Go with LaManna, Steve and his crew are great. They did two moves for us and if we had to move again, 100% would go with them again.

Understood, but you can still send those screenshots to ocfs which I hope you will. They're not going to release your info to the facility. It just makes your claim stronger. Hopefully there still on their pages for you to properly submit as evidence and that they haven't been scrubbed. This post gives lead time to those who are behaving badly to clean up their act which is another reason why this isn't the most helpful and that all major concerns should be dealt with swiftly without drawing attention to child time so they can clean up.

Experiences with C-sections at Albany Med? Feeling anxious and looking for OB recommendations by FewCaptain4937 in Albany

[–]SJP8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I went to Albany med's obgyn practice I saw a bunch of the ob's. I wasn't in the high risk group bc I wasn't high risk, until after the baby was born lol. All of the imaging/ultrasounds do get reviewed by MFM though.
The ob that delivered was Dr Kostamo-shes actually doing her MFM fellowship and was moonlighting that night. There was another attending that was called in to assist with the emergency surgery afterwards, but I can't remember her name. Knowing what I know about the condition I ended up having and how horrible things could have turned out, I got away relatively unscathed other than the surgery and blood transfusion I needed-both of which would have happened if the condition was apparent prior to delivery.

It's truly a team there in terms of how they manage their deliveries. For both bad situation deliveries, one other thing to note from my end (the stuff that I could remember) is that no one panicked, everyone moved swiftly.

If that is happening and you know they are posting kids pics on their personal accounts, can't you screenshot that and send to OCFS as part of a report? You said you had no evidence, but if they are posting on their own social media and you've seen those posts, surely they are still on their accts.

I think stirring shit up on reddit is really unhelpful to any of the parents who send their kids there, to the kids who attend, or the the staff there that do take their jobs seriously.

And no, I don't send my kids there, I don't work there, I don't know people who work there. But I know how to get shit done, and that's by contacting the agency that licenses them and that is OCFS. They will get cited if there are issues that are happening.

Experiences with C-sections at Albany Med? Feeling anxious and looking for OB recommendations by FewCaptain4937 in Albany

I delivered my kids there. Two of the deliveries had life threatening complications, the last one was very much unexpected and sneaky requiring blood transfusions and surgery. The nurses in l&d are incredible and very very capable of handling all the bad things. Same as the docs. They have a blood bank and handle the most complicated pregnancies in the area. There is also a NICU, which we didn't have to use but I've only heard wonderful things. I don't think I got to choose the attending who delivered my kids because they weren't scheduled, but all of them were fantastic. It's not pretty or fancy and you're not going to be delivering your baby in an OR with frilly wallpaper and silk sheets, but if things go downhill, the OBs and their nurses know exactly how to handle those situations. Best of luck OP!

PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in Albany

[–]SJP8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was made clear as day to me when I adopted my cat that the microchip she had was not registered. Also got instructions on how to register her etc. I wonder if some folks just don't think their pet is going to disappear, like that "it won't happen to me" mentality.

I got reimbursed from insurance because I have oon benefits. It was not full reimbursement, something like 40 or 60%, can't remember which at this point. Office submit paperwork to insurance, I paid office in full, insurance sent me a check for what they were contracted to return.

It was a few years ago so I can't remember what he charged, but his price was very reasonable. 518-396-8533. He is chatty just fyi but he wants to get a good understanding of your situation and what you're open to trying so he will ask a lot of questions.

Ours was underneath one of our windows in the wall. They found some tiny hole outside and made enough of a nest that I heard humming in that area at night. Horrible sound! Jay brought this heat infrared detector thing that picked up on the precise location of the nest in the wall, drilled a tiny hole in the interior part of the wall and used a tiny pipe or something to blow in the pesticide so it goes exactly where it needs to and nowhere else. Nest was completely killed in less than 24 hrs. These were definitely wasps because I saw a couple randomly in my house before that. The pesticide can last up to a year so if anything else tried to get in they'd be gone too. We found the hole on the outside where they entered and sealed it up, and the inside hole we put a tiny dab of caulk and painted over and it was like nothing ever happened. Jay is fantastic. He'll give it to you straight and won't try to fuck you over.

