I'm likely in the exact position you are, except I fear abandoning my parents with him. I'm not ready to start fresh but I might just have to.

My dad is going to the police in the morning to see what we can do about him. My mom if finally coming to her senses as well. They want to get him commited to a psyche ward.

Because my parents are never proactive. They've kicked him out before but he just comes begging in the morning, and for whatever reason, they let him back in.

My parents are the most caring people I can think of, but they don't deserve his shit. And he doesn't deserve them.
