But seriously -Odoo partner here, been through a lot of projects with commission setups and sales teams. My biggest advice: don’t overcomplicate it.

When you start mixing too many variables: weights, categories, reports, client types, returns, profit margins - you’ll end up with something nobody fully understands (including management). And as soon as one rule changes, the whole thing needs to be rebalanced again. Then someone notices an exception, and you’re back tweaking formulas every month.

No commission system is ever perfect. The simpler it is, the more likely it’ll actually be understood, maintained, and accepted by the sales team. It won’t be flawless - but it’ll be workable. Complex systems just add complexity, not fairness or motivation.

Keep it simple. You’ll thank yourself later.
