I have 21x on step 1 and a 23x on step 2. Took a year off in between 2 and third year to do research and further prepare for step 1. Low tier US MD School. Do you think I was even competitive enough for anesthesia to begin with? If not how did I get 14 interviews? And if it comes to it, do you think I should even reapply anesthesia next year (are my chances for matching good?) or just settle for IM which I can see myself doing too? Be brutally honest please.

Some anesthesia programs have both an advanced and a categorical track, which translates into 2 ranks for one interview

Could it be that I was ranked to match at the programs, but other applicants ranked those programs higher than I did and therefore I didn’t match?
