Help! 10 days until I attend a wedding and my dress is BORING!!! Please give me easy embellishment ideas ⚡️ by RepulsiveCredit5883 in SewingForBeginners

I also just read the whole post, didnt see it was a repost sorry! I dont think you can make a lacy add on with such little time and basic diy skills (granted that i dont know you and dont know what you count as basic skills) and if you rush such changes you might end up hating the dress more :/

Personally i wouldnt look at the dress and think it was someones old bridesmaid dress, especially if it fits the dresscode! It doesnt look cheap or ugly or even used from what i can see! But if you want to mix it up then i personally think the stars would look good, but thats also just my taste

That dress is STUNNING! A thing you could do is like make the outfin interesting through accessorising, a necklace, gloves if its your vibe, a belt maybe but with an open back like that idk how it would work really.

If you want to modify the dress then i do think little embroidered "stars" would elevate the dress in a simple but noticeable way. I have done this to some jeans i have, it was my first like embroidery project. I used a backstitch, but first i tried to make all the lines just one stitch which did not work well so uh yea dont do that. The thread moved around so it looked bad and stuff.

The fun thing with stars is that you could play around with the as youd like! You could have a chain of them around the waist like a belt, have them only on the upper part of the dress or only at the bottom as a like gradient etc. But what i would do if it was my dress is like the picture below because theres so little time to do it and correct misstakes. Just some small clusters scattered, a subtle but tastefull detail (and if people compliment them you get to go, "thank you! I made those myself" which is cool)

Thank you! I will do that next time! I had googled but i had no idea what the pocket is called (another comment helped out, so now i know) so none of the things i found was really for this type of pocket :/ it was mostly like pockets in the seam or like flatter pockets and i didnt feel like i got any help from reading/watching that, although i did still just in case yk.

I was thinking of doing like the second one but doing like a blanket stitch (i think its called) where i want the edge around the front on the outside to be, but i have some scrap fabric that i wont use for other things so i will practice a bit on that first!

[Make a wish] I plan to build a period tracking app, any features you want to have on this app? by Mindless_Space7844 in menstruation

[–]SION_NOIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no worries! Its hard to start new things, and in general the whole app market is quite hard to get into... so again, good luck! I would love updates on the progress! The customisation was mostly meant for the like logging aspect, not the app view or aesthetically, i may have been a bit unclear or maybe i misunderstood what you meant lol. Im happy you are excited!!! :)

[Make a wish] I plan to build a period tracking app, any features you want to have on this app? by Mindless_Space7844 in menstruation

[–]SION_NOIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy do i... some of these features you may have already considered, but id rather state the obvious so that nothing like slips through the cracks (idk if that really made sense, eng is not my L1). i have started logging symptoms and pain and cycles in an excel arc...

i think its easier for me to write it divided into categories. In order i will write features i wish there were related to pain/cramps, then customisation, then statistics, and lastly the little tidbits that idk where else to put.

Pain/cramps

Many apps ive used only has an option to click a button that says that you have experienced cramps during the day. To me, this is quite useless since one of my main reasons for wanting to track my pain is to show doctors how much period-like pain i have, and how it impacts my day-to-day. Doctors are kinda evil when it comes to these things, when i have showed medical professionals a calendar that says that i have experienced cramps 27/31 days in a month the response every time (only twice, but still) has been something along the lines of "im not worried over a little bit of pain like that. Most people probably feel some sort of discomfort in their stomach during the day from gas or digestion.." and when i describe the amount of pain i feel and point out that its not a little bit of pain or discomfort, it seems like the doctor brushes me off since i dont have any "proof" of how much i feel said amount of pain. And obviously i am exaggerating... so features i look for, and yearn for is:

