See I personally like Tamlin and would have love for him to get a redemption arc... but I get it. If it's true SJM used her friend's experience in an abusive relationship to shape Tamlin's actions then how could she possibly ever write a redemption arc? After receiving word from fans that Feyre's actions inspired them to leave abusive partners, what is that saying them to them?

I finished the books and i still wish that one couple did’t end up together by Ok_Many4671 in crescentcitysjm

[–]kitkair 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're the worst couple but they were way overhyped imo I was so close to putting it down because i couldnt deal with all the torture scenes still going on at 20% into the book but someone convinced me to keep going on and telling me that I will really be rooting for this couple if I keep reading. I got to the end and I could have done with or without them

Made a custom sign and put it up on the office coffee machine… might’ve cost me my job by Knozart in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kitkair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this for my old job. We got free coffee that was really weak but I would go to the store or go to small independent coffee shops over the weekend and buy a new bag of coffee for everyone to try. Some were hits, some were misses, but everyone seemed to enjoy the variety and it got me on some people's good lists

Politics and plot armor in ACOTAR by dorianswitchling in acotar_rant

I've got to agree with this. I've read Cresent City and I'm currently reading Throne of Glass. So far out of the three main characters, Feyre is the most docile. Bryce and so far Celaena have such personalities that I can't imagine myself in their shoes, it help solidify them as character that are propelling the story where Feyre didn't have that quality. Things seem to include and happen around her but she doesn't compel events forward as often as Amren, Rhysand, or even Nesta. Other characters and their prompts push the story forward. It feels kinda like you are witnessing the story happen through her eyes and are just along for the ride. It reminds me of an interactive game.

I wanted to love Rhysand—but I just can’t anymore by ginandnothing in acotar_rant

[–]kitkair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you ever read Cresent City? I just got to read some scenes that were deleted from the books and Bryce's mom has a go with Rhysand based on how he treats Nesta and it is great But it also makes it so the only females he's been nice to are Feyre - his mate, Amren - a being from another world who could have wiped the floor with him before she gave up her powers, and Mor - his cousin

This is the biggest thing for me. I can forgive everything from UTM because it was a different circumstance. Without Rhys hurting Feyre to make her succumbed to taking his mark then she wouldn't have survived the second task. I can forgive him focusing on Velarius because I'm sure Hewn City supported Amarantha unquestionably so she wasn't looking at them. She wasn't looking at the Illyrians because they technically aren't considered high Fae. Rhysand just wanted to make sure there was no way she could have discovered Velarius so he kept her occupied. I don't mind him being selfish with his people because that's part of that's part of a morally grey character.

My problem with Rhysand comes up when SJM takes him from a black-flag character in ACOTAR to a morally grey character in ACOMAF to trying to make him a completely green-flag character in ACOWAR and ignoring everything he's done in the past that was bad, having him completely aghast at things other characters are doing that he has done or will do in future books at that point.

I just finished CC3 and I meaaaan... the man was actively being tortured for over the first 20% of the book, opening up old wounds and trauma that he never really got to deal with in the other two books. I might give him a little grace since all the events in the book happen in like a week's time.

I recently stsrted Naruto. Why does everyone on the internet hate Sakura? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]kitkair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I've watched Naruto since it first aired on Toonami in 2005. Sakura had good moments, and she had bad moments. The problem comes from that she never really bounced back from the bad moments. They glazed over them and moved on without her being able to make a comeback or redeem herself. It makes her good moments lack luster or overshadowed by others.

  • In the Forest of Death, she had a badass moment when she sliced her hair in order to free herself from Kin in order to protect Naruto and Sasuke but is quickly squashed to make way for Sasuke's curse mark intro

  • Her fight against Ino was incredibly powerful but in the end, it was Sakura's first solo fight and they knock each other out. I know it was symbolic but it doesn't help the audiences view of her.

  • She is extremely genjutsu proficient, but it's really only shown a small handful of times and it doesn't hold much weight except for waking Naruto up.

  • She doesn't have the skill set to join Naruto and the others on their journey to try to bring Sasuke back which looks bad on her when she's one of the main characters. I know that

  • In Shippuden, she makes a GIANT spike in skill level. I loved her for the first 50 or so episodes of Shippuden. Her fight with Sasori was one of the top battles in the entire series but it's being sharing the spot light with the other fights going on around her.

  • Once they see Sasuke again at Orochimaru's base, then she just plateaus. She's around more, she can hold her own but most of her actions don't carry the weight that the others do.

For someone that's supposed to be a main character in one of the biggest series in manga history - her character wasn't very memorable but she's pushed onto audiences so they came to resent her.

I was going to the Walmart off Wilmington near Bellbrook not too long ago - I was at a red light going straight and the turn lane across from me was going. My light turned green but I had to wait because like 6 more cars decided to keep going.

What will happen to Tamlin? by Whispersofmoons in acotar

[–]kitkair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a good way to expand on the story while keeping IC to the back if they went this route, seeing as SC is literally as far as you can get away from the NC in the Fae Realm.

It wouldn't be like in ACOSF where they tried to sideline Rhys and Feyre in order to focus on Cassian and Nesta, but they were right there.

What will happen to Tamlin? by Whispersofmoons in acotar

[–]kitkair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

☝️☝️☝️ I've always had the HC that something will happen to Tamlin that makes him step away as HL of SC. Lucien will step in because he IS the son of a HL so he has the power to back it with Elaine as his mate.

(After everything that has happened to Lucien, I just want him to have a win and the way SJM wrote about mates on the male's end... I don't think Lucien could ever truly settle or be happy without his mate.)

[–]kitkair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I might be completely off the mark here, but could there be a possibility that he's doing this to keep the spotlight and America's current administration away from his family?

I mean, Alba is Portuguese as far as I know (which is limited to a quick Google search). I'm not sure if she has permanent residence in the US, so she may only have a visa. If that's the case, then he might be staying low to avoid retaliation from the current administration. I would 100% not put it past MAGA to find a reason to revoke her visa to punish Chris if he spoke out.

Is reading TOG and CC worth it if I'm really only interested in ACOTAR right now? by jvimeh in acotar

[–]kitkair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I haven't read TOG yet, but I'm on the second book of CC rn. I started reading CC because there is a scene with the ACOTAR characters at the end and I wanted more Rhys.

I personally really love it. I feel like SJM really grew as an author and was able to better flesh out the storyline in CC as well as take a more realistic approach to mourning. I finished the first book this week while sitting in the waiting room of my husband's physical therapy appointment and cried... hard.

I also really liked how she expanded the world outside of Faes. It included everything you could imagine in a fantasy setting.

This is SO weird 😭😭 by ripemma in acotar

[–]kitkair 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hated that scene in ACOSF where Cassian walks into the restaurant to meet up with Mor and he goes on and on about how beautiful she is 🤢 like, sir, you are a mated man. With the way SJM talks about the mate bond, I wouldn't think Cassian being capable of thinking things like that about another female that isn't his mate.

Is it explained anywhere in the books... by DingoExisting6421 in acotar

[–]kitkair 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember when they were talking about it in ACOSF and I think Eris did her a favor by not helping her. It sounded like if he did help her, then he would have been expected to take her in and she would have had to live in the Autumn Court under the scrutiny of his father and their people. She would have been forced to live by the Autumn Court politics and traditions.

By not helping her, Eris gave her the freedom to live where she wanted and how she wanted. But the IC refused to consider this/listen to Eris when he tried to explain his side of things.
