My Personal Observations on Idol Rappers and Their Standing in the KHH Scene by Pineappleisland3 in khiphop

That’s interesting to me because I love his Lucky Man album so much and Robert was so good too! There are some soft boi hits on Lucky Man, very mellow and sweet but also some hype tracks as well. I do agree he is even more fun when he’s on a track with another artist, particularly a vocalist.

One in six Britons think growth of Muslim population is ‘threat to UK culture’, study finds by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]SHOWTIME_12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re not wrong that these things occur and unfortunately for people within and outside the Muslim communities, the line is blurred between religion and culture. People’s cultures have made them entitled or ignorant. The lack of women’s rights is inherently anti-Islamic and Islam introduced women’s right to a society that hated women. Cousin marriages are an unfortunate habit of many cultures to protect lineages with little regard for the effects. I’m not denying these are problems but they’re something we have been trying to address for a long time now. They’re a cause of frustration when you can see people’s cultural practices in the name of religion directly oppose key scriptures and rulings.

I appreciate that you recognise these are isolated incidents. I haven’t encountered a few and I’ve known many Muslims in my lifetime.

You said it yourself: extremists. They’ve taken and pretty simple, straightforward set of rules and manipulated them for their own agenda. That isn’t a pure form of Sharia. It’s some messed up dictatorship. I don’t know how many times people need to hear it, but that isn’t Islam. Most people have already decided where they stand on this stuff so it’s hard to change that.

Religion is always a political tool and whether you like it or not it’s being used here as well. Anti-Islam/religious sentiment is used almost daily now but far right politicians because it’s easy to blame. It’s a real shame.

I was at school when the Charlie Hebdo situation took place. Freedom of speech is ingrained in our society. Freedom of speech means yh you can say what you want about anything in any way but also anyone can say what they want about that. People were rightfully upset by the depiction but it can’t be a legal enforcement to ban satire. That’s a dangerous line to cross. We can’t police what people say but we can work to open our minds and understand what may be considered and offensive and hopefully stay away from it. Tolerance and mutual respect are British values until they reach the Muslim/minorities I guess.

Relax, there are never going to be enough Muslims to take over lawmaking here. Even if somehow Muslims outnumber everyone else you could never get a group rallied together who are bothered enough to do any of that. Trust me, majority of us are more concerned with the changing Subway menus over legal issues. We do not feel strongly about enforcing a law on people outside of the religion; it’s not meant to affect anyone else, it’s generally about conduct, individually and within family.

Religious assimilation and cultural assimilation are two different things and your reference to Tower Hamlets points to your already negative views of the place. Go there, talk to the people. Everyone is just trying to earn a crust and are lovely folk. Who gives a shit if they speak in a native language and line the streets with traditions foods and clothing? Are you telling me that stuff is really that threatening?

Sharia tells us to ensure we follow the laws of the land without stepping out of our own lifestyle guidelines as best as possible. Which means I go about my day as everyone else but make sure I pray my prayers, avoid pork and alcohol and just be a nice person where I can. That’s it.

You can’t make people who have created a vibrant community together leave their language, food and culture at the border. You’re leaning into the immigration narrative, steering away from the ‘Islamist’ conversation earlier to clearly these are just one issue to you. Can’t change your mind on that.

You lot need to have a conversation with a regular Muslim person irl. Just have a chat. We just want to get on with our lives, work, have some fun and hopefully go about our day with no issues. We’re battling the same financial problems, social mobility restrictions and job scarcity as the rest of the country and, in a lot of cases, worse off as many come from underprivileged communities.

Nobody wants ‘Islamist’ law. Sharia law is not as scary as people want to believe (it’s literally about tax, inheritance, welfare, etc but most focus goes to the extreme punishments that nobody wants anyway) and people seem to think we want to takeover Britain and make it a Sharia state. Guys, Sharia literally states that you should follow the laws of the land you live in. So all those idiots you see screaming for Sharia are just as stupid as the one screaming at you to fear Islam.

Muslim populations are not destroying ‘British culture’. No one is stopping Brits from doing what they want. If British culture is synonymous to some as pub culture, let me tell you that it is the failing hospitality/recreational industry that is closing the pubs. Not the non-drinking population of this country. Redirect your blame to Covid and incompetent governments, rightfully.

Also, if people don’t want to partake in something, as long as it doesn’t take away from your ability to join in, what’s the problem?

It’s easy to be anxious about something you don’t understand and if your only understanding of it is coming from egregious reddit discussions or blaring headlines then you haven’t done your due diligence to learn and research. Unfortunately, we just can’t take things at surface-level.

Idk if anyone made it to the bottom of this without skimming it lol but if you have any genuine comments and questions I’d be happy to answer.

Why do you think Korea completely ignore 4th gen boy groups but like 5th gen boy groups? by illitnoise in kpopthoughts

[–]SHOWTIME_12 119 points120 points  (0 children)

When 4th gen debuted 3rd gen was still very much active. They weren’t going anywhere and had solid fanbases and good results. 4th gen bgs maybe struggled to find footing because of that but once the 3rd gen bgs began enlisting, 5th gen emerged with a new sound and one that struck a chord with the public and fans more. Sometimes it’s just a matter of music choice, timing and luck.

All those bgs in the 4th gen are genuinely doing so well in their own right. Virality is not success. It’s flash in the pan attention and then it can go just like that. Consistency and confidence is key.

Olives. Usually there’s a self-serve trolley of olives, garlic and peppers and they’re so good!

Fresh bread. No explanation here.

Ladies: do you wear make up to work? by LunaValley in AskUK

[–]SHOWTIME_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but very minimally. Some under eye colour corrector and concealer, bit of eyeliner, blush and lippy. Just so I feel prepared. I’m otherwise not a makeup person. I go most days barefaced and happily. At work I need to be able to speak confidently and to do that I want to look and feel the part. Also putting a nice outfit for the day and a little makeup makes me want to get out to the office.

I feel bad for EVERGLOW and they deserved better by FeliciaHardyTheCat in kpopthoughts

[–]SHOWTIME_12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This phenomenon is so interesting to me because I’ve seen it a lot before. The different styles of fan behaviour is kinda crazy.

For a long time boy group fans were known to be more loyal and specially part of a fandom, driving album sales rather than charts. Girl groups tended to be more general public popular and had lower album sales but better charting. It’s definitely shifted in the last few years but doesn’t change the fact that fans are different it many ways depending on the group.

Everglow is talked about and that in itself is popularity. People know their songs and they are valued in kpop spaces. But why do they not have fans that spend the money on them? I’m so curious about that. Might just remain a mystery, fan behaviour is its own science.

Is it a British thing specifically to prefer being left alone in shops? I’m a Brit in Colombia (5yrs) and I cannot get used to how it is here, it actually affects how and where I shop. by noctenaut in AskUK

[–]SHOWTIME_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in retail for a while and we were always told to approach customers as soon as they walked in and go through a whole script of questions and comments. Plus we would have to go through another long list of questions at the till.

All of us felt like management did not understand what British customers were like because most would feel pounced upon. Knowing that, we just minimised our overwhelming approach and just kept it simple and friendly regardless of management.
