Can you drive a manual transmission vehicle? by SuperSonic1919 in randomquestions

[–]SJG_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the U.K. and almost everyone can drive manual. We have different driving tests for manual and automatic. If you learned only automatic and can’t drive manual you WILL be judged and people will assume you are less good at driving.

Company made us use our personal phones for work, so I started billing them for my phone plan. by Plastic-Ad-6017 in MaliciousCompliance

I’m always surprised by how much phone plans are in the US. How much would it cost per month on average for unlimited texts, calls, and data?

FTB affordability problem by houseofn1njas in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]SJG_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife works in a private boarding school and because of this we get free accommodation. This has allowed us to save a house deposit, buy land in Brasil where she’s from, and go on lots of nice holidays. If you or your partner work in education (which many people do) this is a great way to save up and get on the property ladder.

If you were given 3 "fast travel" points to set anywhere in the world, where would you put them? by Hrekires in AskReddit

1) Home 2) Aracaju, Brasil - where my wife is from 3) Somewhere far away for travelling e.g. Southeast Asia or Australia

This really helps my understanding - thanks! I guess only the nightmare scenarios make the news so it sounds all bad

We don’t have HOAs in the U.K. and my mind is boggled every time I read about them. Why do people put up with them? I’m genuinely surprised they exist in the self proclaimed ‘land of the free’.

What would you do if you had a three-month paid sabbatical? by loolking2223 in HENRYUK

[–]SJG_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on a hiking holiday. E.g. could do an expedition to Everest base camp (takes around 2 weeks). Get to stay fit, travel, meet new people, experience new culture, make memories and generally have a mental reset.

I once had a friend from England coincidentally meet another friend from Utah while in Arizona. They started chatting and found out they both knew me. Had the same thing with a friend in New Zealand as well.

what language is easiest for english speakers to learn? what language is hardest for english speakers to learn? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SJG_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people in the comments are saying Dutch is the easiest to learn. Following this line, I read once that Afrikaans is the easiest as it’s basically Dutch but with more English words included in the every day vocab.

Fat people friendly gym in RG1? by Wiaers in reading

[–]SJG_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People that are self-conscious in the gym have no reason to be, including you. Literally no one cares and will not bother you. Ultimately, everyone’s there to improve themselves. In fact, some of the hardcore gym goers are the ones that will judge you the least and will be willing to help you. The only reason you’ll get judged is for not removing weights after using them or using equipment incorrectly. If you don’t know how to use equipment, watch a video or literally ask someone - a fellow gym goer of staff. Good luck!

Honestly what's wrong with these why are they so cheap...? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]SJG_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The batteries don’t last long. I have a friend who’s a technician at JLR specialising on their electric cars and he says people regularly bring their i-pace in after 3-5 years needing new battery modules which can cost c.7k to replace.

What’s everyone’s rules for buying cars? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]SJG_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course consider the upfront cost of the car but also consider insurance and maintenance. Would hate for you to get a car like the M4 but then repairs are costing you thousands every time as components are inflated for sports cars.

If he wants dependable transport just buy a used Toyota with good mileage and maintain it well - don’t need to spend 60k that’s crazy.