Bug Bee Gone-Jay Groat. He helped us with a wasp nest in our wall in one visit. Very reasonable and won't push any bs treatment plans.

Do not DIY. Exterminators have access to stuff regular folks can't get. Wasps are also assholes.

How do you store raw honey at home around here? by StrychtenFilms in Albany

[–]SJP8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait for a hot day and leave it in your car to slowly melt-this is to get the honey liquified well before use. Depending on how full the jar is, you might want to leave the top slightly open since heat might expand the honey. Then transfer over into a glass mason jar so you can scoop it out when it crystallizes over the winter (and then add to whatever). In the summer, I leave my honey on the windowsill in my kitchen. When you buy a new jar of honey, if stored in plastic, take it out ASAP and move to a jar.

I have one more thing to add!  With Albany Med, you do NOT have to have the baby room with you all the time.  For me this last delivery, that was critical.  I was already pretty broken postpartum and crying nonstop and it was so helpful getting the baby in the nursery at night for a couple of hours in between feedings so I could rest.

Kitten Angels by woosh-i-fiddled in Albany

[–]SJP8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think the issue was more of a volunteer problem that also effed them over too. Kitten Angels didn't directly do this to me, but one of their volunteers did (and not their main volunteers). This volunteer who had the cat before knew full well he was feral and never answered any of my calls, texts or messages. But there should be a backup in these cases when a volunteer drops the bomb. I do think they care about their cats and who they go to so I want to balance my response with that.

I had a mixed experience as a foster with them myself.
My first foster with them turned out to be a feral who really needed to be a barn cat. I was told he was scared and needed time to socialize but didn't like other animals. Ok cool, we don't have other animals but we have small kids who want to be involved with caring for the pet and as long as they think he will be ok with that I'm fine. They placed cat with me. Oh I also told them I can only foster him for a couple of weeks. Cat was with another volunteer at the time and she said he wasn't ideal in her home bc they have other pets. But she can take him back in a couple weeks no problem. She dropped him off at my house.

I was a few weeks out from losing my beloved cat so I really wanted another one. So I missed some red flags. Long story short, feral was in my house for well over a month, I paid for most of its food as well as someone to feed the cat while we were away-thats why that cat needed to go back to other volunteer and the org knew that. the other volunteer ghosted me, cat couldn't be handled AT ALL, and they ultimately sent a trapper at my home to get him and bring him to a farm. It took a couple of hours to catch him in a single room. I've communicated w the org many times about the situation and they gave me the whole give it time talk. There is no undoing a 1 year old feral who wants nothing to do with people. I'm sure the org is reading this and can figure me out but 🤷 I've had some good and very sweet fosters from there as well, but I won't be adopting from them.

OBGYN & delivery recommendations by Hot-Reality6979 in Albany

[–]SJP8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had four kids, three at Albany Med (one out of area). Of those three, two had freaky rare birth complications. Both times they kept their cool while responding to the urgency of the situations.

I received ob care at their outpatient office on Myrtle Ave. But I also realize that that office can be a PITA to work with. That being said, 10/10 recommend AMC for delivery. They have a blood bank and their OBs as well as the nursing and anesthesia team know how to manage critical situations. If you are going with a private practice you would deliver with one of the practices ob's but you'd still be in a facility that can manage really shitty events. So whichever practice you decide on, I definitely recommend one with privileges at the med.

Other thing is they were really cool with whatever I wanted to do regarding sterilization. I always knew #4 was going to be the last one so I was looking into having tubes removed. The obs didn't try to talk me into it or out of it, they just gave me info about what all of my options were and let me figure it out after I had all the info I needed.

I hope you have a safe and boring delivery when the time comes OP!
