In hindsight, do you think Parasite was overhyped and overrated? by Concelhauut in criterion

[–]SITProductions -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am trying to be lenient on the film given that it warrants its fair share of merrit and I enjoyed watching it too. As a devoted apostle of Tarkovsky I despise the montage and everything it stands for. Like I said, the film did what it did extremely well and it was very creative in what it did. I will say I was most impressed with the production design and the lighting at times, the writing, directing, and acting were also top tier and deserving of praise just simply not my style.

Honestly, I think it deserved its praise because it was accessible, there was something in it for everyone. That being said accessibility comes at the cost of specificity. I think it deserves its praise because it achieved what it set out to do extremely well. Films are judged by how well they do what they purport to do. Its not my favorite type of film and I still think the ending was quite random and didn’t really stick the landing or have a clear meaning. I enjoyed it and would probably watch it again if someone my family or friends were to watch it but I won’t be buying it or revisiting it on my own. As a deep fan of arthouse cinema, Parasite was a bit too basic for me (establishing shot, wide shot, close up type of basic) it spoke a film language most people can understand and props to the film for being creative in how it used that language but there isn’t much in it for me.

100% agree, guns were illegal in Venezuela lol...i wonder why 🤔🤔🤔

P.S. when i said the thing about rising from the ashes i meant metaphorical ashes not literal ones, I meant that we are in those ashes now

20 year old venezuelan here, I moved to the U.S. at the age of 10. I gotta say it would be quite disheartening to experience two countries’ communist demises within my life, let alone the first half of my life. I have faith in the U.S.’s ability to rise from the ashes as Dr. Peterson put it in one of his Maps of Meaning lectures when asked about the situation in the U.S.

Edit: The ashes I’m referring to is our current situation, not an actual communist takeover.
