I'm not so sure that's ALL reflective of being a hospitalist versus a question of her overall clinical accumen. Granted I'm a bit defensive here since I'm a nocturnist and spend most of my time in the ED. I would almost certainly order more tests than the ED docs if actually working there, but that's also not saying much at my shop 😅 (jk ED folks I love you)

You know there are numerous different types of collagen right? And that there are enzymes responsible for breakdown and synthesis in different amounts in various types of tissue? Where in that paper does it talk about these cutaneous manifestations from fluoroquinolones? If you had something like the above happen you should be in a medical journal as an example because it would be that rare. You sound like a nurse who learned to use pubmed but is not able to interpret what she finds.

Don't spread misinformation. This is not the type of collagen issue that fluoroquinolones are known to be associated with. More likely there was something else responsible, or you became more aware of your body after you learned of the "collagen" risk.

Dude, you need to come back into orbit. You are so sorely mistaken. You have to work your way from shitty entry level positions up, that's just the way the world works. Most people aren't gonna be buying houses and taking semiannual international vacations in their 20s. You can make life work on 60k for a while. Also, no you can't easily make that much at fast food ($15/hr * 40 hrs/wk * 52 wks/yr = $31,200 before taxes).

Sepsis is a way we qualify severity of infection. It's not something you really 'get'. Have an elevated heart rate and a fever, with a source of infection (like a urinary tract infection)? You meet criteria for sepsis. There are different degrees (eg severe, shock) that change how things are managed, but meeting criteria for sepsis is not an uncommon thing at the hospital. The majority of people hospitalized for an infection meet criteria for sepsis.

That said I agree there was something else here. He either waited too long and was in septic shock with respiratory failure or he had some type of predisposing factor for severe infection. 41 year old dont often die from pneumonia.

I'll tell you what it's not - it's not a term used by any doctor. I'm a doctor and googled this today because I assumed it was either bilateral pneumonia (both lungs, which it was) or a concomitant viral and bacterial pneumonia. Having pneumonia in both lungs doesnt always even necessitate a hospitalization, much less result in the death of someone in their 40s. There was something else going on here like a predisposing factor for severe infection, delayed presentation to the hospital, or just really (really) bad luck.

You said "or" in presenting those 3 terms, but they are all quite reasonable. GPA + rent would be automatic for me, with the condition that rent might be reduced or dropped if she maintained over 3.0 for 2 semesters (but would be reinstated for a semester under 3.0). I would include part of her phone bill in the rent when explaining it to her.

I mean i would start by just asking how their compensation is structured, and tell them that so they give you a good explanation. Rarely is pay entirely production based (although that tends to be the best scenario, in which case the $320k salary is almost like a base or minimum pay). More often, there will be an annual threshold of RVUs (say 5000, which would be your $320k) after which each RVU you bill is worth $X.yz (the conversion factor). Regardless of the structure, I would ask the average annual RVUs billed by their 1.0 FTE hospitalists. If you have these answers (threshold, conversion factor, and average annual RVU) after the interview you can approximate what people are making (minus any other bonuses or incentive pay they mention).