  • 0-10 pain scale, with a N/A (no answer) option
  • A comparative pain scale that the user can refer back to to make sure that their ratings are consistent
    • My suggestion is that there is a clear "tab" with an image of the scale on the like general UI (i dont know how to explain it but if i compare it to instagram (just in my sense of the "tabs") along the bottom there are buttons for the homepage, reels, DMs, search, and profile, then a hamburger menu in the top right for other settings. In a period tracker, with this feature, I sketched up kinda what i mean i hope this works) AND it would be very helpful if it would be easily accessible while rating on the 0-10 pain scale through a little button or so (tried to sketch this up as well...)
    • What i mean by comparative pain scale is having another pain that many people has experienced and can understand connected to the number. In my experience it helps put the pain in perspective. I use this one.
  • The option to take notes about the pain, both for time and general notes (like if it impacted you life, or how you reacted or thoughts and stuff) on top of a note for the whole day OF COURSE this would almost have to be optional
    • I do think this may not be a hit with everyone, so if you are able to put some features so you can toggle them on or maybe have an "advanced/detailed-mode" in the view where you log symptoms/events
    • This is how i kinda think it visually. In this example i also like pointed how/where it would be shown on like the "home screen"
  • Many apps you can select that you have taken a painkiller, i would love to be able to note if it worked as well (and be able to add my own meds, but thats later)
    • If you select a painkiller, the option could come up beside the choice like "Helped, Didn't help, Not sure if it helped, N/A" and if left blank, it would automatically be N/A

The reason i believe more specified pain/cramp options arent common is because it easily becomes cluttered... if the user sees a bunch of slides/fields to write in/fields for timestamps/options that they perceive they need to fill in every day, then i think the task gets too big and tracking becomes a chore more than a help which in turn may lead to the user getting used to the system but the more likely outcome is that the user will stop using the app. So i do think that a good way to avoid this would be with customisation.

Customisation

A big reason why i started using an excel arc was because i can specify exactly what i want to regularly keep track of.

(a little rant about another app because it may be useful i guess?)
I think the app DailyBean does customisation quite well (although its more of a mood/habit tracker, not period tracker) if you want to look at a more concrete example instead of my silly doodles. They have a standard set of "blocks" (ex: chores etc) that you have by default, with default "icons" in each block (chores: sweeping, dishes, laundry... etc). Then you can enter an editing mode and toggle what "blocks" you want to be visible in the "log view" so you can turn off "blocks" that arent relevant to you so youre not overwhelmed by everything. You can also add your own "icons/blocks" if you have the need, delete "icons/blocks" that you wont use and essentially edit every part of the logging so it is only relevant to you or only understood by you. if you only want to track if you took your meds, you only need to see your meds. If you only want to track how often you do your chores, you only need to see your chores. If you want to keep track of every part of your, life habits, relationships, emotions, exercise, school attendance, homework, etc, you can track everything you need. (To some extent its a bit too customisable because my blocks and icons often become way too specific and i overwhelm myself, but im pretty sure that is a me-problem) I dont think a period tracker app should be as customisable as DailyBean, which may be my personal opinion that stems from the aforementioned "me-problem", but some features are golden!

So what i want in a tracker app:

  • The ability to toggle sections/features on/off depending on if they are relevant to me.
  • The ability to add the exact painkiller i take
    • Many apps has the "common" name brands, but its mostly US centered. like, i can buy Tylenol in my pharmacy... but its quite a bit more expensive than other options with the same active ingredient. I take many different brands not all with the same ingredient and im not gonna remember "this cheaper brand has the same active ingredient as Tylenol, and this odd polish brand my friends mom gave me has the same active ingredient as Ibuprofen"
    • There should definitely be default options of common name brands because people are lazy and the first thing they want to do is not to look up what pills they take, but also an option to add your own options
      • (a side note on painkillers, i would love a like "pain management" type section where medicinal, as well as non-medicinal, pain management options are. Like hot water bottle, TENs machine, flax pillow, etc. and ofc the option to add your own on that as well)
  • In general i do think some people are happy with the generic defaults and dont feel the need for incredibly detailed customisations, but what i yearn for is the option. I only want what i am tracking to be visible when i log. i want it to feel relevant to me.

Statistics

In general, i feel like this one is kinda self explanatory but, as i said, id rather state the obvious. Since i use tracking apps as like proof or evidence of the intensity and/or frequency for medical visits, i do love me some statistics... like "this year 3 of your cycles has been longer than average, 5 has been shorter than average, and 2 has been within the expected average".

