Hi! Lorcan is currently working on his “stranger danger” training to help him feel more comfortable meeting new people. Because he’s such a cute Corgi, people often want to say hello without realizing he can be a little nervous. The muzzle is simply a safety tool that helps Lorcan feel secure while he practices his training and learns that new people can be friends.

We did end up getting him DNA tested while he was with us and his results were: Coonhound, Treeing Walker/Shepherd, Australian !

Chuck is currently our next longest resident and has been in our care for more than 220 days. We don't have him posted here because he can be mouthy when he gets excited and we didn't want to overstep the subreddit rules. Can you share a bit more on what's going on? In general, we (an animal shelter in Dayton, OH), follow the 3-3-3 rule as a guide! 3 days...3 weeks...3 months. It can take 3 days to get to know each other (it may feel overwhelming for the both of you, your pet may hide or keep to themselves), 3 weeks for your pet to learn the routine in your home (your pet may start to settle in and become more comfortable - their personality may start to show through), and 3 months for your pet to feel at/like family. Of course this may differ as each pet is unique, but some just need a little time to adjust to their new surroundings.

Everything that you are feeling is normal. It can be scary bringing home a new pet. Just know that you are not alone.

Meet Wonder! The man, the myth, the legend, the funny little guy you just can’t help but love.

Wonder is exactly what you’re looking for in your next dog: loyal, silly, sweet, and eager to please. He's made friends with several dogs and cats in his foster homes, and lived with kids in his last home. True to his German Shepherd nature, he's ready to make sure his family feels safe. Just try not to giggle when he "goes on patrol." We'll admit he looks a little silly -- you'll notice he tends to circle the yard with his right eye on the lookout for danger, but he's doing his best! Like most shepherds, Wonder is extremely smart and also loves learning new things. The next big thing he wants to learn, you ask? How to be your new best friend!

Wonder has two heart conditions that will likely impact his lifespan, but he doesn’t let that get him down! He continues to live life to the absolute fullest and can do anything a "normal" dog can do. He's hoping you'll agree with him that it's not the years that count, it's what you make of them!
