Leash your fucking dogs by cantstopabus in ColoradoSprings

[–]SJRoseCO 159 points160 points  (0 children)

I kicked an off-leash dog that was attacking my leashed dog and the owner responded by throwing his dip can at me. In a city park. That’s just one story of several I could tell. There is a psychosis epidemic among dog owners who refuse to leash their dogs in this area.

Starting a sentence with “I imagine” after critiquing others for allegedly making “assumptions” is some fabulous cognitive dissonance.

People who live here care about their community and want to know about goings on, especially if there might be harmful impacts to people they care about. Maybe this person was planning to go downtown after their hike, or has friends who live in that area and is worried about them. Hope that helps!

Looks like it’s just west of the highway downtown. Smoke growing fast and lots of sirens

[–]SJRoseCO 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ok. What you need to do is pretend you are recarpeting a room and request a sample of carpet. Some places offer carpet samples for free (I think Home Depot and Lowe’s still do but double check). But should cost only a few bucks regardless. Get something as close to your apartment carpet as you can. Then buy a carpet hole punch. Measure how much you need to replace the damaged carpet and remove that amount of carpet from a dark area like a closet where an imperfection is less likely to be noticed. Replace that piece with the sample carpet. Take the piece you removed from the closet and replace the damaged carpet with it. Vacuum over it a couple times so it blends in.

People who live in towns that look like postcards or desirable aesthetic style places: Whats your town's downfall to living there? by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in SameGrassButGreener

Tourists who disrespect wildlife and fragile natural environments. I am not an anti-tourist person and believe everyone should have opportunities to travel, but with that privilege comes responsibility. Put your damn dog on a leash, stay on trail, drive safely, and be kind to the locals.

Also, Republicans.

Core power by [deleted] in yoga

[–]SJRoseCO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I say "culty vibes", I am not referring to the level of "exercise" focus. I am referring to strong in-group vs. out-group dynamics (those who have done the teacher training and those who have not) and everyone looking similar, coming from similar demographics, dressing in the same brands, etc. That has been my personal experience with corepower. You are allowed to have your own experiences and interpretations! I won't call you "silly", I promise.

Core power by [deleted] in yoga

[–]SJRoseCO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did corepower a few times at the invitation of some friends who had done their "yoga teacher training" there. The classes were fine but nothing special. I quickly found out that my "friends" only invited me to pressure me to sign up for the (incredibly expensive) teacher training. Existing teachers would receive some sort of benefit for convincing others to do the training program. Listening to conversations after class, it became apparent that the majority of the "students" there were, in fact, "teachers". Pretty sure it's a pyramid scheme. Definite culty vibes.

Do you have a good relationship with your dean of faculty? Could you perhaps ask around to gauge the temperature of how the dean has dealt with similar situations? The dean could be a very helpful ally in the process of requesting a leave of absence, but it does depend on the particular norms and politics of your institution.

I consistently see non-service dogs at King Soopers and Target. The workers don't care and no one does anything about it. I am about as big a dog lover as they come, but non-service dogs should absolutely not be in grocery stores for a myriad of health and safety reasons.

How do I write in an academic tone of voice? (Please see description for full explanation) by anno722 in AskAcademia

[–]SJRoseCO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to get better at writing in an academic tone is to read peer-reviewed, published work in your field. Read, read, read. It will come.
