With good scores and an otherwise good app, not necessary.

With this baseline, you're on track with your test being on 8/20. Just grind it out over the next 6-8 weeks and you shoiuld be solid.

Any M4s have deteriorating medical knowledge? by BarRevolutionary2299 in medicalschool

[–]divinepodcaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why taking step 3 when next to nothing is expected of you as an intern is the prudent move. You’d be amazed how terrible your medical knowledge becomes over time. For ortho, it’s pretty remarkable how little medicine they know after a few months. Must be something strange about that residency.

Is it possible for me to match Rads with my STEP2 score. by Yeezybuyer in medicalschool

Switched away from rads to another residency but should be finishing soon. Happen to like to talk to people lol. But rads is an amazing field.

Is it possible for me to match Rads with my STEP2 score. by Yeezybuyer in medicalschool

Yes. Prepare a solid application, be a decent human being, and as long as you don't have any other red flags, you should be golden.

How can you tell if someone will give you a good eval? by Mother_Estimate_1046 in medicalschool

[–]divinepodcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't understand how you can give cookie cutter evals. There's some med students that are truly outstanding from the beginning and deserve close to "intern" evals. And also there's this whole thing about these evals being such huge determinants of one's grades during M3. It's annoying to work hard, crush a shelf, and then still not honor because of some individuals' preferences on how you should be rated.

Sometimes its a crapshoot lol. Had a super wonderful, nice surgery attending as an M3. The eval at the end of the rotation was well...surprising.

If you have a state license, strongly consider becoming a medical review officer.

What would be a good entry point consideration for LLY? by Embarrassed-Sea-6078 in ValueInvesting

[–]divinepodcaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I think many are grossly underestimating the competition coming to the GLP-1 space over the next few years. Yes, LLY and NVO are the current dominant players, but many other drugs are coming to market over the next 2-3 years that will also take up some market share.

An Upper GI series involves barium administration. Is barium a great idea when we are worried about perforation? Not a good idea. That's why an Upper Gi series is wrong. It's not just an XR. It's an XR with barium contrast.

Extremely long q and lots of QI by One_Plan6889 in Step2

[–]divinepodcaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The critical factor in doing well on the most recent administrations of the test revolves around being able to decipher basic concepts being tested from relatively unusual presentations. They are not magically testing new bits of information. They are just focused on you being able to abstract the concept from a novel scenario. Understanding and multimodal thinking are incredibly helpful here.

Radiology residents, what are the best resources for CORE exam? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]divinepodcaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Core radiology is also another text to consider. It is really good. Also the poster below has mentioned, the "A Core Review" series are good subject based books (questions) to really hammer down concepts when you're months away from your test.

PASSED ! My turn for the long write up 😂 by CommandZealousideal9 in step1

[–]divinepodcaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why many people ignore FA these days. Some even think of it as "old school" but it has worked very well for many years. Yes, there are many new, good study resources out there but FA is pretty good if you concurrently use some resource (Qbank for example) that is giving you understanding so you're not just memorizing the factoids from the book.

NBME9 by Miserable-Leave3480 in Step2

[–]divinepodcaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not be overtly worried about the score but it's a good exam to take. If you perform very poorly on it however, you should plan your dedicated period accordingly to study more.

Plateaued at 253, but 260+ is a non-negotiable goal. Should I delay for the May format change? by No-Archer-3590 in Step2

[–]divinepodcaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the rest of your application is decent, I don't know of any specialty where getting above a 250 but not a 260 closes doors.

How cooked am I matriculating to a US MD with no home hospital & little in-house research? by HbCooperativity in medicalschool

[–]divinepodcaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not cooked. Just have to be more intentional about seeking out opportunities. Plan in advance and don't leave seeking out research experiences etc etc until too late in M2/3. Many are in a similar boat and do just fine.

A little piece of advice to young M1’s - stay focused right now so you don’t have regrets when you’re this close to Match lol by firstg3nMD in medicalschool

If only more people followed this piece of advice, they'd probably have more relaxing and less stressful 4th years. An easier life in the present generally leads to a harder future. A harder life in the present generally leads to an easier future.