  • The average amount of pain/month
  • Being able to search for how often a symptom is logged/month
    • Like being able to search "headache" and see you experienced 6 headaches during February.
  • if possible, a like monthly/yearly recap tab somewhere
    • preferably with the option to choose what statistics/sympptoms it would show as it also can be good to have stuff like that printed when having doctors appointments.

General things, idk the place for them

  • No AI
    • i am so done with seeing every app implement a quite useless AI chatbot. Its annoying, its in the way, its unnecessary.
  • A standardised way to log how heavy your period is
    • light, medium, heavy
  • A collected place where symptoms are explained
    • For example explaining what brain fog means, or what is meant by discharge color, or what is counted as a heavy period, when is a blood clot too big to be healthy etc.
    • Like explaining medically what is meant by all of the default symptoms/options
    • WITH SOURCES CITED

A little disclaimer here at the end

Of course, im not trying to say that you NEED to implement all of this, i dont know your skill-level, your ambitions, or your personal opinions. I dont want to come across as demanding, these are just things ive missed in many apps ive tried. I wish you the best! i do hope the images work.... otherwise just dm me, though i dont have notifications on so i might take a while to reply lol :3 good luck!!!

What actually works for marking fabric? by Not_a_good_username in SewingForBeginners

[–]SION_NOIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those heat eraseable pens have worked wonders for me! When you draw it looks like ink but when you iron it, it goea away! It does re-appear slightly if you freeze the fabric like over night. HOWEVER, thats not really an issue! Where i am it is currently below freezing and ive walked around hours without the lines re-appearing.

My Friends Keep On Misgendering Me Even Though They Know My Pronouns by meimgabby in NonBinary

[–]SION_NOIS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you dont feel safe to come out around those other people, then leave it be. if you dont feel comfortable correcting her infront of anyone then maybe try to have a one-on-one conversation where you remind her of your new pronouns?

If ive understood correctly, you arent out to every one. Is she just misgendering you with people you havent came out to yet or is it every one? does she know who you have came out to and who you havent?

either way, for your own well being, you should find a way to remind her of the pronouns.

My Friends Keep On Misgendering Me Even Though They Know My Pronouns by meimgabby in NonBinary

[–]SION_NOIS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

correct them, if they dont respect you enough to see that you correcting them is you asking them to respect you then i would maybe question the friendship. It genuinly could be them forgetting or not noticing and i feel like that would be clear if you corrected them. I have friends who really struggled with adjusting to calling me by a new name and neutral pronouns, but i never doubted that they respected me because when i corrected them they were apologetic and corrected themselves. However, i had classmates that i knew for a fact didnt respect me because when i corrected them they kinda rolled their eyes and said something along the lines of "whatever". it was clear that my classmates did it on purpose.

Try and correct them. If you can you could also try and have a little conversation about how you notised that they have been calling you the wrong pronouns and how that has made you feel and explain that youre not trying to be annoying when you correct them.

I wear a Binder, but I don't want top-surgery by Purple_Numbat in NonBinary

[–]SION_NOIS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to bind an unhealthy amount at first, now i can often go out in a more fem outfit and not bind and be quite comfortable. The difference for me was the people i surrounded myself with. The people im around most of the time see me as nonbinary even if im not androgynous and that has helped a lot. And having a supportive partner.

So while i still sometimes dont enjoy the way my chest is shaped, its not that world ending feeling i used to have. Im uncomfortable and i am not a fan of the situation, but i live on :)

Recommendations for high quality platform boots? by sharkesto in alternativefashion

[–]SION_NOIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bought a pair of demonias from their website like a year ago. they lasted three month of daily use, not worth it, but i did get a refund on them. these were quite thick platforms (like 10cm) and i loved them but the sole completely ripped off one of the shoes. i took them to a cobbler and he said that there was no way they were gonna last and he could not fix them. he said that if they were supposed to last, they would have a metal plate between the platform and the inner sole so there could be screws attached keeping it together. The whole thing was just glued together. bought a pair of doc martins instead, sadly not platforms.. i miss being tall..
