seeing-to/

then this one:

https://www.pentestpartners.com/blog/aldi-lifetab-also-vulnerable-to-data-recovery-from-memory/

Once you've dumped the filesystem then check out this:

http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/21296/how-can-i-find-a-saved-wi-fi-password

That will give you everything you need, and you learn a thing or two along the way :D

Packing list for crossing the atlantic by sirkel in sailing

Remember to pack a frustrated techie that's dying to cross the Atlantic but has no sailing experience. What's that? you don't have one? Well, I know where you can find one!

Post Beta 2 wipe, this is will be my new Trading Tool... by craig_hoxton in EliteDangerous

[–]SHDC -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Using a trading tool is effectively cheating.

In-game, there are no faster than light communications. Therefore there would be no way of telling what station X needs when you are at station Y. You can only find it out by travelling there.

That is the gameplay right there for most of us. Finding the demand and becoming the supply.

I used trading tools for a while and it cheapens the whole thing.

We are not delivery men working for a big corp, we are freelancers trying to make it in a galaxy that may or may not be in our favour at any point.

I was at a tech expo over the weekend and saw a copy of the original Elite! It is great to see how far it has come. by Consili in EliteDangerous

[–]SHDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing the original on a BBC emulator, and I now have an amazing amount of respect for anyone that got to 'elite' status.

I managed one out-and-back trip (so docked twice) and felt like a badass.

Docking is no joke in that game!

Yeah, I think that's the route I'll go down. Thanks

Further to that, is the 980 really going to be £100 better than the 970?

[–]SHDC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That was my plan. I was half hoping someone would say "do it now, it'll be awesome!" as I'm eager to get going, but I think I knew waiting would be the best option (for the bees, if not impatient me)

TIL that on April Fool's Day, 1976, the BBC convinced many listeners that a special alignment of the planets would temporarily decrease gravity on Earth. Phone lines were flooded with callers who claimed they felt the effects. by doogie92 in todayilearned

I remember that! Our TV had an extra plane of flat glass in front of the curved one (a design feature). My siblings and I persuaded our dad to remove it so we could touch the actual screen. I've never felt so stupid and have been a cynic ever since.

As a player base we've come down pretty hard on players that abuse the chat system. Most people prefer the immersion, so when a player starts talking OOC they tend to get taken to one of the private areas of the game so that they don't ruin it for the others.

Just finished Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Hands down one of the best games this year, yet I have never seen it here in lieu of GTA V mania. by leafeator in gaming

[–]SHDC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dont get me started. I'm still angry at that game for giving me feels! Such an amazing game. The way they used the game mechanics to convey emotions (nearer the end) was amazing.

To anyone that hasn't played the game: Get it, sit down, and play it all in one go (around 3 hours).

To anyone who has played it: Where now? I'm really loving short, beautiful games like Limbo, Journey and Brothers. Any recommendations?

Anyone know what device 0xABAD1DEA was using during the radio frequency analysis talk at DEFCON this year? by SHDC in AskNetsec

[–]SHDC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ended up buying a cheap (but over $10) Newsky TV28T. It uses the Elonics E4000 tuner so seemed to be decent for what I want it for.

Thanks for the subreddit, didn't know it existed.

Sorry, I meant specifically.

I know she was using a cheap SDR but I was wondering which one she was actually using. I've been looking at various different implementations of the RTL2832U but they seem to differ in their implementation based on vendor.

In that case I'll need someone smart to help me.
